Just north of Poitiers is the Futuroscope theme park. The site (131 acres) is packed full of animations, technology and multimedia experiences to provide an exciting day out for all the family.
The Chauvigny market on Saturday mornings is not to be missed. It is a typical French market where you can find almost anything. Fruit and vegetables, bread, fish, macarons, cheese, clothes, household items, plants and much more. Wander through at your leisure or sit in one of the nearby cafés and enjoy a coffee whilst people-watching.
Hire a kayak or canoe and spend the afternoon on the river. See the beautiful countryside and wildlife from a different angle.
This area is full of countryside trails which are ideal for walking or cycling. There are 100s of kilometres of off-road tracks which take you through the beautiful Vienne countryside. In July the fields are full of sunflowers. At all times of the year there is plenty of wildlife to be spotted - red squirrels, hares, deer, birds of prey.
There are many restaurants in the area which provide excellent value for money. Enjoy a lazy lunch on the terrace.
Very comfortable, spacious and well appointed. The pool was warm and the various seating areas allowed those who preferred shade or sun to find a suitable area throughout the day. Its a place to go and relax in comfort.
Perfect holiday get away for couples, families with young children as well as those with older children. Our party ranged from aged 4 upto 48, and it was perfect.
Secluded spot, with local amenities within a couple of miles. Local shops in Saint Savin consists of two fantastic bakeries, which we frequented on a daily basis and a variety of restaurants. The food that we had was just wonderful.
Perfect hosts, who are very accommodating and helpful who live next door and are there if you need them.
Property and facilities are exemplary. Spotlessly clean, everything that you need for your stay and beautiful gardens with a great pool. The pictures do not do this property justice.
I would definitely recommend this property!
Our second visit to Gite d'Artige and just as good an experience if not better than the first. Sue & Adrian have put together that brilliant combination of a really well maintained, clean property which is superbly equipped in a quiet rural location but within easy reach of places to visit and amenities.
The gite is extremely spacious with open plan kitchen/diner/lounge.
There are three great bedrooms with good en-suite facilities, and outside there is a superb pool area for sunbathing etc; there is a barbecue with a patio adjacent for alfresco dining, and on another side of the house you have a relaxing chill out area with sofas which is perfect for escaping the sun if you need to, which we did this year as the weather was fantastic all week.
Nearby places to visit are plentiful, such as the Cite Medieval in Chauvigny, which is a spectacular place in daytime but even more so at night when it is lit up; take a walk through medieval streets up to the square and have lunch in one of the restaurants there and take a look back in time; also in Chauvigny is Le Lion d'Or hotel which has a good restaurant, we have had dinner there twice and both times we had excellent food and service.. Another place to visit is Montmorillon, a pretty village associated strongly with books; park up, walk over the bridge and have galettes in the little cafe on the left.
Thanks to Sue & Adrian who are the perfect hosts, see you again soon,
Brian, Karen, Rachael & Sarah.
The Gite is fantastic with a very high standard of finish with all you could possibly require catered for and extremely well maintained, It is very spacious and comfortable with a modern finish and a rustic feel. The pool is fantastic and was heated so it was ideal for our 4 year old who loved it. The outside of the Gite is beautifully maintained with great furniture for relaxing on during the day or in the evenings.
The owners are very welcoming and available at any time if required but do not intrude and the Gite and pool are very private.
The local town of Saint Savin is charming with beautiful areas along the river for picnics and a local market. It also has a good supermarket, restaurants and excellent pâtisseries. It is also close to several large towns with good food and shopping.
It’s a short drive to a wildlife park where we hired bicycles and had a great day cycling around and seeing the animals.
I would highly recommend this Gite for a relaxing break and will definitely return again. 10/10
