Woodburner and electric central heating. Although, it is unusual that they are used. The cottage is built of local stone and keeps remarkably cool in the heat of summer.
The local town of Limoux 7km away has plenty of interest, from local fetes and carnivals to markets and antique fairs or boot sales.
Pretty courtyard style garden with many mature shrubs and a fig tree. Large dining area under the first floor terrace. Fully enclosed and private, a real sun trap. Bbq and did we mention the jacuzzi?
Undercover cover parking for 1 car. There is also a public car park just across the bridge for the Abby, which is free to use.
There are stairs to the first floor and so would not be suitable for someone with very limited mobility.
We love living in this corner of the true south of France and really enjoy sharing it with our guests. We live about 30 mins from the house and we are always on hand should you need us, but also very respectful of your privacy.

This cottage offers a comfortable base to explore stunning, mysterious and ancient lands which nestle between the Pyrenees and the Montagne Noir. Ideal for exploring the local vineyards, Cathar castles or take a pleasant stroll through gentle rolling countryside. For the more adventurous, try white water rafting, canyoning, rock climbing, mountain biking and hill walking. Then all come together for a trip to the Mediterranean to enjoy all the delights of the seaside resorts (approx an hour and 30 mins drive away), or take a boat trip on the serene and tree lined Canal du Midi. The region is a foodies paradise, with the local dishes of Cassoulet (created at Castelnaudary and featured by Rick Stein in his Oddysey) and Fricasee (from Limoux) not to be missed.

When you are rested and ready to hit the town, lively Limoux, with it's bars and restaurants, renowned not only for it's delicious bubbly, but also for it's fetes, music and street parties, is less than 5 mins drive.
On the ground floor is a well equipped kitchen diner, a cosy sitting room overlooking the garden and a wc. Upstairs you will find 2 good sized double bedrooms, 1 with access to sun terrace with lovely views over the river and towards the ancient Abby ruins. The first floor also has a luxury bathroom complete with jacuzzi bath and separate shower.
Outside, is a delightful riverside garden and jacuzzi, and undercover private parking for one car.
Visit the famous UNESCO world heritage site of Carcassonne medieval city. Take a tour of the ramparts, visit several museums, browse the many interesting and unique shops within the castle walls and then sit relax and watch the world go by in one of the lovely restaurants. Once you have seen the castle, take a walk or a boat trip on the beautiful Canal du Midi.
There are many activities of the more adventurous such as whitewater rafting, assault courses through the tree tops, climbing, quad bike safaris or canyoning. The area has many caves which are worth exploring, ranging from tourist attractions through to some quite challenging expeditions. Walking hiking and cycling routes for all levels.
The village is surrounded by vineyards and wineries. You have the choice of following local wine trails around Limoux, where the famous sparkling wines are made or the lesser known but increasing more appreciated wines of the Malepere. Drive just to the east and you come across the famous areas of the Corbière or Minervois.
One of our favourites is a Segway tour of the vines which is just 20 minutes away by car.
The town of Limoux is a lively place, known locally as the party capital of the region as it host many fetes and festivals throughout the year. It is also home to an ancient and delicious sparkling wine. The main square has several restaurants, ranging in price from simple bistrots to fine dining. There is always something interesting going on here.
