Le Petit Paradis is a charming detached gite that sits within the garden adjacent to the pool area. Recently fully refurbished in 2016, it has met with the approval of all the guests that have stayed there.
The owners have complimented the many original features with beautiful furniture and accessories. Everyone who has seen the gite has fallen in love with it, and we are really pleased with the transformation that we have made to the gite.
The kitchen area is light and bright with all the equipment that you would need to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. The kitchen has a gas hob and electric oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave oven.
The living room is situated adjacent to the open plan kitchen. The area has been tastefully furnished and has a TV which can receive UK channels. A lovely sliding pine door leads directly to the bedroom.
The double bedroom is a real gem with a comfortable bed, wardrobe, drawer unit and bedside cabinets.
The bathroom area has been refurbished a high standard, with travertine clad walls and floor. The room has a shower cubicle, wash hand basin and toilet
Immediately outside the doors to the gite is your own private patio area complete with bistro table and chairs. If you do not want to use the barbecue in the barn then we can supply you with your own to use within the patio area.
The garden is lawned and has a number of fruit trees and shrubs.
Guests can also be supplied with seasonal fruit and vegetables from the owners vegetable plot. These usually include melons, strawberries, the sweetest of tomatoes, lettuces, potatoes, onions and rhubarb etc.
Parking space is available at the entrance to the property.
The gite is suitable for couples and is all on one level (so no stairs to negotiate).
We have recently added four adult bikes for our guests to use. However you will need to provide your own safety equipment (ie helmets) and sign a disclaimer before using the bikes.
We have been married for 35 years, and have 2 grown up children who both work as teachers in the UK. We needed a 'project' that would enable us to not only live in the countryside, but would also give us the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. With our first years experience under our belt, and with a lot of hard graft in getting the gites up to the standard that we would wish to find as a holiday home, we definately made the right decision in making the jump to France.
|Year property purchased||2016|
|Why this location?||Not only are the gites in an area that is easily accessible from the UK, but it is also in one of the sunniest regions of France. We are surrounded by arable farmland and this means an abundance of sunflower fields in the summer months. Although we are in a rural location we are lucky to have some fantastic restaurants nearby that are well worth visiting. There are some great markets and supermarkets within 15 minutes drive, and our local town of Chaunay (5 mins drive) has a convenience store, boulangerie, bar and chemist.|
|Unique benefits of property||One of the key features of the gites are that they are both detached, and are not linked to the owners house. This ensures a certain amount of privacy that we think is important when holidaying. The swimming pool area is an absolute sun trap and is surrounded by Honeysuckle on three sides. All of our guests fall in love with our pride and joy 'Big Barn'. This fantastic space allows guests to have a barbecue, play table tennis, sit in the shade for a mid afternoon nap, or have a drink whilst viewing the milky way in the night sky. You may even get lucky with our resident Little Owls that nest in our house, or even spot the Barn Owls that sometimes hunt in our garden.
The garden has numerous fruit trees on which guests can help themselves to any ripe seasonal fruit (Apples, Pears, Figs, Plums and Passion fruit).
The gites were fully refurbished in 2016 and have so far met with the approval of all our previous guests.
Probably the most picturesque restaurant that we go to. This former water mill is set beside a weir on the Charante river just outside of Ruffec. We prefer to eat at this restaurant at lunchtime to enjoy the scenery. However, the three course Menu du Jour at 13.50 euros is great value for money.
One of our personal favourites located on the banks of the Charente river in the town of Civray. The presentation of the food is fantastic and the menu changes often. What can be better than eating outside in the evening under a canopy of trees festooned with outdoor lights? The dessert menu is to die for, and if you can't decide what to have then go for the Cafe Gourmand, which is a small sample of the desserts that they do, plus an Espresso coffee. You will not be dissapointed.
This lovely restaurant is situated between Sauze Vaussais and Ruffec and takes around 20 minutes from our property. A great location either indoors or outside, and great tasting food. Some evenings have music from local bands etc.
If you can't do without your Sunday lunch Angleterre style, then this is the place to head for. We regularly visit for our fix of roast with all the trimmings. The price is excellent too, with 3 courses including wine for under 20 euros. They are also open on selected other days with other menus
Excellent restaurant for either Menu du Jour at lunchtime or an evening meal. Located in the stunning village of Verteuil-sur-Charente, with its amazing Chateau on the banks of the Charente river. Well worth a visit to both the restaurant and village for a photo on the bridge with the Chateau as a backdrop.
Spend the day in the company of over 350 monkeys, many in total freedom. This park is only 20 minutes from the property and offers some great photo opportunities with our early relatives.
This futuristic theme park is situated just outside Poitiers and is in the top 10 of the most visited tourist attractions in France. Most of the rides are indoors so you are not effected by poor weather. However, you must stick around for the lazer show at night.
Lovely city about 35 minutes norh of Chaunay. There are a great variety of shops and restaurants but the real jewel is the splendid cathedral which has a carved stone facade and amazing stained glass windows.
La Rochelle is a popular coastal town with a stunning harbour with a rich history. By car it takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes so a day trip is easily achievable to sample the shopping and restaurants.
Ille de Re is an island of around 85 sq km2 just off of the coast near La Rochelle. You will need to access the island via a toll bridge, buit the cost is well worth it to visit such a stunning location ful;l of glorious beaches, boutiques and restaurants.
We are very lucky to have a gym within the village and it is just a short sprint (or a 150 metre jog) from our property. It is run by Becci and Paul, and judging by the amount of support that it is getting from the locals it looks as though it is going from strength to strength. So if you want to maintain your fitness whilst holidaying with us, or you want to start getting fit, then you have the facilities on your doorstep. It is a very social group so you can get chatting to the rest of the group over a coffee in the garden.
We had the BEST holiday in La Petit Paradise! Paradise indeed: a gorgeous gite, newly renovated to a very high spec - and so clean - with everything we needed! The welcome pack was so generous, with Glen even asking us our preferred colour of wine! The vegetables from the gardens were also delicious, and such a lovely treat! The grounds are stunning, the pool phenomenal - we had so many relaxing days lying on the sun loungers provided, and the barn is a great addition for another option for bbqs in the evening. The setting is stunning - endless fields of sunflowers, beautiful sunsets and it was so quiet! We felt so relaxed there & did not want to leave. Glen & Mandy are fabulous hosts, helping out wherever required, with lots of helpful recommendations for local amenities - dinner at the Hotel du Commerce in Suivre is a must. We love loved our stay & will definitely be back again - would highly recommend to anyone considering this property, you will not be disappointed! Thank you Glen & Mandy for making our holiday so perfect.
Wow, what can we say about your review other than thank you very much, it is really appreciated as it makes all the difference and makes you feel that all the work that we put in is appreciated.
You know that we would love to have you back again and you have lots of places and restaurants that you need to visit.
The thing that I will always remember is after returning from your over night visit to Ill de Re, you opened the door to the gite and said 'hello home'. That was lovely and still makes me smile.
Thank you again and we hope to see you again for a relaxing time with us.
Glen and Mandy
We have stayed in Gites all over France ( this was our 10th visit ) and I have no hesitation in saying that Glen and Mandy’s is top draw, up there with the very best.
We stayed in Le Petit Paradis, which was clean, tidy, cute, and a joy all round. Glens eye for decorative detail is spot on, with no unwanted clutter, just everything you need, with even a few things you didn't know you needed.
The pool was just what we wanted - full of water, under a blue sky and surrounded by comfortable sun loungers, all waiting to pamper you after a exhausting day out sampling french cuisine. There were also plenty of extras like table tennis, BBQ’s, welcoming bottles of wine and a great garden featuring delicious home grown tomatoes and plums for us to pick.
To cap it all Glen and Mandy were brilliant, friendly and informative. From the moment they welcomed our arrival with a cold beer after a long drive, we knew we’d booked the right place.
I suggest you treat yourself and reserve your stay without further ado.
Dear William and Joan
Thank you so much for your review, which has included great feedback. It was an absolute pleasure to have you both stay with us and we really enjoyed your wicked sense of humour. We are particularly pleased that the pool had enough water in it for you !
The veg plot continues to keep giving our guests produce, but I think that you saw the best of it.
Thank you also for the sketch that you did of us catching some rest on our loungers in front of our house.
Best wishes to you both and hope that we see you again some time.

Easy access from airport with good road links.Very nice setting in a quiet part of the world.Property was clean and well maintained to a high standard. The host was brilliant and made your stay with his personal touch.Lovely swimming pool which was kept in immaculate condition and very good dining arrangements both inside the cottage and outside covered bar-b-que facility.Local amenities a short drive away.Would definitely recommend this property to friends and family.
Dear Marion and Allan
Thank you very much for your review and we are really pleased that you enjoyed what we have to offer. The swimming pool takes a lot to keep it looking good, but when it is in constant use we aim to clean it
Thanks also for the tips on the veg patch. The beetroots and cucumbers are doing well, but the spring onions didn't fancy it, but the melons are going crazy. The guests and local residents are getting their fair share of salads and spuds.
We hope to see at Chaunay gites again.

WE had a lovely weeks holiday really enjoyed the local wild life and birds in the garden( the nightingales singing in the morning and evening was fantastic) Glen worked hard to help us enjoy our stay and he also introduced me to The Golf Club du Haut Poitou Saint Cyr, one of the best and most challenging courses I have played for a long time.
