About the Owner/Advertiser, Ms Jeany Brazier

My partner Paul and I have dreamt of living in France for some years. We love France for it's wonderful climate, the space but especially the community feel, people looking out for each other. After looking at dozens of properties, we instantly fell in love with Marigné and have created a beautiful and charming rural idyll for our guests. We are very friendly and really enjoy meeting new people. We love the sense of freedom here, enjoying the garden and spending time with our dog and cats.

Year property purchased 2017
Why this location? Marigné offers all the peace of a rural location but is within a 5 minute drive of local amenities. The area is famous for it's sun-soaked climate and rolling fields of sunflowers, we are lucky enough to live right next to one. The nearby town of Civray has two weekly markets, a number of shops and beautiful old church set alongside the river Charente. Civray even has a music festival in the summer and a great bar with frequent live music. There are many marked hiking trails and the area is very popular for canoeing. For great days out with the kids, there are a number of lakes close by with a variety of activities, we are close to Vallee des Singes (Monkey Valley) and the famous Futuroscope. For a spot of culture, both Bordeaux and Paris are within 2 hours travel. For wine lovers the UNESCO world heritage site at St Emilion is also accessible and the beautiful coastline at La Rochelle is around 1.5 hours drive away. The area has something for everyone.
Unique benefits of property La Petite Maison provides the perfect romantic getaway for couples or those seeking peaceful solitude. This charming Napoleonic cottage retains all the charisma of bygone times yet provides modern comfortable living for a relaxing, blissful holiday. The wood burner ensures cosy breaks are available all year round. Set in over 2 acres of meadow and gardens, there is a wonderful feeling of space but at the same time, a small, private garden and decked barbeque area provide a peaceful haven for guests.

Villages pittoresque

As the title suggests, the villages of Nanteuil en Valleé and Verteuil sur Charente are picturesque, beautiful places to visit around a 20 minute drive away. We love Verteuil for it's Chateau, the nearby delightful Demures des Roses with it's vintage shop, sweet tea room and fabulous ice cream. Nanteuil has a lovely garden walk and abbey, beautiful old buildings some of which date back to the 12th century.

The area is excellent for cycling along the many rural byways and riverside paths. Bike hire is available from who will deliver and collect bikes directly from the gites for your convenience.

Our local town of Civray, a few minutes drive away, has two weekly market. Tuesday mornings the market has a large selection of locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, fish, meat, clothing and gifts. Friday mornings the market sells mainly fresh produce.

Our local town of Civray is home to Lich bar, a real gem with very friendly service, a lovely open air courtyard and frequent live music.

City Ven does a great confit de canard and their café gourmand is a delight. O'Napoli is run by a lovely young French couple who serve the best pizza ever! Both are 5 minutes drive.

We were fortunate to find this little gem located in a small village which was peaceful and quiet. Our hosts could not have been better. The complex of three Gites have a heated swimming pool, all the facilities for children and a lovely white Retriever called Bertie and several hens.
The welcome pack had all we wanted including their own eggs and home made jams.
There is a Supermarket 5 minutes away and opposite a lovely bakery selling croissants and excellent bread.
Our hosts recommended several restaurants in neighbouring villages which we visited and were not disappointed.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and we will return.

10 / 10 Beautiful and peaceful 26 September, 2019

We spent a week here in September and loved every minute of it. The weather was still great to spend the days by the pool. We loved the charming cottage, the rural setting and the hosts, Paul and Jeany, were lovely and helpful. We did a bit of both, trips out to explore but also spend a few days by the pool to recharge our batteries. We drove from the UK and the drive was absolutely fine and straight forward. Already thinking about when to return next :)

10 / 10 EMILY DRAKE 19 September, 2019

My wife and I visited here in September. We hired a car in Poitiers and drove the 45 minute journey to the Gites du Marigne with ease. We were welcomed by our hosts Jeanie and Paul and shown to ‘Le Petit Maison’. The grounds are exceptionally beautiful and kept in par with the local rural area. The accommodation we had was a one bedroom small house with en-suite facilities. The house is well equipped with kitchen equipment, a welcome pack of freshly laid eggs, pastries, butter, tea, coffee etc etc.. The swimming pool was a real treat on the hot days that we had lounging around, there’s also great local villages to visit within 30 minutes drive. We both slept very well and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will be returning to explore more of the area very soon. Thank you Jeany and Paul.

A well renovated and excellently maintained Gite in lovely Charente countryside. Jeany and Paul are excellent, hardworking hosts who were happy to give us advise on local restaurants, markets etc. There is a very clean swimming pool which was most welcome on the hot days.
They provide a generous welcome pack as well as towels for use in both the house and the pool. There are a lot of birds, house martins, owls, hawks, woodpecker etc in the grounds. Be sure to check out the display that the house martins give around the pool in the evening.
Both the friendly hosts and La Petite Maison are highly recommended.
