The pretty village of Angles sur l’Anglin is just 2km from La Métairie d’Auge. The village dates back to medieval times and has its own ruined château perched high on a cliff overlooking the river Anglin. Centre for cottage industry of "jours d'Angles" lace. Roc au Sorcieres- pre-historic caves.
Canoeing on the local rivers is great fun. Choose from hiring by the hour on the river Gartempe at La Bussiere (10km) or half/ full day hire on the rivers Gartempe or Anglin.
Chauvigny has a busy and lively weekly market. The velo-rail offers an exciting way to experience the countryside and is great fun for all the family. Les Geants du Ciel is a spectacular collection of birds of prey, housed in the château, where flying displays are held daily. There are lots of good restaurants in the medieval town (La Belle Epoque) and in the lower town.
A theme park dedicated to moving images. The fantastic futuristic buildings each house a different attraction. The park also has gardens and playgrounds. Each evening in the summer (and at weekends in the winter) there is a magnificent firework and laser display
The gite was perfect for a family of 4. It also had wifi which was great for our 2 teenagers, Lovely surroundings in the countryside with a 25 min walk to the nearest village which had a few bars and restaurants, and of course somewhere to buy bread.
The gite was comfortable and the friendly and helpful owner Nich and Jools had thought of everything you could need or want. All mod cons in the kitchen. Lots of hot water for showering and baths.
We did a few excursions to the lake, hired canoes and drove into Poitiers. All really worthwhile.
Pool area was kept well with 4 sun beds and the pool cleaned daily. We gave it a lot of use which was really good fun. Very safe pool area as through a locked gate which small children could not enter without an adult. Also plenty of garden space for ball games.
All in all a fabulous little gite which gave us a relaxing and enjoyable break. We rarely go to the same place twice as there are so many places to see and stay but would consider going back. Definitely would recommend . The owners also hire out bikes which we were going to do but didn't as we had very very hot weather for most of the week. Too hot for cycling!
What a fantastic find! Nich and Julie made everything so easy, from quick and friendly responses to emails to having our shopping ready on arrival. Also very welcome were all the lovely home grown vegetables and fresh eggs. The cottage was immaculate, extremely well equipped and comfortable, every little detail such as plenty of towels and filters for the coffee machine were thought of. Nich and Julie were the perfect hosts, not at all intrusive but there for anything we needed. We all truly enjoyed our time at La Petite Ecurie but having the beautifully clean and well maintained pool was the icing on the cake! Another big thanks Nich and Julie and best wishes, Rob, Debbie, Edie and Henry
Our 7th visit to La Petite Ecurie and as wonderful as ever.
Cannot fault anything and Nich and Julie are wonderful hosts.
Would recommend a visit to Les Geants du Ciel at Chauvigny and Riveau chateau is not to be missed.
Thanks Jean and Eric. Same time next year?
La Petite Ecurie was far better than advertised. From booking the gite to getting there it was all so easy. The owners, Nich and Julia, could not have been more helpful. Quick response to email enquiries, easy payment and VERY fast return of security deposit at the end of the stay.
We arrived to a welcome box of Julia's home grown tomatoes, courgettes and peppers. A box of six eggs from their chickens and also ice cold beer in the 'fridge. Gite was spotless and very well equipped. Two bathrooms (one with shower the other a big bath) with loads of towels. There was a constant supply of hot water and unlike other gites we have stayed in the plumbing worked. The beds were made up and turned out to be very comfortable with proper pillows. Well equipped kitchen (gas cooker, dish washer, washing machine, microwave). Comfortable chairs and settee, flat screen telly and a dvd player. Loads of books for all ages and a very useful guide to local shops, markets, Drs, dentists etc. Also comprehensive guides to using the equipment in the gite. Great swimming pool with sun loungers and parasol. BBQ area at the front of the gite with more sun loungers and table and chairs.
The property was completly fenced so no worries about our dog running off. If you have younger children there are swings, a slide and a play house.
The gite has very fast free wifi connection.
So very quiet and peaceful, just 10 days of relaxation. No hesitation in recommending La Petite Ecurie.
Thanks Geoff for your kind comments. Lovely to meet you all. Max is missing playing tug with Greg. See you in the new year. Thank you for leaving everywhere so clean and tidy. Nich and Julie
