|Why this location?||We had very specific criteria for our French holiday home, we wanted to be on the edge of a village, in the lower hills of the garrigue, not far to go to the coast in one direction and the Herault gorges in the other. When we saw La Cardabelle we knew it ticked all the boxes and we did not hesitate to put in an offer that same day. We have peace and tranquillity but can be in the centre of activity and buzz after a short drive. The medieval village has a little shop and bar run by the inhabitants of the village for the village and we get our daily bread and croissants there and our evening aperitif on the terrace under shade trees. Driving our of the village you pass the tennis court (available to our guests) and you may spot the small goat herd with their shepherdess.|
|Unique benefits of property||We obviously love the house and over time have really turned it into a home from home with original paintings on the walls and colour co ordinated bedrooms. The pool area is lovely and private, and for us as grandparents and owners we have the peace of mind knowing that small children cannot get into this area without an adult, the pool is surrounded by a rustic fence and a double handed gate, as approved under French Government law. When we bought the house the gardens were already well established by the previous owners, with olive and other fruit trees, rosemary bushes and other herbs such as sage and mint and of course lavenders and laurier roses (oleanders) which are numerous.
We truly feel blessed when we lie by the pool at night looking up at the thousands of stars above us.
Relax on the beautiful local beaches and soak up the atmosphere and sun.
Visit Meze with its numerous seafood restaurants and relax on the child friendly beach until the sun goes down.
You will find markets every day of the week, our favourites are Pezenas and Gignac on Saturdays and Clermont l'Herault every wednesday
If you like olive oil, and who doesn't then a trip to the co operative shop in Clermont l'Herault is a must, lots of different flavour oils to try plus lovely products to buy, I stock up for Christmas presents here.
10 minutes from the villa, La Ferme du Dolmen, there are lots of animals and birds to see and pet, your little one can have a pony ride too, very reasonably priced, we always make sure we visit when our grandson is staying , he loves it there!
5 minutes from the villa is the Equi-p Domaine Equestre, we have clients whose children use this pony club whenever they stay at the house and they say it is very good.
Le 3 Fontaines domaine Equestre is 10 minutes away, we always buy extra carrots and go and feed the 'little fat ponies'
A wonderful day out, take a picnic with you and meander through the beautiful scenery.
There are a number of companies that offer this service but get your canoes at St. Guihem le Desert, if you have the energy you can spend the evening in this most beautiful hill top village, a favourite of ours.
On the way to St Guilhem le desert, well worth a visit
Beautiful historical building and grounds
Visit the nine locks of Fonseranes, really quite amazing, watch the boats manoeuvre their way through these nine locks, then visit the beautiful Bezier Cathedral afterwards, a full day out
On your way to Pezenas you will pass through St Pons, drive to the top and walk through the archway to the top of the ancient church and enjoy the views.
There are caves situated all around us and you are expected to taste before you buy, our local is Vignerons de la Vicomte, we buy our rose wine from here it is very good, they have been supplying wine to Marks and Spencers for many years.
The Domaine Paul Mas is certainly worth a visit, and you can buy their wine at Sainsburys and Waitrose and many other outlets.
Local wine from Mas de Lunes, grapes grown in our village, can be bought at the local bar and is very good indeed.
Really too many to mention but a few are as follows:
Lac Salagou, you can hire windsurfers, canoes and paddle boats, take a picnic and and enjoy the stunning scenery.
Drive through the petite Carmarge on your way to Aigues Mortes
Montpellier, the majestic capital of the Languedoc
Meze, we love it, spend time on the beach and then walk back into the harbour area and pick a restaurant for dinner
There are also water parks, a Dinosaur Park at Meze, Zoos, Aquarium at Montpellier, really lots to do in the area....if you can drag yourself away from the swimming pool!
Hi we stayed here for 10 days.We would highly recommend it. Pauline and Tom couldn't do enough for you as we are a family of 7 we had everything we needed in the house. Its the perfect location for site seeing or if you want to relax by the pool have a bbq and do nothing but read a book it's perfect. Kids and adults had hours of fun in pool. The house is clean and well equipped. Cabril is small and quaint and locals are lovely. Hopefully some day we will get to return. We would highly recommend this property to young and old.
Visiting for the 2nd time. The villa itself is as described - a gorgeous place, a clean well cared for home from home. Facilities good & plenty of space for 2 families to spend time together. Pool is a good size, safe - pool toys & other things (including Boules) around the house a bonus for keeping kids of all ages amused. So a really nice place to be on days you don't fancy going out.
Location is perfect if you want somewhere quiet surrounded by beautiful scenery but a 2 min walk into the village to pick up croissants or have pre-dinner drinks. But many other small villages nearby to explore & main supermarkets about 15min drive away.
Communication & booking with the owners very smooth - especially helpful answering questions & giving great suggestions. Housekeeper & local agent really helpful when needed.
The mezzanine did get especially hot but even at the end of this year's heat wave, well positioned fans in all the bedrooms & using the pool kept us cool.
We still only touched the surface of things to do & see. Lots for all ages (we were 4 adults, with 6,10,12 yr olds). Highlights were: Gignac market, Plaissan night market, Herault canoeing, climbing Beziers Cathedral, St Guilhem Le Desert, Marseillan Plage, Meze, Montepellier, Millau viaduct & La Courvertoirade, Nimes, Pont Du Gard not to forget lots of places to try & buy local wine & lots of ice cream.
Thank you once again for allowing us to use your villa - so many lovely memories taken home once again!
La Cardabelle is as lovely as the brochure pictures suggest. The house itself looks small from the outside, but is actually very spacious, and easily accommodated a family of 5 adults/teenagers. The accommodation is traditional, without being dated, and it is obviously a much-loved family holiday home.
The gardens are beautiful and have multiple areas to sit, eat, play boules or just wander. The large pool is clean and there are plenty of recliners. There is a large and very good stone BBQ. The wifi is good and there is a Google chrome-cast that works with the large Smart-TV.
The village is small and quintessentially French, with a small square outside the grocery shop where locals and the village dog gather for wine and a natter. You will be made to feel most welcome.
The surrounding area is stunning - our first time there - and we followed most of the recommendations in the tourist guides and the guest book. Definitely go to Meze for an evening meal, and to the caves and the lake.
Overall, La Cardabelle was a perfect French retreat and we will go again.
Had a fantastic time with our family, and partners. Villa had everything we could ask for very spacious, home from home, beautiful gardens, lots of quiet areas for individual quiet time, and gorgeous pool . Must visit the local shop and bar which is only a couple of minutes walk from the Villa locals very very friendly. Beautiful part of France especially Pezenas, Sete, St. Guilhem le Desert a must, The Clamouse Caves are also well worth a visit, after tour here had ended we walked along the road and had a had a lovely picnic. We had an absolutely beautiful meal in Belgara "Chez Mamie", lovely staff, the owner speaks English so it was reassuring to tell her that I am Coeliac (gluten free) and she understood what this meant. Really good value, wished we had found this in our first week as we would defiantly had paid them another visit. Thank you to the lovely lady who greeted us all when we arrived at the Villa and made us all feel very welcome, lovely knowing that she lived across the road and that she could be contacted at any time. But most of all a big thank you to Pauline and and Thomas for allowing us to stay in your beautiful Villa and allowing us to explore this beautiful part of France. Would definitely recommend a stay.
