About this property

A Comfortable, Rural, 3 Bedroomed Apartment.. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

This spacious 3 bedroom self-catering holiday apartment on the ground floor of our own home sleeps up to 6 and is ideal for families, couples or small groups looking for a relaxing vacation or activity/skiing break in the south west of France.
It is situated in a tiny hamlet that was once a Contemporary Arts Centre and the artists involved created a wonderful quirky environment.

The courtyard is totally unique, all the furniture was hand carved for the courtyard and gives a truly Mediterranean feel to the property as well as giving us our name, ‘The Olive Tree Courtyard’.

As well as the Courtyard the property also has a garden and a patio with a stone-built barbecue next to the garden, shared with the owners. Enjoy a splendid relaxed lunch in the courtyard and end your day on the terrace with a glass of wine. The house also contains our studios for jewellery making, fused glass and photography so if you’d like a half day taster session please contact us to discuss the possibilities.

There is parking for a single car and space to store bicycles securely. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available for use, as is an iron and ironing board (should you feel the need). For families with young children, please be aware the garden space is not enclosed.

For mobility-impaired guests we apologise but due to the number of steps to the apartment (see photos) it may be difficult to access for you even though the whole apartment is on one floor once you are inside. However, we would be very happy to welcome you should you feel you are able to manage them.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Yoke van de Graaf

I moved to France with my husband when the opportunity arose to start a new adventure. Leaving behind our desk jobs we bought this beautiful property with lots of studio space so we could pursue our artistic inclinations, making jewellery, drawing, photography, fused glass and lampwork, surrounded by the countryside and wildlife we love.

Year property purchased 2018
Why this location? We fell in love with the house on the estate agent's website and when we came to view it the atmosphere of creativity and calm sealed the deal. The hamlet is very quiet yet within easy reach of amenities, with cycling, walking and amazing wildlife on the doorstep.
Many activities, including rafting, riding, skiing and the sea are within driving distance. The fascinating history of this area, so important to the spirit of all of France is evidenced in the many castles, monuments and towns which surround us. The Aude has a fantastic climate with up to 300 days of sunshine per year and each season has its own wonders to discover. This place really has it all!
Unique benefits of property La Cour de l'Oliver is tucked away in a pocket of peace yet activity and adventure are within easy reach. The apartment is part of our home, cosy and comfortable. As we live upstairs we are always available should you need any advice, directions or help. If you would like to try your hand at jewellery making or glass fusing, studio time can be arranged; please feel free to contact me by email or phone.

The Owner Recommends

Mirepoix

This beautiful, historic market town is only 20 minutes' drive away. It hosts one of our favourite markets every Monday morning where you can buy almost anything you need in its glorious medieval town square, then enjoy lunch in one of the many delightful restaurants before exploring the little lanes full of interesting shops and galleries.

Chalabre

Our nearest town: a few minutes drive or 20 minutes by bike (or an hour or so to walk) along the Voie Vert, Chalbre has a Post Office, bars, restaurants and a variety of shops and a market on Saturdays. The Chateau is open to the public and hosts events including medieval festivals, please see their website for details.

The Lac de Montbel

Within walking distance of the gite, the site of the lake covers 570 hectares and offers fishing, swimming, sailing, canoe and pedalo hire. There are 2 manmade beaches with a restaurant at each. The lake itself is surrounded by woodland and fields laced with footpaths so you can enjoy the wonderful diversity of habitats and wildlife. There is also a marked cycle path which is part of the network of national cycle routes.
