About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Andreas Wagner

I fell in love with the village during my first visit and vowed to come back. I did, six months later, and bought the house. I decided early on to allow visitors to experience the magic of Saint-Chinian!

Year property purchased 1992
Why this location? Saint-Chinian still ticks all the boxes - a great market on Thursdays and Sundays, all the services you could want in walking distance, and a good selection of restaurants to boot. Everything is in striking distance from Saint-Chinian, beaches, mountains, sightseeing, winetasting....
Unique benefits of property A comfortable property with plenty of old-world charm in a great location.

The Owner Recommends

Eating out

Saint-Chinian has five restaurants, all along the main road and only a short walk from the house. Excellent restaurants can be found all over the area in neighbouring villages and larger towns. I've put together a restaurant guide, which is in the welcome folder at the house.

There are several secluded spots for taking a dip in the river, just outside the village. Larger river beaches can be found in Cessenon (10 minutes away) and in Roquebrun (20 minutes away). The closest beach on the Mediterranean coast is Valras Plage, about 40 minutes away from Saint-Chinian.

Walking / Hiking

The immediate area around Saint-Chinian offers a wealth of opportunities for walking. Several circular walks start from the village, and there are many marked walks close by. For more serious mountain climbing, there is Mont Caroux, which offers several different possibilities to the top.

Canoeing / Kayaking

Canoeing and Kayaking is popular on the Orb River, and there are two boatyards to choose from where you can hire a boat along with all the necessary gear. One is situated in Roquebrun, the other in Reals - both are in very easy striking distance from Saint-Chinian and offer a great day out!

Wine tasting

The Saint-Chinian area is a paradise for wine-lovers! The village itself has five wine shops: The Maison des Vins is the showcase for AOC Saint-Chinian wines; the Espace Vin stocks many Saint-Chinian wines along with wines from neighbouring AOC regions. They also have a great selection of spirits, champagnes and wine related items; the cooperative winery of Saint-Chinian stocks an interesting range of wines; Domaine La Linquiere and Domaine La Serveliere are independent winemakers with their own shops right in the centre of the village. Three other wineries in Saint-Chinian should also be on your list to visit for a tasting: Domaine La Madura, Chateau La Dournie and Clos Bagatelle. All wineries and shops are reachable on foot!

There are many more wineries to be visited in the villages surrounding Saint-Chinian - you won't be disappointed!

The countryside around Saint-Chinian is perfect for cycling - one the one side are the hills, which can be challenging, and on the other side is the relative flat for those who would like to take it a little easier. A little farther afield is the Canal du Midi, which offers some very good cycling tracks, and the old railway tracks in the Orb valley are also great for a spin. If you are not able to bring your own cycle, the bicycle shop in Saint-Chinian does rentals!

Pretty much everything you might wish for can be bought in Saint-Chinian. The twice weekly market (Sundays and Thursdays) offers a great selection of fresh fruit and vegetables (the majority locally grown), fish, meat, ready-made dishes such as paella and roast chicken, cheese, olives, bread, flowers, clothes, jewellery, tablecloths, souvenirs... A SPAR supermarket is in walking distance from the house, and an Intermarche supermarket is just a short drive away. The village also has three bakeries, two butchers, a post office, three hairdressing salons, pharmacies, electrical stores, wine shops etc.

Large hypermarkets can be found in Thezan les Beziers (Super U) and Beziers (Geant Casino and Auchan)
