Le Peux is a comfortable, simple, rustic, well equipped village house situated in a hamlet at the top of a hill, 2 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from the Gartempe River and popular riverside restaurant. Inside there is a kitchen/living room (freesat Sky tv and dvd player) with open fireplace and beams, 1 double and 1 twin bedroom with additional double sofabed, family bathroom (bath with overhead shower) and additional wc and laundry room. Outside there is a beautiful large enclosed garden with fruit trees, a wonderful willow tree and covered terrace with built-in bbq. The large above ground pool sits at the end of the garden enjoying the warm sunshine throughout the day, with views down the valley. There is a small river-beach 2 minutes away with a picnic area where you can paddle and swim in the shallow Gartempe River. The house is semi-detached but next door is empty (the owner using only for storage). The house is ideal for families with the Ferme Pedagogique surrounding the hamlet, with its well looked after donkeys, pigs, horses, goats and sheep, able to visit at any time of the day (free to roam - no charges).
You'll never be bored here! The area has a wealth of activities for all including walking (many marked trails), kayaking, cycling, fishing and horse riding literally on the doorstep and the hamlet itself has its own educational farm (free to enter). The ferme has marked trails which takes you around the hamlet, the valley and the animals - one of the paths passes the fence at the bottom of the garden. The local CPA has also opened a 'Go-Ape' style activity in the valley behind the house (5 minutes walk away). In addition there is a wealth of day-out opportunities from animal parks to the famous Futuroscope theme park (less than an hour away). The famous Oradour-sur-Glane is also nearby.
We are also able to arrange bike hire for individuals or families with delivery and collection directly to and from the house. The house is 5 minutes by car from Lathus St Remy.
Well equipped corner kitchen with oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and fridge-freezer. Separate dining area with table and chairs adjacent to the kitchen.
Open plan lounge/diner with satellite (English Sky freesat) tv and French Digital tv, dvd player and cd player. Two comfortable sofas allow space and comfort for all guests. Open fireplace.
The property has 2 upstairs bedrooms, 1 large twin (which also has a double sofabed) and a comfortable double. Both rooms have wardrobe/storage space.
Family bathroom (small bath with overhead shower) and additional downstairs (outside) wc and laundry room.
Heating in the house is by open fire. It is not really suitable for out-of-season stays.
Freesat Sky satellite tv (a few extra channels available with your own card - some Freeview French channels also available), dvd player and cd player. Selection of boardgames, books and large library of dvds.
Outside there is a large enclosed garden with fruit trees, a wonderful willow tree and covered terrace with built-in bbq. The large above ground pool sits at the end of the garden, well away from the house, enjoying the warm sunshine throughout the day, with views down the valley. The pool is available as early as weather permits and is available until the end of September. The garden is enclosed by smaller fencing and shrubs at the pool end and one side of the house, and taller trees/hedges on the other sides.
Off road parking alongside the house. For larger vehicles, there is a car park at the entrance to the hamlet (100 yards or so away).
Ideal for families. Younger children will enjoy visiting the animals on the farm which surrounds the village.
There is a small river beach minutes away with a picnic area where you can paddle and swim in the shallow Gartempe River. There is a larger swimming pool at Bellac which has water slides for the adventurous.
Thought to be the best theme park in France - less than an hour from the gite.
Wonderful for the children - park containing different species of apes in a natural environment.
Cycle along an old railway line - not for the faint hearted but loads of fun!
Also in Chauvigny- spectacular setting for birds of prey displays.
La Voulzie - our local restaurant 10 minute walk from the house, by the river.
Don't forget the local markets including the huge one at Les Herolles on the 29th of each month.
Beautiful town straddling the Gartempe river. Lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. There's even an English tearoom! Famous for the Cite de l'Ecrit (books and writing) and the Macaroon museum.
We are able to arrange cycle hire for families or individuals (including tandems!) through our friends at Bike Hire Direct in the Vienne. They will deliver to and collect from the house at a time to suit.
A truly humbling experience - the village that has been left untouched since atrocities during the Second World War.
Indoor centre full of crocodiles - feeding time very interesting!
Where the Gartempe is not so safe and shallow and still only minutes from the house. For the brave!
An endless list! See the Vienne tourism website or our website.
Named one of most beautiful villages in France with a 3-flower rating, Angles sur l'Anglin is the home of rare prehistoric sculptures dating back to Magdalenian times. Wander through the old streets, explore the remains of the fortress or visit the Jour d' Angles workshop where they produce drawn thread work on silk, linen or cotton to make table linen, scarves etc.
The CPA sits alongside the River Gartempe and within our hamlet. They offer Kayaking/Canoe, Horse Riding (in Lathus), Disc-Golf (in the hamlet, starting behind the house) and a Go-Ape style activity.
Lovely gite in tranquil surroundings with its own pool and space to relax.
Plenty of countryside to explore and possible to walk to the local restaurant.
Not too far to nearest shops and loads of attractions to visit.
Owners and local manager very helpful. Overall great value.
Very comfortable gite with secluded garden & above ground pool set in rural location. Lots of nearby walks with lovely restaurant by river only 15 mins on foot. Supermarkets etc, easy drive - coast 2.5 hours away but worth a day out.
Educational farm opposite with all sorts of rural activities for able/less-able kids (all nationalities) - pigs, chickens, donkeys, horses, archery etc. Good fun.
Phone signal good but no WiFi so great if you want to get away from the internet!
Good outside space with bbq - great for couples or families.
