This 2 bedroom gite forms part of a magnificient medieval stone village house which dates back to around the 12thC which the present owners, Rob and Sue, enjoy as a second home. One of the previous owners during the 1970s was the great nephew of Field Marshal Montgomery of Alamein fame (more usually referred to as 'Monty').
The villlage of Mailhac has a long history, being surrounded by vineyards, yet located close in one direction to the southern edge of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Park with it's scenic views, walks, drives and cycle routes through hills into the more mountainous areas. In the other direction you are not far from the Mediterranean coast with all its attractions.
The famous fortified city of Carcassone is within an hour by car, leading south into Cathar country with a plethora of hilltop monasteries and attrctive villages.
The Canal du Midi, lined with wonderful restaurants, is a 10 minute drive away.
Although Mailhac is a small village, it does have a general shop and a bar. Supermarkets etc. can be found nearby and there are many excellent restaurants. It has it's own swimming pool which is open during July and August.
The kitchen is well equipped with a cooker combining a four-ring gas hob and oven, tall fridge with freezer compartment and microwave. There are double frenchdoors leading onto a small balcony with additional table and chairs.
Stairs lead up from the kitchen to a large sitting room on the second floor with frenchdoors leading out to a spacious terrace which provides both sun and shade.
The entrance to the gite leads into one of the bedrooms, comprising a double bed (4ft.) with en suite shower room. The room has the benefit of a single futon to allow separate sleeping arrangements if required.
The charming main bedroom is on the first floor and has a double bed.
In addition to the en suite shower room there is a bathroom comprising bath/shower, wash hand basin and bidet; there is a separate wc.

In addition to the second floor terrace already described, there is a second terrace which has a beautiful south-west rooftop vista.
The gite is situated on a pedestrianised street with the benefit of nearby parking.
Due to the number of stairs, not suitable for people with mobility problems and we prefer children to be over 10 years old.
Beautiful old walled towns of Minerve and Carcassonne. Nearby Lac Jouarre for swimming and watersports. Mediterranean coast and etangs for swimming etc. and sampling wide variety of seafood - noted for cheap oysters and mussels Haut Languedoc National Park for walking, exploring caves River Cesse/Orb for canoeing and swimming
