|Gites Du Marigné, Chez Tournesol||Self Catering||Flexible||2||5||1||1 double, 1 x 3 single beds|
TOUR DE FRANCE FANS! We are lucky enough to have this famous cycling event passing close by, ending in Poitiers on 8th July 2020, book early to avoid disappointment. The tour also ends at the wonderful coastline at Ile de Ré on 7th July 2020, a wonderful day out for our guests.
We discovered the gites at Marigné after years of looking and found a little piece of heaven here that we want to share with our guests. Tournesol is set in a peaceful, rural hamlet yet is only a 5 minute drive from local shops and close to our local market town of Civray. The town has 2 weekly markets, a number of cafes, bars and restaurants and even has a quaint little cinema, showing the latest films in French and English. There are 2 excellent bakers and a charcuterie.
This adorable gite is set in 2 acres of gardens and meadow for you to explore and enjoy. Our large, heated pool, complete with comfortable sun loungers, cushions and parasols, provides the perfect way to relax in the sun. We enjoy a wonderful climate and are in one of the warmest and sunniest regions of France. There are plenty of fun days out locally, our guests have enjoyed the variety of cycling and walking paths, ( bicycles can be hired and delivered on site), canoeing on the mighty Charente river, visiting the famous Futuroscope or the nearby Valleé des Singes. We are within easy reach of Cognac with it's famous brandy tours and Chateaux, La Rochelle with it's lively seaside atmosphere, bustling and beautiful Bordeaux and the UNESCO world heritage site of St Emilion, for wine lovers. However, what many guests tell us is that they are quite happy to stay on site at Marigné, enjoying ball games or a game of petanque and having fun together in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. As we live on site, we are available to help with any queries or recommendations needed. We understand that a holiday is an opportunity for busy families to regroup and to spend quality time together. We pride ourselves on our commitment to help in any way we can to ensure our guests have a wonderful stay.
Tournesol has been converted from a barn attached to a Charentaise style farmhouse. It has retained many of its original features such as exposed beams and stone walls. Decorated in a vintage style, it provides a comfortable 2 bedroomed (sleeps 5) holiday home in a peaceful setting. You will be warmly welcomed by the hosts who live on site and are on hand to help with any queries. We understand that time away from the stresses and strains of busy lives is extremely important and we strive to provide a place away from it all, a place to relax, unwind and rejuvenate the soul. A place to look up at the starriest of skies, bask in the warm sunshine or simply enjoy the peace and quiet. It is important to us that our guests feel welcome and at home so we provide a hamper on arrival and are happy to accept well behaved dogs. We provide all linens and towels and a pack and go cleaning service if you wish in order to offer a stress free holiday.
Tournesol has a small but well equipped kitchen area with microwave, fridge freezer and dishwasher. The living area has a dining table and chairs for meals inside.
The relaxing living area has a tv, dvd with a selection of films, books and games. The woodburner makes it suitable for year round stays and the stone walls provide a cool space in summer.
The charming double bedroom with it's exposed beams and beautiful bed linen is a peaceful haven for a restful night's sleep. The sweet second bedroom has 3 single beds, exposed beams and retains its rustic charm. A cot and highchair are available on request.
Tournesol has a large family bathroom with shower unit and traditional sink unit.
Tournesol is kept warm in the colder months by an electric bathroom heater and woodburner in the living area. A complimentary barrow of wood is provided for guests staying from November to April.
The area is ideal for cycling, bike hire can be arranged to deliver and collect on site. The nearby town of Civray has a small cinema showing both English and French films, several good restaurants and cafes and a bar with frequent live music. The area is excellent for canoeing as we are close to the mighty river Charente.
Tournesol is set in over 2 acres of gardens and meadows, directly adjacent to agricultural fields. The large 12 x 6 metre heated swimming pool is easily accessible. Plenty of loungers and parasols are provided. The meadow has a children's play area, petanque pitch and a variety of outdoor games freely available. There is a small private barbeque area with outdoor furniture for al fresco meals.
A car park is available for our guest's use.
Suitable for families, including children and groups of friends.
Washing machines are available in our on-site laundry room.
My partner Paul and I have dreamt of living in France for some years. We love France for it's wonderful climate, the space but especially the community feel, people looking out for each other. After looking at dozens of properties, we instantly fell in love with Marigné and have created a beautiful and charming rural idyll for our guests. We are very friendly and really enjoy meeting new people. We love the sense of freedom here, enjoying the garden and spending time with our dog and cats.

|Why this location?||Marigné offers all the peace of a rural location but is within a 5 minute drive of local amenities. The area is famous for it's sun-soaked climate and rolling fields of sunflowers, we are lucky enough to live right next to one. The nearby town of Civray has two weekly markets, a number of shops and beautiful old church set alongside the river Charente. Civray even has a music festival in the summer and a great bar with frequent live music. There are many marked hiking trails and the area is very popular for canoeing. For great days out with the kids, there are a number of lakes close by with a variety of activities, we are close to Vallee des Singes (Monkey Valley) and the famous Futuroscope. For a spot of culture, both Bordeaux and Paris are within 2 hours travel. For wine lovers the UNESCO world heritage site at St Emilion is also accessible and the beautiful coastline at La Rochelle is around 1.5 hours drive away. The area has something for everyone.|
|Unique benefits of property||Tournesol is one of 3 gites available at Gites du Marigné, available to rent separately or all together. Named after the famous local sunflowers, is a beautiful converted barn attached to a Charentaise style farmhouse. Decorated in an appealing, vintage style, Tournesol has a pleasant double bedroom and family room with 3 single beds, cosy living area with wood burning stove and well equipped kitchen, offering a wonderful home from home. A private barbeque area with garden furniture allows guests to enjoy al fresco meals or just to delight in the wonderful climate and peaceful setting. With views across the fields to the front and the large, heated pool at the rear of the house, it has all you could want for a relaxing family holiday. The large meadow with children's play area, games and petanque pitch provides an ideal environment for spending quality time together. Guests receive a welcome hamper on arrival and for winter breaks, a barrow of wood is supplied.|
The area is excellent for cycling along the many rural byways and riverside paths. Bike hire is available from www.bikehiredirect.com who will deliver and collect bikes directly from the gites for your convenience.
Our local town of Civray, a few minutes drive away, has two weekly market. Tuesday mornings the market has a large selection of locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, fish, meat, clothing and gifts. Friday mornings the market sells mainly fresh produce.
Our local town of Civray is home to Lich bar, a family friendly homely place run by the lovely Vero and her daughter. They have a lovely open air courtyard frequently hosting great live music.
So close to the mighty Charente river, there are many opportunities for canoeing. Choose from a couple of hours to a whole day on the river. We saw otters, herons and water voles in one blissfully peaceful afternoon on the river. We recommend www.canoeruffec.fr
As the title suggests, the villages of Nanteuil en Valleé and Verteuil sur Charente are picturesque, beautiful places to visit around a 20 minute drive away. We love Verteuil for it's Chateau, the nearby delightful Demures des Roses with it's vintage shop, sweet tea room and fabulous ice cream. Nanteuil has a lovely garden walk and abbey, beautiful old buildings some of which date back to the 12th century.
This great family day out is a short drive away. Small children adore walking amongst the many varieties of monkeys, watching the gorillas at feeding time, (separated by water from the public). There are a number of cafes and restaurants and several play areas for children. We took two small boys during the summer holidays who absolutely loved it.
One of the best loved leisure parks in France, Futuroscope at Poitiers offers fun for the whole family, renowned for it's high tech attractions.
City Ven does a lovely confit de canard and excellent café gourmand! O'Napoli is run by a lovely young French couple and they offer the best pizza ever. Has to be tried!
Gites Du Marigne is the perfect holiday destination for those seeking a peaceful location for a break in rural France. We travelled with our 17 year old son who was more than happy with the facilities available, especially the pool which is well maintained and clean. The Gite was well equipped with everything needed for a self catering holiday and very clean and the welcoming pack much appreciated. The property is set in beautiful, quiet countryside and it was a pleasure to relax in our private area. Although set in the countryside, the local town is close by and we took advantage of the bars and restaurants there and enjoyed the twice weekly market . The area is great for exploring either by car, bike or on foot with many charming villages in the surrounding area. Our hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful and could not do enough to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable and I would not hesitate to recommend this property to any friend or relative looking for a place to stay in this area. We are already planning our return trip.
thank you so much for your lovely review. We really appreciate it. It was a pleasure to meet you all and we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay so much. We are very much looking forward to seeing you again next year.
With our very best wishes

A great place. I have whizzed past this area between Poitiers and Bordeaux many times but have never stopped before now. There is loads to do, see and experience for anyone (and any age) whether in the know about "La France profonde" or new to it. The gites (there are three) are on a large property just off a very peaceful road. There is a huge swimming pool and large green areas for games. Perfect for kids to let off steam or for those without them to loll. The accommodation is very well kept and lavishly equipped, and because the owners (who live there) are from the UK there are lots of UK - related bits that you don't get in normal French gites. GB satellite TV as well. In spite of the prevailing calm, there is massive Intermarche three km away, and a cosy town (Civray) with a breathtaking church and a decent market. Access to places on the larger scale (Poitiers, La Rochelle, Limoges) is relatively easy The north-south liaison via the N 10 (a fast dual carriageway) is quite close by.
Dear Andrew and Sarah,
thank you so much for such a wonderful review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay here and discovered this lovely part of France. It is very important to us that our guests feel well catered for in terms of accommodation and facilities so it is a real pleasure to get your feedback. We very much hope we will see you again in future.
With best wishes

I had such a lovely week-long stay in Chez Tournesol and cannot recommend it enough.
The property was well-cleaned and as described, and the owners were very welcoming with great customer service. We stayed during the heatwave where temperatures reached 40 degrees celsius, and Jeany & Paul ensured we had plenty of fans to keep us cool at night.
During the day we relaxed at the decked pool area and cooled off with a swim. We went canoeing one afternoon at Rejallant Ruffec, on the river Charente, which was just a short drive away and lots of fun.
It's a peaceful & serene area and I would highly recommend it to everyone, but especially for people who work in a city, as it allows you to escape the stressful city environment and relax amongst nature.
thank you very much for your lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and are looking forward to welcoming you back again soon.
Had a wonderful week staying in Tournesol, would really recommend to anyone staying with young children! The kids loved their room and the whole house was very rustic and beautiful. Nice mixture of a quiet and peaceful location, with lots to in driving distance. Kids enjoyed Futuroscope (a virtual reality theme park!) and exploring nearby towns during the day, we enjoyed the wine and quiet sunny evenings back at the gites. Owners and their animals couldn't have been more lovely.
thank you so much for your lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and had such a great day out at Futuroscope. We really hope to see you again in future.
