About this property

Large Studio Apartment Set in Walled Garden. . This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

Holidays in Lagrasse situated within the walls of the village offers visitors a relaxed, peaceful & historic holiday experience. Guy and Claire provide a warm welcome and are on hand to provide advice or suggestions on where to visit.

During loving renovation, the house unveiled many historic secrets associated with the Cathars. There are 15 authentic stone arches scattered throughout the property and various 13th century paintings. The latter are currently under restoration with the first paintings unveiled in the village Maison du Patrimone (September 2014) revealing 20 chevaliers including one that depicts the coat of arms for Simon de Montfort who was hated in the Languedoc for his cruelty and ambition towards the Cathars - you are sure to feel you have taken a step back in time! However, with all mod cons and a comfortable feel to the living accommodation in the self catering gîte, it is history at its best! With arguably the most spectacular façade in the village, Neuf Rue de Cancans really is a gem nestled within the cobbled streets of a village voted 'One of Frances Prettiest.'

The Garden Studio so called for its easy access straight into the garden, offers the perfect chance to enjoy comfortable French living with all mod cons. With a log burner for cooler months and large glass patio doors, this is a wonderful retreat throughout the year.

The Garden Studio entered through the glass patio doors from the garden has a fully equipped fitted kitchen, and a dining area with delightful views back into the garden. An imposing archway leads into the lounge with its comfortable furniture, a log burner and a front door for easy access to the village. At the other end of this spacious room and under the original wooden beams is the sleeping area. With clever design and furniture placement, although actually one large room, this feels like 2 separate areas.

The sleeping area has a king size double bed (can be made into twin beds to suit all requirements), chest of drawers and a wardrobe for all your storage. A shower room leads off this end of the room, with a large fully tiled Italian walk-in shower, wc and vanity unit.

During renovation the plans were drawn up to make this a one-bedroom apartment but when demolition work unearthed a beautiful hidden stone arch and numerous wooden beams we decided we simply couldn’t cover any of these features up with a wall and so the Garden Studio was born!

The Studio has free wi-fi (18MB) and has a mobile A/C unit.

The Garden Studio is on one level and is ideal for persons with limited mobility; unfortunately the bathroom door is not wide enough to fit a wheelchair although fits a travel commode chair.

The Studio also includes access to the communal garden. The garden contains 3 x bbq areas, a pizza oven, 5 terraces, a grassy lawn and to top it all off a solar heated swimming pool with decked area. All of this is nestled within the original medieval stonewalls of our courtyard providing secluded privacy from the outside world.

We provide: free wi-fi internet, bed linen plus tea towels and bath towels. Laundry facilities are on-site. Cooler bags, ice packs etc are available for the days you would like to take a picnic. We can arrange holistic treatments, wine tasting, painting courses and for those feeling more energetic guided walking is available through the local countryside and bike hire can easily be arranged. For those of you bringing your own bikes we have plenty of secure space on-site.

Holidays in Lagrasse is an ideal solution for friends and family looking to holiday together but wanting their own space as we have 4 other gites, The Grenier Apartment, the Arch Apartment, the Pool View Studio and our newest addition the Terrace Apartment. The latter 2 have their own private terraces.

Our reviews are excellent so why not search 'Holidays in Lagrasse' to view the comments from our past clients who describe the activities and the high standard of service that we provide. We have been awarded Certificate of Excellence since 2015.

Will consider: long term lets and short breaks.

We are open all year round.

The Owner Recommends

The reasons why Lagrasse and surrounding area is a must.

Lagrasse is an ideal base from which to explore the local history and architecture.

For those wanting a truly relaxing French village experience there is the pretty beach on the river Orbieu which is only a stone's throw away through the cobbled streets. Superb fishing is also found on this river with the Canal de Midi close by, tranquil boat trips are a must. Wonderful walks can be found in and around the village. Cycling is a fun way to explore the cobbled streets & surrounding areas. The Tour de France passes nearby each year on-route to the Pyrennees! Within easy driving distance you will also find a myriad of Cathar castles from the Albigensian crusades of the early 13th century on hilltops, fortified cathedrals at Albi, Bezier and Capestang, Abbeys galore and the exciting cosmopolitan cities of Toulouse and Montpellier.

A 2 minute stroll up the main street will bring you to the tennis courts, football & boules pitches. Sailing & windsurfing can be found 30 minutes drive away. Skiing is approximately 2 hours away.

The beautiful beaches of Leucate, Gruissan, Port Leucate and La Franqui are located approximately 35 minutes drive away with a variety of activities to occupy the more sporty or we can direct you to those ‘off the beaten track’ restaurants where you can sample the delights of fresh seafood.

There are 2 fun aqua parks located within an hour of the house and a pirate theme park in Gruissan. In Carcassonne and Leucate there are the O2 Aventura Parcs where older children and adults can test their climbing skills - and their head for heights - in the tree top adventure park. In Sigean there is an African Safari Park which plays host - to amongst other things - elephants, lions and rhino.

Lagrasse & surrounding area provide a unique environment for enjoying.

We had a week in the Garden Studio which is part of a larger renovated medieval building and walled garden where there are 2 studios and 3 apartments in an informal setting with space for all guests to enjoy the garden and pool as well as having some private outside space. The venue was as described and exceeded my expectations.
The gardens and apartments have been thoughtfully planned to provide comfortable and attractive accommodation, inside and out, with everything presented to a very high standard. Guy and Claire are exceptional hosts and made local reservations for us, as well as suggesting things we might like to do and where we could get our car air conditioning fixed. Lagrasse is a beautifully kept village with much interesting history and a rich cultural life. There are a number of bars and restaurants, a great boulangerie,an ATM, small shop, and quality local wines to taste and buy all within the village, as well as lovely local walks. The Garden Studio was ideal for us: we wanted pleasant surroundings in a nice setting in the Langeudoc-Roussillon region, with the ability to self cater, eat out with ease and use our car to explore further afield. We got exactly that, and we would go back again without a second thought and have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family.
