For the gastronome, we have a Michelin-starred restaurant close by, and several excellent local eateries where a 5 course meal will cost you all of 10 Euros, and that includes wine.
At the edge of the hamlet of Chateaurenon, near Bussiere-Galant and Chalus.
Just 2km at Bussiere-Galant and several more within a 15km radius.
For those who want to relax and enjoy the gentler pace of yesteryear, unwind from the stresses and strains of modern life, there are sunloungers in the orchard and a selection of books to read.
For the keen shopper, there is the wonderful porcelain and enamel of Limoges, the basketwork for which our region is famous, and the many village markets held all year round.
For the serious sightseer and historian, we are located on the route of Richard the Lionheart with its wonderful chateaux, and tourist attractions such as Rocamadour, the caves at Lascaux and Futuroscope are an easy day’s outing.
For the sporting types, there are tennis, velo-rail, a treetop adventure course, fishing and swimming at the lake at nearby Bussière Galant and at several other lakes a short drive away, kayaking on the Vienne, mountain bike trails and nature walks all round the region.
For the wine enthusiast, we are not too far from several regions, notably Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cahors, where you can sample and stock up with quality wines at reasonable prices.
If you are looking for a quiet spot in France, with walks from the front door, plus lakes for swimming, boating, fishing, and even a high-wire descent over the lake,(for the younger, brave souls),then Chateaurenon is it.
The gite is very well maintained and comfortable.Towels and bed-linen are provided.
Jenny's hospitality includes samples of her own, fresh garden produce, depending on season.
It was our second stay in two years, and were made to feel very welcome again!
Local towns, and markets are within easy reach.(Bakery in village,on road to cottage.)
Local restaurant near station was excellent.
Only disappoint this year was that the nearest restaurant/bar was closed,(hence the 9),but there are ample restaurants within easy drives,to make up for that.
Very friendly owner, all round an enjoyable week. Very quiet and peaceful location
A lovely cottage in an idyllic setting. One of the best we have rented in the last 10 years. The owner is a wonderful host, very welcoming, anticipating every need without being intrusive. The owner is very knowledgeable on the area and extremely helpful. A chocolate box cottage that is well worth visiting.
Peaceful, well equipped kitchen and lovely gardens to sit in.
