Les Hirondelles is a beautifully restored Maison de Maître in the quiet hamlet of Villemain in the Deux Sevres region of Western France. Sitting in the midst of the French countryside Les Hirondelles private pool and outdoor dining area are the perfect place for spending tranquil days relaxing and enjoying the weather. There is a bread van which services the hamlet most days to get those all important fresh baguettes. Listen out for its claxon! Paul Georgelet, the award-winning goats cheese producer, is also based in the hamlet and you can buy some of his delicious cheeses, including the Le Mothais Sur Feuille, to go on your bread direct from the farm. The larger commune of Chef Boutonne is a short drive away with 3 supermarkets, restaurants, patisseries and boulangeries.
This spacious property comfortably sleeps 8 people in its 3 bedrooms. It has been renovated to a high standard whilst retaining its rustic charm. Wi-fi is available throughout the property. The main bedroom has a super-king size bed and en suite shower room. The second bedroom has a king size bed and the third bedroom has 2 double size beds that share a family bathroom. This arrangement makes the house ideal for families, also offering extra accommodation for friends and other family members.
The main entrance to the house faces the large private terrace and pool area which has high quality security fencing. The pool benefits from a shallow end, perfect for younger children and a deep end for the keen diver. Beyond nightly covering to retain the heat, the pool is self-regulating and professionally maintained so you can jump right in. Adjacent to the pool is a bbq area furnished with tables and chairs for al fresco dining where you can enjoy your croissants for breakfast or dinner with a glass of wine. There is also a covered area for those hot summer days when/if you prefer to dine in the shade. To the side of the property is a large meadow area. There are pretty views out to the countryside.
The immediate surrounding countryside is relatively flat with hectares off fields and woodland. Quiet lanes make for pleasant walking and cycling. There are many areas of interest to explore within an hour away.
Opposite the sitting room is the large farmhouse kitchen featuring a 6-ring gas top range with hood, electric oven and grill. There are granite worktops and a large central island allowing plenty space to prepare meals. There is a dining area as well if you prefer to dine indoors. The well-equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, coffee-maker and toaster. In the adjoining utility room there is a washing machine and clothes airer available as well as a microwave, vacuum cleaner and iron. Here you’ll also find a spare gas bottle for the gas range and electric heaters if you need them.
The sitting room with wooden floor and large windows has English tv and dvd player. There are several dvds for you to choose from when relaxing of an evening in this comfortable space. There is a wood burner in the room, however, due to the temperatures in the area you are unlikely to need to use it!
Up the child friendly staircase all the bedrooms have wooden flooring and overlook the pool area with views out to the open countryside. The rooms are painted white giving a light and fresh feel. The master bedroom features a super-king size bed, large wardrobe and chest of drawers. There is a feature fireplace with an armchair alongside where you can relax of an evening with a good book. There is an en suite shower room with wash basin and wc. The second bedroom has a king size bed with plenty wardrobe space and a chest of drawers. The third bedroom has 2 double size beds, good size wardrobe and chest of drawers as well. This room also has a feature fireplace. A highchair and cot are available for babies, as well as stair gates for the bottom and top of the stairs for extra security.
The family bathroom has a free-standing bath, separate shower cubicle, wash basin, wc and bidet.
As noted above, the master bedroom has an en suite shower room.
There is a separate wc downstairs.
Heating is provided by electric heaters which are stored in the utility room.
There is English tv available and a dvd player with a selection of dvd's to choose from.
A bbq is provided with a bag of charcoal. Also, there is a dining table and chairs for 8 people. There are 6 poolside steamer chairs for relaxing around the pool. There is swing ball available as well as inflatables for using in the pool. There is a washing line with pegs available too. The property and pool are fully secured and suitable for children and pets.
There is off road parking for 2 cars outside the gates to the property.
The property is set over 2 floors and is therefore not suitable for wheelchair users.
Well behaved pets are allowed.
Children are very welcome and a cot and highchair and stair gates are provided.

In Chef Boutonne Chateau de Javarzay is home to the Headdress Museum which has a remarkable collection of nearly 400 antique headdresses and hats from multiple French regions. It also has a permanent exhibition devoted to the life and work of a native son Jean-François Cail, a great industrialist of the XIXth century. A park surrounds the chateau where you can take walks around the fishing pond. There is a weekly market in town as well to pick up your fresh produce.
Zoodyssee about 30 mins drive away is an ecological animal park of 25 hectares in the forest of Chize. It is home to around 500 European animals and over 60 different species. In a natural environment of forests and prairies full of trees. You can follow two trails to discover Poitou donkeys, ibexes, mouflons, European bison, red deer, roe deer, fallow deer, owls, lynxes, wolves, foxes, otters, storks and birds of prey, to name but a few!
About an hour away is Futuroscope, a moving image theme park in Poitiers, a French theme park based upon multimedia, cinematographic and audio-visual techniques. It has several 3D cinemas and a few 4D cinemas along with other attractions and shows, some of which are the only examples in the world.
La Venise Vert - discover the Green Venice in a traditional boat! Relaxation and change of scenery guaranteed! Come to appreciate the calm, the tranquillity as well as the authenticity of the landscape, the richness of its flora, the magic of the "fire on the water". Well seated on a bench, the traditional boat called "flat" invites you to commune with this ocean of greenery. A guide-boat guide leads you, with the help of a pigouille, in this maze of canals while telling you the history of the marsh.
Tusson, a short drive away, is a typical Charentais village, originally developed in early medieval times around the abbey that once stood there. You can admire houses from the renaissance period, including that which belonged to Marguerite d'Angouleme which now houses the Maison du Patrimoine in Tusson, a small museum dedicated to local heritage. The 'Monastic Garden of Tusson', created by a local group of is officially listed as one of France's 'remarkable gardens', the garden features four separate garden areas dedicated to vegetables, medicinal plants, fruits and ornamental plants.
Ruffec is situated on the Lien River in the quiet countryside west of Villemain. The highlight in Ruffec is the Church of Saint-André, a little lower down the hill from the main square. Built in the roman style the church dates from the 12th century and once belonged to the abbey at nearby Nanteuil-en-Vallee, although substantial alterations and additions were made in the 15th century following a fire that destroyed all but the facade. The beautiful stained glass windows are an addition by Vivian Oël, a student of Salvador Dali.
Verteuil-sur-Charente a bit further afield is a village situated on the banks of the river Charente, in the quiet countryside to the north of Angouleme in the Poitou-Charentes region. It is on the pilgrimage route that leads from Tours to Santiago de Compostelle. Dominated by the castle that stands above the picturesque river banks, Verteuil is a pretty place to explore with several interesting highlights to discover.
La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast is around an hour and a half away. It has been a centre of fishing and commerce since the 12th century, a maritime tradition that is reflected in its Old Port and its huge ultramodern marina: Les Minimes. The old town is home to half-timbered medieval houses and Renaissance architecture, with its 17th-century arcaded streets.
