This luxurious 5 bedroom village house (sleeps 8 because we like to have enough space for everyone) is perfectly located in the centre of the popular village of Capestang on the Canal du Midi in South West France.
The village square is a 2 minute walk to the left and the Canal du Midi a 2 minute walk to the right.
Reviews over the years from another site. We have only ever received 5* reviews (bar one which was due to a sun lounger breaking so we got a 4*).
Property was in a great location, close to the square which hosts the market twice a week.
The property was very spacious, lots of homely facilities. It was a great location to walk into the village only a 100 yards to the square and less then five minutes walk to the famous Canal de Midi. Its an easy 25 minutes journey to the nearest beach. Capestang has a host of restaurants ranging from a Thai, French to a pizza take away. The property had two reception rooms great for teenagers to relax and watch television whilst the adults relaxed. The out door space was spacious for a house set in the centre of town. The bedrooms were large and comfortable, and all the bathrooms had powerful showers. Each bedroom had large fans to cool the rooms in the evenings. We found it difficult to acclimatise with the use of fans as still hot, so air condition units would be a benefit, but that's a personal choice. We would definitely return, it was a lovely touch to receive a welcome basket of food which was a surprise.

A memorable holiday
Out party of 5 (3 adults & 2 children) has just returned from a super holiday in Maison du Monde. The house is exactly as described in the overview and the photos are accurate and we all really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable and well equipped house. The location of the house is amazing! It's just a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants and a few minutes walk in the other direction to the Canal du Midi. There is a lot to see and do in this beautiful area of France....we particularly enjoyed our visit to magnificent Carcassone, swimming and kayaking at Roquebrun, the vineyards of St Chinian, moules et frites at the beach etc etc We found our experiences at Capestang and at Maison du Monde to be very positive and the beautiful weather was an added bonus! Thank you Beverley and Fiona for ensuring that our stay at Maison du Monde was such a memorable experience. Maddy, Nick, Ruth, Evie(11) and Olivia(9)

Maison du Monde (98754) is in an ideal location in the charming village of Capestang. Local facilities (restaurants, shops & supermarkets) are plentiful. Father afield there are superb, rural areas, towns with historical pasts, and the Meds superb beaches. Go south to Collioure and see the Charles Rennis McIntosh Trail. Listing is true and accurate and the house and outside areas are well kept and looked after. Te owner couldn't have been more helpful and the local gardienne, Fiona, was there when needed and provided local info.

Maison du Monde is a real jewel set in the delightful village of Capestang and located within 2 minutes walk of the tree filled village square where the local market is held twice a week. Being a former wine makers house it is full of character having been thoughtfully and tastefully renovated and equipped by Beverley the present owner. The house is much larger than it seems and while it was very comfortable for our relatively small group of 4 it could easily accommodate a much larger family or mixed group. Oh yes - bring your swimming costume. The pool is larger than it looks in the photograph - and it is heated ! The village is situated on the Canal du Midi with lots of fine walks. It is also ideally located for exploring this beautiful region of France and within easy reach of the stunning cities of Carcassonne, Narbonne and Beziers - and a mere half hour drive to the coast. You will quickly make friends with the local shop keepers and in particular the nearest boulangerie/patisserie which is even less than 2 minutes walk! If you really must visit a supermarket - there are 2 on the outskirts of the village and both well tuned to the local taste - and very well stocked. Beverley was a mine of information when we booked and Fiona, the house minder, lives nearby in the village and is always on hand for any help or advice. A great service and a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.

We all fell in love with Maison du Monde from the first moment we arrived. It is a beautiful villa set in the heart of the quaint village of Capestang. All of the rooms are furnished tastefully and comfortably. The kitchen is very well equipped and the outside kitchen is also extremely well stocked Beverley's attention to detail is amazing and both she and Fiona made us very welcome indeed. My children's ages range from 18 to 9 and all of them absolutely loved this beautiful villa and its location. We would thoroughly recommend for a very relaxing family holiday with also lots to do and see in the vicinity.

I haven’t a single complaint. Everything we needed or wanted was there. The location was excellent, the house was clean and well maintained, (and much larger than I though it would be), the kitchen was well stocked and the pool was super fun. The cinema was a big hit with my kids and so was the outdoor space. To top it all off was the delightful Fiona there to answer questions, clean the pool and offer advise for travel in the area. We all would love to go back and stay even longer.

Maison du Monde is an absolute gem, located in the heart of the beautiful village of Capestang. The house has been lovingly restored, keeping some of the original features and combining them with the modern facilities required for a great stay. The kitchen comes supplied with every utensil that a budding cook may need and the facilities are perfect. The TV room/lounge comes equipped with a very large number of books and DVDs that my kids really enjoyed taking out to the converted cave, which is now a fully functioning cinema complete with original cinema seats. The bedrooms are of adequate size and the three bathrooms/showers are perfect for a large family. The outside space was heaven and gave our family a safe and secure area to play in. The pool area of which the picture do not do justice was fantastic for lazing around in private surroundings. Maison du Monde is situated in the heart of the beautiful village of Capestang, minutes away by foot from the main square, Canal du Midi and 2 supermarkets. This is a fantastic part of the world and we have spent many years coming here. Beverly is a great host and is always on hand to answer questions and queries that you may have. The house has been converted by someone who loves this place and you can feel it as soon as you walk behind the imposing gates. We can not recommend Maison du Monde highly enough and we hope this review is helpful to anyone coming to stay here. We look so forward to returning in the future and Thank Beverly and her team for everything. Evan & Brendan, Dublin, Ireland

Gorgeous house in friendly village.
We loved this house the moment we opened the door. The photographs do not do it justice. The pool is bigger than we had expected and it was a comfortable 23 degrees .The house is spacious and beautifully fu
The spacious living area includes a large open plan kitchen-dining room. This is fully equipped with everything you may need. It has a range cooker, american style fridge-freezer, washing machine, dish washer, drinks fridge, microwave and loads of cooking aids. There is also a beautiful ornate cupboard full of cooking pots etc.
The table seats 8 and there is room to sit at the counter in the centre to chat to whoever is cooking.
The living has 2 full sofa's to seat 7/8, some original art deco cinema seats and a bath sofa at the other end. Plenty of room for everyone.
There is also a separate tv and library room.
The are 5 bedrooms.
First floor master bedroom with en suite with bath and separate shower. Also a day bed for sleepless/lonely children.
Double bedroom to share the shower room at the end of the corridor or could use the shower room on the ground floor.
Twin bedded room opposite the shower room.
Master bedroom with en suite with bath and separate shower. This also has a staircase which leads to it's own private lounge which overlooks the village roof tops and has a beautiful view of the village church.
Double bedroom with own shower room.
One full with shower on the ground floor.
2 En suites with baths and separate showers.
2 Shower rooms, on the first and second floors.

Outside, the front courtyard has dining furniture and a bbq - perfect for al fresco dining on the warm French evenings. There is also a summer kitchen for covered dining for those wishing to eat on the shade. Through the wooden gates the private walled garden is where the heated private pool is and a 12 seater cinema with original art deco chairs (in the old wine cubes).

|Why this location?||I wanted a house that was in the middle of the village yet close to the canal. I wanted to be able to walk to get bread in the morning and have a coffee in the square and then take the dogs for a walk along the Canal du Midi.
Capestang is in the heart of Cathar country, located between the towns of Narbonne and Beziers and is on the Canal du Midi. The area is filled with fortified villages and ancient ruins. Fantastic sights nearby include Minerve, Carcassonne, Aigues Mortes, Beziers, Cap d'Agde, Narbonne, Rennes le Chateau and many more. Spain is an hours drive away. The nearest beaches are Narbonne and Beziers where there are km's of sandy beaches so you can run for hours. Lots of lovely seafood restaurants and ice cream parlours too.
There is also Agro Branching, ice skating, canoeing and a wonderful animal reserve at Sigean. Antiques fairs at Montpellier, Beziers and Avignon are a must for collectors. There are plenty of car boot sales too at the weekends in the villages.
|Unique benefits of property||Location, privacy and gated parked. It is a large house right in the middle of the village yet when the gates are close you have complete privacy. The bedrooms are large and there are 5 bathrooms. Although there are 5 bedrooms we only take 8 guests to ensure the luxury experience and not a cramped one.|
There are lot of markets throughout the region.
Capestang is on a Wednesday and Sunday.
Lezignan Corbiere on a Thursday is a great market.
Beziers and Narbonne both have enormous markets on various days.
Olonzac on a Thursday is a treat.
Pezenas on a Saturday is a must and I think another day during the week in the summer. It is also full of antique shops.
