Just north of Poitiers is the Futuroscope theme park. The site (131 acres) is packed full of animations, technology and multimedia experiences to provide an exciting day out for all the family.
The Chauvigny market on Saturday mornings is not to be missed. It is a typical French market where you can find almost anything. Fruit and vegetables, bread, fish, macarons, cheese, clothes, household items, plants and much more. Wander through at your leisure or sit in one of the nearby cafés and enjoy a coffee whilst people-watching.
Hire a kayak or canoe and spend the afternoon on the river. See the beautiful countryside and wildlife from a different angle.
This area is full of countryside trails which are ideal for walking or cycling. There are 100s of kilometres of off-road tracks which take you through the beautiful Vienne countryside. In July the fields are full of sunflowers. At all times of the year there is plenty of wildlife to be spotted - red squirrels, hares, deer, birds of prey.
There are many restaurants in the area which provide excellent value for money. Enjoy a lazy lunch on the terrace.
Our family of five has just spent a two week holiday in this wonderful gîte. It was spotlessly clean, had everything we could possibly need and the lovely pool and garden had views of fields and trees and were completely private.
The three spacious bedrooms each have their own en-suite. We loved the ultra modern kitchen which was better equipped than ours at home! And the open plan design worked really well for our family.
The owners were nearby to answer any queries but otherwise completed pool maintenance and linen changes when we were not there.
You need a car to get around but there are many beautiful villages to explore, for example Montmorillon and Angles sur L’Anglin. The market at Chauvigny is not to be missed and the medieval castle where they have the “Giants du ciel” display where eagles and other birds fly around the turrets. We also enjoyed canoeing on the river Anglin and visited Futuroscope at Poitiers, which is pricey but a great day out.
Nearby St Savin is also very pretty and has two great Boulangeries and a small supermarket, as well as being an interesting place to walk around.
We were lucky with the weather, which was mostly gorgeous and sunny, but the gite has a log burner and underfloor heating installed so I would imagine it would be just as lovely to stay in out of season.
Property was beautiful, as described. Bedrooms comfortable and shower rooms great. Outside space better than expected as pictures don’t do it justice : warm, very clean pool and choice of seating areas. Owners thought of everything, kitchen had all you’d need plus a beautiful range cooker, everything spotlessly clean and well maintained. Friendly owners live next door so on hand if needed but left us alone ensuring we had our privacy. Recycling easy as bags etc all left for us and owners dealt with everything once bags were left outside. We travelled with teenagers of varied ages who loved their stay, as did we.
Local area worth exploring, Saint Savin Abby interesting, local supermarket about 10mins drive has everything you’d need and bakeries have tasty baguettes and croissants. Further afield are Futuroscope and Poitiers, with it’s ancient churches and Roman architecture also worth a visit.
This is an outstanding property, best we’ve ever stayed in over 20 years of visiting France. We had a fantastic time and we’d definitely love to return!
Excellent location and hosts. Wonderful gite located a few miles away from a small village. Perfect and quite.
The gite was very well equipped, everything that you could possibly need to make it feel like home from home.
Very, very clean with plenty of towels and additional bedding etc.
Hosts are on hand if you need them for anything as their home is adjacent to the gite.
Would most definitely recommend this property.
Located in a rural area amongst beautiful sunflowers, within easy reach of Saint Savin, a charming, friendly little village with several bars and restaurants and a decent supermarket. Sue and Adrian (owners) are a lovely, friendly couple who have obviously given gite and it's contents a lot of thought when planning, as it is extremely well equipped with everything that you could need. The solar heated pool is amazing and really warm. We have absolutely no problem recommending this property for a fabulous holiday and we will definitely plan to return in the future.
