My partner Paul and I have dreamt of living in France for some years. We love France for it's wonderful climate, the space, but especially the community feel, people looking out for each other. After looking at dozens of properties, we instantly fell in love with Marigné and have created a beautiful and charming rural idyll for our guests. We are very friendly and really enjoy meeting new people. We love the sense of freedom here, enjoying the garden and spending time with our dog and cats.

|Why this location?||Marigné offers all the peace of a rural location but is within a 5 minute drive of local amenities. The area is famous for it's sun-soaked climate and rolling fields of sunflowers, we are lucky enough to live right next to one. The nearby town of Civray (2017) has two weekly markets, a number of shops and beautiful old church set alongside the river Charente. Civray even has a music festival in the summer and a great bar with frequent live music. There are many marked hiking trails and the area is very popular for canoeing. For great days out with the kids, there are a number of lakes close by with a variety of activities, we are close to Vallee des Singes (Monkey Valley) and the famous Futuroscope. For a spot of culture, both Bordeaux and Paris are within 2 hours travel. For wine lovers the UNESCO world heritage site at St Emilion is also accessible and the beautiful coastline at La Rochelle is around 1.5 hours drive away. The area has something for everyone.|
|Unique benefits of property||Set in over 2 acres of grounds, Hiboux is one of three gites that are available to book separately or as a combined holiday let for several families. Each house has it's own private garden and barbeque area and all have access to the beautiful, large 12m heated pool with sun loungers and parasols provided. There is a children's play area, petanque pitch and a variety of outdoor play equipment, freely available. We keep organically fed chickens in a large fruit orchard. All gites are decorated in a vintage style, in keeping with their rustic charm, yet are fully equipped for modern living with dishwashers and microwaves. All linen and towels, including for the pool, are provided. A laundry room is available for guests. Each gite has a wood burning stove for use in the colder months and a complimentary barrow of wood is provided between November and the end of March. We are available throughout your stay and will endeavour to ensure you have a fantastic time away.|
The nearby town of Ruffec has an excellent centre for canoe trips, www.canoeruffec.fr. Choose from a couple of hours to a whole day. We spent a wonderful afternoon on the river Charente and never saw another soul until the end. We did see plenty of herons, otters and a family of large water voles who allowed us to come really close.
Civray has two weekly markets, the Tuesday morning one being the largest. It sells a large variety of fruit, vegetables and local cheeses. You can also buy shoes, clothes, books and gifts. This is very popular with locals as well as tourists and the cafes are usually very busy. I recommend you park in the local pool car park, a very short walk away.
As the title implies, the nearby villages of Nanteuil en Valleé and Verteuil sur Charente are a must. Around a 20 minute drive away, Verteuil boasts a beautiful Chateau in a quaint village. I love the pretty vintage shop and tea room at Demures des Roses and the Old Mill for lunch. Nanteuil is a tiny village with stone and timber houses, an abbey and beautiful garden walk. We have tried the excellent restaurant at Auberge de l'Argentor and been recommended to eat at Auberge St Jean.
Many of the local restaurants offer a great plat du jour for lunch, City O Ven in Civray offers a great lunch. When you want a break from French cuisine, I highly recommend O'Napoli just off the town square in Civray. After years of travelling across Europe, the best pizza I have ever had!
This great day out is around 15 minutes away. I took two little boys last summer, no queues to get in, plenty of space for all and a large variety of monkeys running free. The staff will loan you a monkey proof bag for your lunch and there are designated areas to eat that are monkey free! It was a great experience to get so close to these creatures and the park is well equipped with cafes and play areas. Feeding time for the gorillas ( separated by water) was amazing, we loved it as have many of the guests.
