Thornybrush is a lovely 4 bedroom gite with an open dining room/living room/kitchen on the ground floor with all necessary amenities as well as a master double bedroom with direct access to the terrace and an en suite wc and shower room.
On the 2nd floor you will find 3 further bedrooms (1 double and 2 twin rooms) as well as a bathroom with shower and bath and a separate wc.
In the large grounds is a beautiful, secure, shared swimming pool (10 x 5m), barn with games, table tennis, and plenty of space for ball/racquet sports or just relaxing.
Relaxed owners live privately on site but are always available if needed. We welcome every group with a hamper of essentials to help you move in and start relaxing straight away instead of running off to the supermarket. Hamper contents comprises of:- olive oil, herbs, salt & pepper, Nespresso pods, tea bags, sugar cubes, dishwasher tablets and some liquid refreshment as well as flowers from our garden - depending upon the season.
A large kitchen/diner/lounge covers most of the ground floor of our gite with a table that seats 8. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooker, dishwasher, pots, pans, crockery, nespresso machine, toaster, microwave ... practically anything you could ever need. It really is a 'home from home'.
If there's anything you particularly need to cook that perfect French dinner then contact me to check. In all likelihood we've got it.
The living room has an informal sitting area that's plenty big enough for everybody with UK tv, books, games etc. Double frenchdoors lead out onto the shaded, gravel terrace with dining table, seating area, parasol and bbq.
On the ground floor is the en suite, master bedroom with a double bed. A door leads out onto the gravel terrace. The en suite bathroom has a walk-in shower, sink and wc.
On the first floor you will find 3 further bedrooms:-
1 Large double bedroom with East facing windows looking out over the countryside.
2 Nicely decorated twin rooms with double glazed windows looking out over the garden towards the swimming pool.
Apart from the en suite bathroom on the ground floor there is a separate wc on the first floor with handbasin and a family bathroom with shower cubicle, washbasin and bath. The bath is equipped with a mixer tap and flexible shower head.
A velux window in the roof gives it an airy feel.
Electric heating is installed all over the gite with thermostat controls.
UK tv channels are available to watch in the lounge area.
A selection of games, books, local leaflets are available for those rare, rainy days.
The gardens at the property cover almost 2 acres and there is more than enough space to play ball games or pretty much anything you want.
A beautiful 10 x 5 metre shared swimming pool is positioned behind established trees and bushes in front of the gites. The pool isn't heated but the temperature has fluctuated during the summer between 24 and 32 degrees which is very comfortable. Loungers and parasol surround the pool. The pool is equipped with a perimeter safety fence that complies with regulations and stops unplanned access by small children.
The unused barn sits just across from the pool and houses all sorts of outdoor games and 2 table tennis tables. At the end of the garden is a flat, sunny area with a badminton net and all necessary equipment to hold the annual family badminton tournament.
Please note that the pool is only available from May 1st to September 30th.
There is plentiful space for parking on the property.
Active families looking for a calm stay with plenty of things to do and see in the region will love our gites. The gites are perfect for young or old families and have enough space both inside and outside for when you don't want to be tripping over each other.
The large master ensuite bedroom on the ground floor (whilst not officially 'accessible' for disabled guests) has a walk-in shower, level access to the living area, full width doors and level access to the shaded dining/seating terrace. The stairs to the 1st floor are equipped with a stair gate at the top.

I moved to Val du Mignon near Surgeres, Niort and La Rochelle in the summer of 2019 with my husband, 2 sons and our little dog. Now that our sons are both heading off to University in the UK I decided to selectively rent out the 2 gites that are connected to our house in order to let new and confirmed Francophiles enjoy the life in Deux-Sevres.
|Year property purchased||2019|
|Why this location?||In 2015 I fell in love with La Rochelle and the Charente coast. A thorough house hunt turned up our beautiful new home and we moved in summer 2019. The house is so well located in easy reach of interesting towns and activities whilst allowing for a slower, quieter pace of life after living in the Parisian suburbs for almost 5 years.|
|Unique benefits of property||The previous owners of our house and gites did a lovely job of renovating and updating the property. On buying the house we also acquired an existing booking for the summer so, after moving in only 5 weeks before, we welcomed a lovely family from Birmingham who had booked with the previous owners. To say we were nervous is an understatement as we felt very responsible for their holiday that they had booked 8 months previously. As it was it all went very well and I realised what a rewarding experience it could be to welcome people to one of our 2 gites during their holidays at any time of year.|
Our 2 gites are to be found 3 kms from the delightful, little town of Mauzé sur le Mignon and also within very easy driving distance of Surgeres and Niort. An easy, flat bike ride into Mauzé brings you to a couple of restaurants, an Intermarché, a Lidl, Post Office, tabac and a couple of boulangeries where the friendly locals will serve you with a genuine smile.
Further afield is the town of Surgeres with its medieval ramparts, lively twice-weekly market and loads of bars/restaurants as well as out-of-town shopping. To the North East you can reach the bustling market town of Niort in less than half an hour with its chateau, cinema, shops and bistro culture.
For lovers of the seaside drive 30-40 minutes West and you will reach the Charente Maritime coast where you can visit La Rochelle, Rochefort, Il de Ré and the Ile d'Oleron as well as many others. Our particular favourite is the seaside town of Chatelaillon Plage with its relaxed, seaside chic, casino and beach bars.
