About this property

Charming Family Friendly Luxurious Gite with Pool. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Maison de La Roche is in the heart of Ferrals les Corbieres, a rural village, in the Aude within Occitanie (formerly known as the Languedoc Roussillon.) We offer an intimate yet child friendly nest of 3 luxury holiday apartments close to all amenities in the glorious South of France. They may be booked together or individually. Off season they can be rented by the night for those seeking a midweek break or househunters.

Maison de la Roche, a former wine domain which had been neglected for several years was bought by us, in the summer of 2007. We had decided to leave London after 20 years to seek a different lifestyle and find more space, family time and room to breathe! The idea being to renovate the original house and one of the barns into a spacious family home and to turn the other 2 barns into gites, a workshop and studio.

With lots of attention to detail, a love of working with recyclable materials and sourcing as much of the wood and stone that was on the property as possible, we have now lovingly renovated and restored the barns to become 3 welcoming, and luxurious apartments, in-keeping with the style of the original buildings. Suffice to say, we realised that one of the first priorities was to put in a swimming pool (that can be heated to extend the season) and this was completed early in the summer of 2008.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Ms Honor Davis-Marks

Myself and daughter Holly live in this old French farmhouse with our huge fluffy but very gentle dog Bob. Living on-site means that we can keep you upto date with all the activities and local events going on to ensure that you can really get the most out of your holiday. Happy to organise anything from wine tasting to kayaking!

Year property purchased 2007
Why this location? Superb access to airports/motorways/beach/rivers/lakes/cathar castles/medieval towns (Carcassonne), Roman towns (Narbonne), beautiful villages (Lagrasse, Minerve), great walking, cycling and surrounded by vineyards so if you like wine you are in the right place. We are in a quiet village with one very smart restaurant and a tapas bar and grill which holds fabulous soirees in the summer often with live music. Ferrals is a very authentic village so you can really enjoy village life, walking to the boulangerie every day to collect your chocolatines, sipping a glass of Rosé with the locals at the bar.
Unique benefits of property Me!! Well in addition to the heated pool, fluffy friendly dog (not allowed in your gite!), large spacious but luxurious gites, I can organise anything you want from wine and tapas tastings and tours, in house beauty treatments, cookery courses, bike hire - and just give you the best recommendations as to where to go and where to eat!

The Owner Recommends

The Must Visit Places

Number one on my list is Carcassonne, a stunning fortified medieval town just 30 minutes from the gites. I love Lagrasse (named as one of 'The most beautiful villages in France') charming and full of restaurants, it also has an Abbey and Monastery which you can visit. Ribaute which is a five minute drive is a stunning river where you can swim and play in the little waterfalls. The Cathar Castles many within an hour's drive are totally worth the effort and will leave you speechless. The mediterranean beaches just 35 minutes away are so long you never feel crowded (I know a great beach restaurant too). We are lucky enough to be surrounded by several Michelin star restaurants but there are some fab restaurants to suit all budgets. Happy to book for you. If you enjoy cycling then there are plenty of trails and my local hire company can equip you with all the information you need.... the list goes on
