My husband, Michael and I are joint owners of our villa and enjoy frequent visits to Magalas. We live in Ipswich and are both retired. I taught English to 11-18 year olds and Michael worked in the public sector for many years and then ran a successful Management Consultancy Partnership. We had a holiday home in Uzes near Nimes for several years before retiring and then decided to buy a bigger property with a pool close to the coast for our family to enjoy too. Magalas was a good choice!

|Why this location?||Magalas is a thriving hilltop village surrounded by vineyards with lovely views of countryside and mountains but only 20 minutes drive from central Beziers and 30 minutes from beautiful beaches. There is a wide range of things to do including golf, hiking, go-karting, wine tasting, - an endless list.
It is a fascinating area with the Mediterranean sea, Pyrenees mountains, the Haut Languedoc National Park and the Corbieres hills. It benefits from an exceptional climate, a rich wildlife, a spectacular coast and surprising history. You can visit mountains, lakes, cities, cathedrals and Cathar castles; Carcassonne with a turreted fortress crowning the hill above the river Aude, Montpellier, historic Pezenas and Narbonne with its renowned Sunday market. Perpignan, Nimes, Arles, Avignon and the Camargue all offer an enjoyable day out and the shady Canal du Midi flowing through Beziers offers walking, biking, boating, or just watching the boats passing through 8 locks. You choose.
|Unique benefits of property||Our spacious villa is in a quiet residential area only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Magalas which has 2 restaurants, a bakery, pizzeria, newsagent and general store. 5 minutes drive away is the local Tourist Office, supermarket, brasserie style restaurant, pharmacy and petrol station. There is a heated pool which children love and a south facing garden with an unoverlooked terrace and shady trees at the back. The villa itself is very comfortable with reversible air conditioning and gas central heating. Children love the heated pool and there are plenty of pool/beach toys plus 2 parasols for the garden. A shaded boules court and barbecue are also available.
The villa offers the unusual combination of privacy, setting, comfort, and activities, suitable for all ages which is made clear by this review from one guest, from Kent. "A fabulous fortnight at a brilliant villa - so well equipped and everything flows so nicely. Highly recommended." (The Smyths).
Pezenas, just 20 mins drive away, has a weekly market on Saturdays which is very popular so arrive early and there are lots of interesting small shops and outlets to browse through as well.
The 8 locks of Beziers on the Canal du Midi are well worth a visit and there is a large restaurant and tourist shop on site. You can also hire bikes there for a smooth shady ride alongside the Canal. Beziers Cathedral and the town itself are well worth a visit as are Carcassone and Narbonne. If you fancy an outing by train rather than driving, there is a station in Magalas and the trains stop at Beziers Station which is opposite a park, the Plateau des Poetes. A leisurely stroll brings you through lovely gardens and a small play area for children to the centre of Beziers.
There is a busy market on Fridays at Valras Plage 40 minutes drive away. This is a beautiful beach with plenty on offer for children and a wide variety of restaurants. The Aqualand Water Park for children and adults is popular too.
To the north, only 25 minutes away, there is the beautiful Languedoc National Park with wonderful scenery including the spectacular Gorges d'Heric and the choice of walking, trekking and mountain biking. Lake swimming and water sports can be found at Lake de Salagou, or river swimming, kayaking and canoeing.
There really is a great range of activities and places to visit in the area and there are plenty of brochures in the villa for you to browse through and make a choice.
You may, of course, prefer to relax on the terrace with a glass of wine and take lazy swims in the pool - the choice is yours.
