The Local Area

For some beautiful panoramic views of this area, visit Mont Gargan just 6 km away, with an altitude of 731m (Verdeyme is 550m). Travel some of the route of Richard the Lion Heart and see many chateaux and fortified churches. Visit some of the most beautiful villages in France (award winning). Oradour sur Glane 25km north west of Limoges where the village has been left just as the German SS soldiers left it on June the 10th 1944 after killing all of its inhabitants. See the prehistoric sites and the Vezere valley. Gimel-Les Cascades where the 3 waterfalls have a total drop of 143m. Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, which is one of the most attractive medieval villages along the Upper Dordogne. The Plateau de Millevaches (978m at its highest point]. Collonges-La-Rouges built entirely of bright red sandstone. Go and have a look at whats on offer at the local markets and car boot sales, or enjoy yourselves at the local fetes of which many have live music. This is just a small sample of what you can do, there are plenty more displayed in our information pack together with local maps.

We had a very warm welcome and a vey comfortable stay thanks to Mick's great hospitality.

The Gite was lovely and warm and the option of lighting the wood burner added to our experience. The views were lovely and the area was very peaceful and quiet.

Access to UK television and internet helped was excellent.

I would highly recommend the Gite to anyone wishing to stay in the area. We went out of season so needed to bear it in mind for local services.

This gite was ideal for us, a family with primary school aged children. It is comfortable but not top-of-the-range, boutique style. This suited us as we didn't have to worry about the children damaging stuff. The welcome pack was sensible as a means of making it through until the shops opened the next day. The nearest shops are a ten minute drive away so we didn't have fresh croissants everyday. It seemed too much effort to drive that far! - I think that was the relaxing effect of rural France. The gite is situated on a road junction in a small hamlet. The roads are very quiet with, perhaps, two cars an hour. There is an unfenced garden around the house with a larger, fenced, garden, across the road. If we had a dog or younger children I wouldn't feel comfortable just letting them out of the front door without some supervision.
We spent most of our days at the lakes (approx. 30 minute drive) where the manmade beach had everything we needed for a typical beach holiday, ie, café, toilets, safe swimming, value for money activities such as canoe, pedalo, stand-up paddle. Each town has a municipal outdoor pool with entry for 1 or 2 euros. These are well maintained, clean, friendly, and usually have slides. Certainly enough to entertain kids for an afternoon. Some require men to wear 'budgie smugglers' though! There's also nearby 'go ape' style tree climbing centres for 10 to 15 euros

Overall we were impressed with the gite and would strongly recommend it to others
