We absolutely loved this property. It was pristine, well-equipped and comfortable throughout. There is a wonderful terrace on which you can sit and while away some peaceful time simply watching the adjacent river, with its adorable ducks and goose!
Plenty to do indoors, with books, games, English TV all provided. Tthe sofas were far better that you often find in gites - in fact all the facilities exceeded expectations. We took our own bikes to explore the area, and we could store them in the attached garage.
The local shop was well stocked for most stuff. The only reason we can't rate other local amenities a 10, is that all the local bars and restaurants there happened to be closed during our stay, for holidays (!) and other reasons. However, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could imagine needing, so we were happy to cook and while away lazy evenings in comfort.
Thank you, Barry and Vivienne, for the fantastic cakes you made for us! We were made so welcome, and would certainly like to return.
The description of the property was accurate but did not do it justice. It was to a standard seldom experienced and we have been fortunate enough to stay in some very good gites. Barry and Vivien were welcoming and offered help or advice if needed but not obtrusive.
The only negative and this was beyond our hosts control, was one of the local eateries was closed because of illness and the other had a limited menu.
We would recommend the property to friends and relations, not only that we hope to return.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Riverside Barn.
We cannot recommend this place highly enough. We could find no fault.
The couple who own the property are lovely and provide all the help and support needed.
The property is beautiful and has everything you could need and more besides. It is perfectly situated on the banks of La Benaizs in the village of La Trimouille. It has lovely patio overlooking the river.
The village has all you can need. There are several small shops including a grocery, boulangerie, newsagent and pharmacy. It has 3 bars and two restaurants. The 'Nord' does an excellent value fixed price menu and the 'Rives' serves meals with a 'Morocco' twist.
In the locality there are many small towns and villages to visit and Limoges and Poitiers are both only an hour or so away.
If you enjoy fishing then you can do so from the garden. The river contains a wide range of fish including Carp, Roach, Chub, Bream, Perch, Pike, Zander & Catfish. Also two species We struggled to identify.
We caught plenty including a Carp of just over 20 pounds and several smaller ones, a chub of around 5 pounds and loads of Roach, mostly between 2 and 8 ounces but the odd one pushing a pound.
We will definitely return
Thank you for a wonderful review, also great comments on fishing good information for future
After almost 20 years of holidaying in gites Riverside Barn is undoubtedly the best one we have ever stayed in. It has been restored to an amazing standard, there was nothing that we could fault with it. Barry and Vivien have thought of everything to make it a home from home, even down to the 2 umbrellas in a stand by the front door. We also had a really nice welcome pack when we arrived, including local cheese, wine and Barry's homemade Victoria Sponge, delicious. We will definitely return some time soon.
Alison Thank you for this lovely review, it was a pleasure to have you stay at Riverside Barn
