Discover this beautiful stone country house, hidden in the hills above the village with views over the surrounding countryside. This large, spacious home is ideal for those of you who want to be left alone - secluded in the privacy of your own surroundings, just to simply enjoy, relax, be creative or take time out. It has every comfort you'd expect, with 4 fully-equipped bedrooms.Changeover days are Friday, Saturday or Sundays.

Le Gandil has plenty of space. The main house has a welcoming and comfortable living room with open fire place. Large kitchen with a full range (for cooking for the crowds) and a separate dining room off the kitchen.
Perfect for entertaining - or swimming
The outside area is magnificent, with plenty of terraces with seating for lazing around in the shade, taking your morning coffee, enjoying evening drinks or dining under the trees. You can even swim in the large pool in tranquil surroundings.
In the summer, the owners take their meals at the table in the covered porch just outside the main front door. There is seating for 8, with a combination of stone benches and chairs with cushions, a large cane chair and four wooden ones. there are canvas picnic chairs for sitting on the adjacent elevated terrace in front of the house.
It's peaceful, simple rural charm. This is la France Profonde after all!
But above all it is the most astoundingly beautiful place, right in the heart of nature.
Family accommodation or inspiring silence...
This house lends itself to larger families or groups who need plenty of space. It is also ideal for musicians and writers who may need time to write and/or refresh the batteries (we've had famous musicians stay here before)
The house is secured with large gates at the entrance - and has a long driveway with plenty of parking.
You'll need a car
Guests need to be aware that this house is secluded and situated up a steep hill accessible via a dirt track road. Private transport is therefore highly advisable, but no low slung cars. the nearest village is approx 5 minutes by car.

Laundry, towels and final cleaning is included. For longer stays you can request our laundry services midway through your holiday at an extra cost. Don't forget we can arrange food and even a private chef via our concierge services - please don't hesitate to ask
Local attractions and facilities
The Languedoc-Roussillon region is full of history, culture and attractions.
With picturesque villages, fabulous local cuisine, excellent wines and glorious countryside, it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the pleasures of life. Exactly what one should be doing whilst on holiday!
Vieussan sits on a peninsula around which flows the River Orb, surrounded by wooded mountains. Other local villages have a huge variety of attractions
There are wine and (in summer) vegetable outlets in Vieussan. The bakery and other shops are in the nearby village of Mons La Trivalle (7 minutes drive). The other direction down the valley is Roquebrun (10 mins) which has a fine Mediterranean Garden, 2 great restaurants, as well as a wine bar, a grocery store, a bar, newsagent, Pizzeria and baker.
The nearest market is on Tuesdays at Lamalou-les-Bains (15 minutes) and there are others every day of the week in neighbouring towns, while there are large Hypermarché a few kilometers in most directions.
Mountains, hills and gorges provide wonderful walking - and birdwatching. It's just 40-45 minutes to the historic towns of Béziers and Pézenas. And don't forget that the Mediterranean is just an hour away.Guests need to be aware that this house is secluded and situated up a steep hill with a dirt track road. The country style kitchen is spacious and very well equipped for making fabulous meals for a group. You can also hire a chef id required.
There is a separate dining room for colder months and also furnished terraces for outside dining;
There is dishwasher, coffee machine, pots and pans etc.
There are 2 living rooms
The first is the small snug with woodburner and cosy seating for 4 - 6 people/
The second lounge is large with 2 large sofas. and a TV.
Lots of bedrooms
The main part of the house has an en-suite master bedroom, laundry room and storage room. You make your way upstairs to a second, huge, living room with plenty of space for everyone. From this living space you go up some wooden stairs to another spacious bedroom with a single bed and a further mattress (or bed).
The second part of the house - the guest wing, has 2 further double bedrooms each with en-suite shower rooms, each distinctively decorated. One of the bedrooms leads out onto a terrace with table and chairs and the other onto the garden through french doors.
The Master en suite is spacious and has a roll top bath and everything you'd expect from a cosy country bathroom. There is a hairdryer in here too.

The family bathroom is situated off the small lounge and can be used by the Twin bedroom.
Central heating and woodburning stoves
Peace is the optimal word here! There is a TV with Uk sky and you can watch Dvd's but we have no internet at the house.The house does receive mobile phone signals though so you can browse from your phone.
The nature is the entertainment here.
If you would like to organise " an evening of music " or something special - maybe a french accordionist to really get into the feel of things - we will see what we can do!
The pool of course!
There are large gardens, plenty of space, little corners to hide away in, the pool and plenty of parking space.
There are terraces along the house also with places for you to relax on your own or with the group.
There is a washing line at the back of the property.
Parking on site for 2 - 4 cars.
We welcome anyone who is respectful of the property and its surroundings.
This really would suit retreat based groups, families, or friends together.
Please be aware that there are some stairs to the master bedroom and twin room. The stairs are small stone so may not be suitable for unstable people. Also if children were using the twin room it is upstairs from the lounge and almost on its own so may not be suitable for younger children.
The property has stone steps to the pool area, terraces and inside the house.
Drivers need to be confident as it is up a steep rocky hill - which is easy if you take it slowly - but we imagine that if you are driving in France you will be okay. Please be aware the road is not suitable for low slung cars such as sports cars.
Additional services can be provided from our concierge which include heat and serve meals, private chef, a wine tasting box to give you an idea of some of the local wines before you go out, bbq pack, massage and beauty treatments, hairdresser. musicians, sketching activities on Thursdays.
There is a washing machine, ironing board and Iron. Also a haridryer in the master bathroom.
I have lived in this region for 10 years now and absolutely love the scenery, the nature the rivers. There is so much to do here and the views sill blow me away everyday! I will be on hand during your stay if you need anything:;

Walk up the gorges, jump in the pools and waterfalls in summer.
Gorge de Columbier is more rugged and wild, and D'Heric has an easy walking path and cafe at the start and finish. Beautiful.
There are 2 kayak centers near the house - one in Roquebrun and one in Tarrassac;
Both offer a great day out on the river.
There are wine tours in every village but we can wholeheartedly recommend Le Vielle Chai in Ceps. Its informative, historical and Sophie can do the tour English. Learn about the grape, the process, the olive trees, the different vines, and of course tasting!
