Situated in a peaceful hamlet, this single level barn conversion set within a property of two and a half acres of land and completed in December 2009 is just 10kms from the historic town of Richelieu.

Sympathetically converted, the barn retains many of the original beams and has been tastefully furnished to ensure that you have a comfortable, peaceful stay and is ideal for families and couples holidaying together.

For two people, bedrooms 1 & 3 are closed off and the rental is reduced by £200 to £300 depending on season.

The gite and it's garden are not overlooked by the owner's property.



Kitchen and dining

The large kitchen and dining area is open plan and has double frenchdoors to the outside terraces and garden.

There is a table and chairs for 6 plus a highchair, kettle, fridge-freezer, dishwasher plus cutlery, full range of kitchen utensils, baby bottle steriliser and other equipment including plastic cutlery and crockery for infants.

Living rooms

This features 3 comfy 2 seater sofas, flat screen television (with Freesat), dvd/cd player, 3 occasional tables one of which holds the wi-fi router and a log burning stove.

Free wi-fi broadband internet access is provided.


Bedroom 1 has a king size bed, bedside tables and lamps, a chaise longue, wardrobe, dressing table and stool. An en suite bathroom has a vanity unit, basin, bath with a shower plus a heated towel rail. The bedroom has double frenchdoors with shutters leading to the outdoor terrace and has views of the gite garden, the orchard, the two and a half acre field and the surrounding countryside.

Bedroom 2 has a 6ft super king size bed which can be converted to twin beds if preferred. There is a wardrobe, armchair, dressing table with stool, bedside tables with lamps. The velux window has a black-out blind. It also has double frenchdoors with shutters leading to the same terrace with outside views as has bedroom 1.

Bedroom 3 has the same bed arrangement option and furniture as bedroom 2. There is also a full size cot and black-out blinds on the windows. The window looks over the play area, potager and field.

Bedding is supplied for all bedrooms.


Bedroom 1 has an en suite and the other 2 bedrooms share a large family bathroom with bath, hand held mixer shower, separate large walk-in shower, washbasin, shaver point, wc, chair and a heated towel rail.

All towels are provided.


The gite enjoys electric central heating in all rooms apart from the utility room and there is also a log burning stove in the living room.

Logs are available at a nominal price if required.

Garden and outside

The top terrace outside the kitchen and bedrooms 1 & 2 has a granite table and 4 chairs. On the lower level is a table and 6 chairs.

The garden is a pleasant sheltered area in which to relax. There is an orchard with several fruit trees and a sweet chestnut tree. A Weber charcoal barbeque is also provided.

The two and a half acre field is ideal for games for the children (and adults) with child-size football posts, footballs, boules, outdoor picksticks, plus bats and balls to name but a few. There is a swing set, a slide, a sandpit and, if required, a paddling pool.

A bench and chairs are provided from which to watch the children playing or just admire the beautiful countryside. You can even see a small chateau across the valley.

Parking and garages

Ample private parking is available inside the owner's courtyard which has high stone walls, electric gates at the entrance and a lockable gate to the gite area.

Information about any additional facilities

In the gite is a separate utility room with 2 large water tanks which provide ample hot water for a family group. It also has a washing machine, a clothes airer and all the usual cleaning equipment. There is also a small library of paperback books, boardgames, dvds and cds. A large box of toys is also available.

A baby monitor with display is available if required.

A welcome pack is provided consisting of teabags, coffee, sugar, butter, jam, ham, cheese, eggs, biscuits, fruit in season, bread, yogurts, milk and a bottle of sparkling wine.

There is bike storage in an open-fronted barn for which notice is required.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Michael John Demaine

We are Glynis & Mike Demaine and over the years we took our three children on numerous holidays to France. Taking early retirement we decided to move to France and did so in 2006. After the hustle and bustle of our previous life we find living here extremely calm and tranquil. We are always happy and available to give help and advice if required but keep a low profile to ensure your privacy.

Why this location? La Grange is located in a sleepy rural hamlet just 10 minutes from the historic walled town of Richelieu which has shops, bars, restaurants, supermarket, fuel station, doctors and Tourist Info.Office as well as the 300 year old Les Halles where the weekly market has a wide range of produce and a good place for picking up goodies for a picnic in the town's 1000 acre park. Many of the Loire's most magnificent chateaux are within easy reach including Chinon, Saumur, Montreuil-Bellay, Azay Le Rideau and the original Sleeping Beauty castle of Usse. Lots of other things to see including paddling, lake swimming, pedaloes and water slide at the sandy beach at St. Cyr, water sports and beach at Moncontour, space age, interactive experiences at Futuroscope theme park (45 mins), Jungle Fun at Thure (15 mins) and the zoo at Doue-la-Fontaine Bioparc set in an old quarry (1 hr).There are also many troglodyte caves in the area and numerous fine wine caves and the area enjoys above average sunshine.

There are numerous lovely restaurants we can recommend and a full list is placed in a folder in the gite because we find that this is the best way forward as restaurants can change for better or worse or even close down whilst others open up so we like to keep that information up to date as possible for our guests.

A large monthly country style market is held in Lencloitre on the first Monday of every month.
Richelieu has a market every Friday morning.
Chinon has a market every Thursday morning and Loudun has one every Tuesday morning.
There are brocante markets most Sunday mornings including Chinon which is on the second Sunday of every month.
Most food markets close at lunch time.
