About this property

Peace, Tranquility in the Heart of Rural France. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

The property is a traditional charentaise farmhouse set on the brow of a hill. The house faces south with views of the countryside and the church in Etusson. The microclimate of the area means that we get the benefit of lots of sunshine. The farmhouse is the Owner's accommodation and the rest of the house has been converted into 2 modern, comfortable gites which have been designed to retain some of the traditional features of the house as well as providing everything you need to have an enjoyable stay. The house overlooks 2 acres of gardens which include a pond and stream as well as many fruit trees. With quality at the heart of everything we do, the gites are equipped with all you need. Elf and Lisa want you to enjoy your stay and are on hand to assist with any queries you may have and help you to settle in.

We are only a short drive from larger towns including Bressuire, Vihiers, Mauléon and Thouars. There are also many tourist attractions within easy reach: we are only 40 mins from the Puy du Fou - an historic theme park with lavish theatrical extravaganzas, 20 mins from France's largest Oriental garden and only a few minutes from Chateau and wine tasting.

Argentonnay, previously known as Argenton les Valles is a small but quaint village which has all the basics that you would need for your stay. Why not try some fresh bread or patisseries from the Artisan boulangerie or have a nice meal at the Restaurant du Lac. During the summer season, you can try your hand at kayaking or canoeing on the River Argenton, enjoy the open air swimming pool or visit the Chateau.

Nueil Les Aubiers is a village due east of Etusson and has some larger shops including an Intermarche.

Thouars is under 30km to the west of Etusson and has a thriving market that takes place every Friday morning.

Bressuire is under 25km to the south of Etusson and has a market on Tuesday and Saturday morning. It also has some much larger shops including supermarkets, clothes shops and a beautiful chateau.

Vihiers is to the north of Etusson at around 16km and has a lovely town centre with a chocolate shop and brasserie.

The large town of Cholet is less than an hours drive away to the north west and is approximately 35km. Here you will find everything you could ever want from shops, retail outlets and hypermarket.

Etusson is a great location as you are always within an hour of a wide variety of attractions that will suit people of all ages and interests.

A short 10 minute drive will take you to one of the few Alpaca breeding farms in France. The team at Argenton Alpacas will take you on a tour of the farm and introduce you to the herd.

At just over 40 minutes drive you can reach the famous Puy du Fou theme park. Famous for its theatrical displays and themed areas, this is one of France’s top tourist attractions.

The wonderful Bioparc is only 30 minute's drive away and is a must see attraction for any animal lover. Get up close to a wide variety of animals who have the freedom to roam in large enclosures. There is always something new to see.

Parc de la Vallee is just under 20 minutes drive and is a great place for families and ideal for those wanting to let the kids play. With a variety of attractions, water rides and activities, this is a perfect day out.

Within 25 minutes, you can be in Maulévrier which is the location for one of Europe’s best oriental gardens. Sitting next to Château Colbert (which is also well worth a visit), this oriental themed garden is a wonderful visit at any time of the year.

Etusson is located within the northern Poitou Charentes region. This area of France sits within a micro climate with it being one of the most sunny regions in France. As such, it is excellent for growing grapes and the region produces excellent wine from deep bodied reds, sweet rosé and fresh whites. There are more caves and vine yards than we can possibly list, all of which are always happy to provide a tour of the vineyards and of course provide a tasting of the wines they produce.
