Hi, we are Nicky and Ken, we are originally from North East England and have followed our dream and moved full time to France. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors into our converted Barn/Gite and ensuring you have a fantastic break in a superb property which was lovingly restored by previous owners with great reviews.

|Why this location?||After visiting France for a number of years searching for our ideal property we fell in love with the area and both the main house and Barn which was the only property we viewed in which we would be proud to invite guests and visitors.
The village offers many day to day amenities and there are towns close by that offer all you could ask for including weekly markets, bars/restaurants, supermarkets and lots of history.
An ideal base for whatever your choice of holiday, relaxation, sun, fishing, sightseeing, walking, cycling ..... the list is endless.
|Unique benefits of property||The property was converted in 2013 from a Barn which housed in its history, cows, chickens and the local wainwright. We have cheated big style and taken over the property after the previous owners, who owned the property over 15 years, have lovingly converted it into the tasteful, fully equipped property it is now. It has direct access to the river providing great fishing, a sunny terrace and al fresco dining. The Barn has two en suite bedrooms, is spacious and offers a high standard of decoration making your stay as enjoyable as possible.
As hosts we are there to welcome you on arrival, a welcome pack containing a number of essentials and a few luxuries is provided and we will be on hand in the property next door for any advice required.
Vallee des Singes (Monkeys), Planete des Crocodiles, Parc de la Haute Touche great days out for all the family.
Just 1 hour away at Poitiers a unique experience in technology with breathtaking shows and spectacular rides. Evening fireworks and laser display
Just 15 minutes away with the Cite de l'Ecrit in the old town dedicated to shops selling books, both antique and new and writing materials. Discover many of the listed buildings or enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants or cafes. Market on Wednesday.
The abbey at St Savin is a Unesco World Heritage Site with a unique collection of 12th century frescoes.
Lathus- Saint - Rémy offers adventure water sports including rafting and kayaking for all ages and abilities. Situated just 20km from us and a great day out.
The Saturday morning market at Chauvigny (40km) offers the chance to visit a lovely town and browse the fresh fruit, veg , meat and fish stalls together with live poultry, plants and the usual market stalls. In summer months there is also an impressive bird of prey, Les Géants du Ciel, display above the castle ruins in the medieval part of town.
If you are lucky enough to be with us on the 29th of the month , closer to us at 7 km, there is the large market of Les Herolles. The market takes over the small village once a month and is quite an experience.
We had a wonderful week in June at the Riverside Barn which exceeded our expectations in setting and comfort. It is equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday, plenty of seating outside where you can relax watching the river go by, and comfortable sofas inside should the heat be too much for you. There is also everything you need from a practical level, with a well equipped kitchen and laundry room. There is a delightful quirky option to the barn, with the sloping floors upstairs, something to be wary of if you are not steady on your feet, but it didn't cause us a problem. Nicky and Ken are delightful hosts, there when you need them and always happy to help and advise. The village itself has several shops and restaurants all of which seem to have their own opening times. The main shop next to the barn is well equipped and perfect for when you first arrive. We never managed to catch any of the restaurants open but there are plenty of places to eat in the surrounding area which we loved exploring.
All in all a wonderful retreat which we hope to return to one day.
Thank you so much for your lovely review of your stay at the Riverside Barn. We enjoyed meeting you both and you certainly have an adventurous life on two wheels!
France does have its own unique opening hours, something we are still discovering, but the lifestyle and surroundings absolutely outweighs the long lunch breaks the shops take ( I think I could quite get used to it ;) )
So pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and we would love to welcome you back anytime.
Best Wishes and Happy Travels
Nicky, Ken and Zephyr
Riverside Barn is a wonderful relaxing place with everything you would ever want in a gite. The hosts Nicky and Ken are lovely people who made us so welcome, starting off with a very generous welcome pack. They live next door but were never intrusive, we had complete privacy and a sun terrace overlooking the river, fabulous!!!
Thank you both so much for your kind words and we are so pleased you enjoyed your week at the Riverside Barn. You were fantastic guests and the gite was absolutely immaculate when you left.
It is lovely you have taken the time to pass on your views and being our first year running the property it’s important to us to know you enjoyed your stay.
Please come back and visit us soon you are both most welcome
Nicky and Ken
We absolutely loved this property. It was pristine, well-equipped and comfortable throughout. There is a wonderful terrace on which you can sit and while away some peaceful time simply watching the adjacent river, with its adorable ducks and goose!
Plenty to do indoors, with books, games, English TV all provided. Tthe sofas were far better that you often find in gites - in fact all the facilities exceeded expectations. We took our own bikes to explore the area, and we could store them in the attached garage.
The local shop was well stocked for most stuff. The only reason we can't rate other local amenities a 10, is that all the local bars and restaurants there happened to be closed during our stay, for holidays (!) and other reasons. However, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could imagine needing, so we were happy to cook and while away lazy evenings in comfort.
Thank you, Barry and Vivienne, for the fantastic cakes you made for us! We were made so welcome, and would certainly like to return.
The description of the property was accurate but did not do it justice. It was to a standard seldom experienced and we have been fortunate enough to stay in some very good gites. Barry and Vivien were welcoming and offered help or advice if needed but not obtrusive.
The only negative and this was beyond our hosts control, was one of the local eateries was closed because of illness and the other had a limited menu.
We would recommend the property to friends and relations, not only that we hope to return.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Riverside Barn.
