We (Chris and Alison) stumbled across the beautiful, but neglected Chateau du Fraissinet in 2002 and decided to move in straight away with our children. It was a real adventure. Since then we have been renovating, updating and caring for this ancient property. Chris, trained in the building trade, has been able to do all the work himself which has ensured everything is finished to a high standard. We both love welcoming guests and sharing our lovely home, the birdsong, the river and the space.

|Why this location?||The Château du Fraissinet is located in the foothills of the wild and beautiful Cévennes mountains - a UNESCO heritage site. To the north the mountains stretch for miles offering walking, kayaking, birds and the emptiness of real nature. To the south there are bustling market towns with shops and cafés, vineyards and Roman monuments. Nimes arena and the Pont du Gard are only an hour away. We are also only just over an hour from stunning Mediterranean beaches. Château du Fraissinet offers guests a real get away from it all experience without being isolated.
Close by (2km) the Lac de Camboux offers swimming, kayaking, stand up paddle boards and pedalos. Further afield (30mins) there are forest parks and rivers to kayak. And if guests fancy a lazy day then messing about in the pool or the river that runs across the bottom of the Château park is a wonderful way to spend it.
We are also easy to reach - the nearest airports are Nimes and Montpellier with flights by Ryanair and Easyjet.
|Unique benefits of property||Chateau du Fraissinet is set in 6 acres of beautiful grounds with the river Gardon running along the bottom. The river is perfect for swimming, fishing with rods or nets, or messing about in a dinghy. There is a stunning pool 11m x 5m plus additional small pools for simply sitting and enjoying the flow of the water. The smaller pools and the stream are great for younger children. The water is refilled every year from the source and treated by bio UV to keep chemicals to a minimum. Table tennis in the shade of the ancient plane trees is another option and everyone loves to make friends with the donkeys, Lily and Daisy.
There are 6 gites at the Château and the Sunday evening apéritif (drinks and nibbles) means everyone quickly gets to meet their fellow guests and their hosts.
There is a choice of a restaurant and two bars within easy walking distance if guests don't fancy cooking. The Château is perfect for lazy days and if you fancy going out you are spoilt for choice!
Great local market (5km) with fresh local produce including local cheeses, honey, eggs, vegetables and much more.
Stunning lake (2km) with kayaking, pedalos and stand up paddle boards to hire. Also swimming and fishing from the lake beach a little bit further down.
Roman Aqueduct. Incredible Roman monument (UNESCO world Heritage site) featured on the 5 euro note. Excellent museum and visitor centre. River Gardon flows underneath with is great for bathing and picnics. 1 hour drive
Bustling town full of history with stunning Roman Arena, Roman Maison Carré and Jardins de la Fontaine. Also shops, bars and cafés. Must visit!
Gentle but fun kayaking suitable for children with lots of places to stop for picnics and/or a swim
Up in the Cévennes mountains this kayaking overs a great day out. Amazing views and enough 'rapids' to keep the teenagers happy! nearby Florac is worth a visit too.
Beautiful cave with stalactites and stalagmites
Swing through the trees on zip wires and ropes. Lots of different levels for kids and adults. (30mins)
Reproduction (original nearby) of this prehistoric cave over 20,000 years old (really!) Cave paintings and bear holes together with 'life-size' models of woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers. Gives an idea of what it might have been like to live on earth all those centuries ago.
Great fun with open or closed carriages and wonderful views. Stops at St Jean du Gard for lunch (35mins)
Unique in Europe. Exotic garden of bamboos and other trees. There is also a maze and a shop with bamboo and planet-friendly products. Very calm, cool and relaxing.
