|Why this location?||The Minervois is one of France's best-kept secrets. Located 25km inland from the Mediterranean, we have a great climate and fabulous scenery with so much to see and do. Carcassonne is only only 30 minutes away and the beautiful, historic village of Minerve is less than 10. If you like food and wine you will be very happy in the Minervois with great wines made by local producers, markets and a wide variety of restaurants. This is a great area for walking, cycling, sightseeing and relaxing.|
|Unique benefits of property||We are in open countryside, surrounded by vineyards with lots of space and fabulous views but only 1km from our village Azillanet and only 3km from Olonzac, the heart of the Minervois region. Most of our guests combine some sightseeing with a great deal of relaxation and the odd trip to local bars and restaurants.
Our property was originally used as a barn and temporary accommodation by the local winegrowers. We undertook a complete renovation meaning that our accommodation is modern and fitted-out to a high standard with everything you could need for your holiday.
Although the apartments is part of our house, it is independently accessed and has a large private terrace for outdoor eating and sunbathing. This leads to our large garden and shared swimming pool.
In short, there's everything you need for a great french holiday!
Carcassonne is one of France's top tourist attractions with its famous medieval citadel - La Cité. A visit is normally high on our guests' agenda.
Every Tuesday morning locals and tourists descend on Olonzac for the weekly market. There are lots of stalls on the main streets of the town but local produce is always the favourite with seasonal fruit and vegetables plus cheese, sausage, olives, honey.......
We are surrounded by vineyards in the heart of the Minervois wine region. Minervois is principally known for its red wines but there are also plenty of nice rosés and the odd white.
If you like a chilled glass of fizz, we are also close to Limoux where they started producing banquette years before Champagne nicked the idea. Tastes great and much better value than its northern cousin.
We'll happily point you in the right direction if you want to buy or taste but can also organise tours with english-speaking wine experts if you want.
The Minervois and beyond is a great area for walking with something to suits everyone starting from vineyard paths from our house.
If you prefer cycling, we can put you in touch with a local hire company who will deliver to your door.
We are only a 5 minute drive from the historic canal - now a world heritage site. Guided trips and boat hire are both available locally.
