This is a large and carefully renovated stone flagged house right next to the Canal du Midi in arguably the best village along the Canal – Le Somail. This house generously accommodates 8 - 10 people.
The house has amazing views of the canal, and has its own large private courtyard to the front. overlooking the canal with a large bbq and dining area, and a sitting area. To the back and through a pretty cedar gate there is a large private garden with pool. The pool has lots of decked areas for private sunbathing, and has teak (cushioned) loungers, hammocks, umbrellas olive and lemon trees and a stunning cactus garden, all of which lends itself to luxurious and relaxing privacy and space.
There is private off road parking.
"We had a holiday here with 2 other couples and the place is amazing. The house is beautiful and well equipped, you can enjoy the garden and the swimming pool to cool down during the hot days. The house is located along the Canal du Midi with nice restaurants around and beautiful walks to be made. Sue has been a great host during our stay and gave us all the information we needed. Can only recommend it for a nice stay with friends or family".
The kitchen is large well equipped kitchen and is open plan, so that the dining area is next to it and over looks the canal. Easy seating for 8 - 10
The sitting room is tucked around the open plan corner and is very relaxing, with a large and comfortable corner settee. It has views of the canal, a wooden floor, and is generally a cool place to relax away from the sun!

I have lived in the area for ten years, and restored these two properties throughout over the last few years.

|Why this location?||This location is superb - 30 minutes from lovely beaches, 15 minutes from the very pretty town, Narbonne, an hour from Montpelier and a little more to Toulouse. It is also very close (twenty minutes) to the Corbieres and the Cathar castles. As an area it is still quite unexplored and very beautiful. The French themselves love it as a holiday destination. It is also very easily accessible with several airports close by, excellent rail links and easy and great roads. You can get to Spain in an hour if you fancy, and Barcelona is two hours away on the high speed train.|
|Unique benefits of property||My property is unusual in that it is in a pretty village right next to the Canal du Midi, with a lovely ambience and views. The village has restaurants, and little gallery shops, and with the boats drifting by there is always something to watch. The garden with pool is completely private and away from it all. My guests always absolutely love it!|
Lovely local restaurant
We stayed in the main house (there's also a smaller apartment I think). Although there were just two of us, the house is certainly big enough to hold a much larger party. The rooms are very spacious, relaxed and comfortable and the house has been modernised with great care. There is huge living space and an excellent kitchen and we were delighted to find helpful things like olive oil, condiments, etc to assist the cooking. Behind the house is a large, private back garden with a fine, shared swimming pool. In front there is a kind of gravel area with table etc. The grounds we thought looked a bit neglected.
The house is right in the centre of Le Somail, and overlooks the Canal du Midi. There are several good restaurants in the village, varied in price and offerings, and some small shopping amenities. A fabulous used book-shop is an essential visit. There's a very large supermarket about 2 minutes away by car. Despite the central location, the house was very quiet after about 9 or 10 in the evening. The canal also offers walks, bike rides, boat trips etc.
unfortunately, when we were there (in early May) the weather was terrible: cold winds, thunder-storms, and hail-stones. This forced us indoors but as the house is very spacious, this was no great hardship. We could dine indoors and still watch the world go by outside. We missed having access to live television, although WIFI and dvds partly made up for that.
We would definitely consider a return trip.
thank you for your review, and we are very glad that you enjoyed your stay. I must admit I was
a little surprised at your comment on the grounds as we put in so very much hard work, they are usually sparkling. I think perhaps the unusually bad January to May weather was against us this year - it hindered general garden work and everything grew much more than usual! We are quite proud of our space and have ordered new garden furniture to complement it for the summer - hope you can come back and see it!
