|Year property purchased||2016|
|Why this location?||Quite simply, it was the stunning view! We saw through the gates of this property when we first came here house hunting in 2008, but it wasn't for sale. As luck would have it we had agreed to sell our previous home and b&b in 2016 and the house came on the market. We didn't even look at any other houses and bought it immediately. Renovations took place throughout 2017 and we opened for guests in 2018.|
|Unique benefits of property||A special place for just two to four guests, with all the luxuries of home and maybe a little bit more. A fabulous view, a private pool, a well-equipped kitchen and the advantage of not having to share with others.
Welcome to our cottage/gite!
La Bastide Saint-Louis, Carcassonne - situated on the left bank of the River Aude, the Bastide was built in a rectangular plan laid out around the central square of Place Carnot. Nowadays the Bastide, delimited by the boulevards laid out in the XVIIIth and XIXth centuries on the site of the old moats, has retained its chequerboard arrangement of streets and boasts a remarkable architectural heritage. On the right bank of the river, discover the ramparts and the château in the heart of the fortified city, "La Cité" and walk around its 3km of walls with 52 towers and barbicans, designed to prevent attack.
Lots of places are closed or quiet on a Monday, but not Mirepoix; it's market day! Mirepoix is a small stunning medieval town and a great place to visit whilst exploring the Aude and Ariege regions. The town has a good selection of restaurants, boulangerie's and cafés. Just 20 minutes drive away from us it's a lovely place to while away a few hours taking in French life.
Another well-established market town on the banks of the River Aude. Market day here is on Friday, and during summer there is a Tuesday evening market, with food stalls and live music. During January to March, the bizarre Carnavale de Limoux takes place each weekend around the La Place de la Republique - definitely worth a visit.
Leisure cruises for a half or whole day are available from the canal basin in Carcassonne or Homps. Alternatively join the canal towpath at nearby Bram to enjoy a shady cycle ride or leisurely walk. A delightful 'pop-up' restaurant is open at the lock in Bram during summer months, May-August.
