La Petite Brossardiere is a newly renovated 3 bedroom gite that is attached to the owners farmhouse. Set in 14 acres of protected farmland which is mostly meadow with abundant wild flowers and grasses often visited by deer, hares and the occasional red squirrel. There are also many bird species that can be seen on the land as there is a large variety of habitat. There are wetland areas with small streams which provide habitat for water birds, ducks and frogs.
We have our own free range chickens and 2 friendly goats called Pixie and Dixie!

We have recently added a heated 'swim spa'. This allows our guests to either chill out using the massage jets in the relaxing end of the spa, or enjoy anything from a gentle swim to a full on swim workout. The spa has 4 adjustable jets that provide a flow of water, a bit like a river, which allows you to swim at your own pace against this flow. The jets are adjusted to allow for a swim that suits you. Alternatively you could just splash about with the kids! Because the swim spa is heated it can be enjoyed at any time of the year!
If swimming isn't your thing we have also recently added a hot tub with 56 massage jets! The hot tub is situated next to the swim spa so you can relax and enjoy a massage in the hot tub while the kids splash about in the swim spa!

My name is Nicola and I am a retired university lecturer. I moved to France with my partner Steve after finally finishing the extensive renovation of our beautiful Charente farmhouse.
|Year property purchased||2000|
|Why this location?||We love the countryside and the peace and quiet of rural France. This area has a very good climate, it is the second sunniest region in France! For us it was important that we had plenty of space around us to enjoy with our dogs, we always wanted to keep more animals and we have made a start with some free range chickens. We also enjoy cycling and walking which the area is perfect for.|
|Unique benefits of property||The house is a typical Charente Farm House and is set in 14 acres of our own protected land.|
This is a fabulous swimming lake with a sandy beach just 9 km away from us. It has a restaurant/bar on-site. There are paddle boats to hire as well as a children's play area, tennis courts, picnic tables and a diving platform. A great day out for the family.
Myself, my husband and our 2 older children (21 and 17), stayed at La Petite Brossardiere for 11 days in July. We had a lovely time, in peaceful and beautiful surroundings. The hosts, Nicola and Steve, (and their 3 very cute dogs) were very welcoming and friendly, helpful and happy to chat but not intrusive, which we appreciated. They took us on a tour of the gite, upon arrival, and explained how things work. The gite was lovely - clean, comfortable, well equipped, with 3 spacious bedrooms, especially the beautiful master. There was an ensuite upstairs and a shower room with a separate WC downstairs, which is always helpful. The only drawback was the small kitchen, as we like to cook a lot on holiday, but it was well equipped although lacking in preparation/worktop/storage space. We made it work for us and also did some BBQ-ing outside on the sun terrace, which was equipped with BBQ, table, chairs, lounging chairs and a hot tub!
There was working wi-fi, for the young adults, a large garden to play badminton in, meadows and orchards to explore, our own fishing lake with picnic table and chairs, a trampoline and an overground pool which was great in the sweltering heat of week 2, when temps reached late 30's!.
We took some trips to lovely La Rochelle, on the coast, the local ancient town of Parthenay and the beautiful town of Thouars, went kayaking on the local river and swimming in a local lake.
I would highly recommend the gite and hope to make a return visit soon.
Thank you very much for your lovely review, Poppy is missing her hugs and cuddles! You are welcome back any time. Thank you also for leaving the gite so clean and tidy, it was much appreciated. Nicola & Steve
