If you are looking for a relaxing ‘get away from it all’ holiday, then this could be your haven. In the heart of the beautiful Limousin, the house is situated down a small lane that only leads to 2 other properties. We offer comfortable accommodation and grounds that include a 1-acre field leading down to the River Gartempe, where you can sit and watch the wildlife and the river flowing by. You can even do a spot of fishing in this premier category trout river, perhaps catching some rainbow or brown trout for lunch.
Well equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, gas hob and electric oven. Large dining table to seat 8.
The lounge area with comfortable chairs, logburner, tv with British Freesat, dvd player inc dvd's/cd's and hi-fi system.
Cosy additional sitting room with sofabed, books and Wi-Fi leading to the ground floor en suite bedroom.
On the ground floor, one 5' wide double bed en suite bedroom. On the 1st floor, one bedroom with 5' wide double bed and one bedroom with twin beds.
En suite bathroom has a shower cubicle, toilet and handbasin. The 1st floor bathroom has a shower cubicle, toilet and handbasin.
Log burning stove in the main lounge. Electric heaters in the bedrooms.
Tv, dvds, cd's and lots of books and board games available. Also spotting the wildlife!
The lounge doors open out onto the large tranquil patio with sunloungers, bbq, dining table and chairs overlooking the garden, our field and the river (complete with kingfishers!). Great for relaxing during the day and, perhaps, some al fresco dining in the evening. As the cottage is on a no thru lane which leads to the mill and the mill pond there are very few cars etc. passing the property.
Parking space for up to 3 cars.
The river runs along the bottom of our field and the bank is not fenced off so people with young children do have to be cautious. The ground floor bedroom is ideal for people who have problems with stairs. Sorry no dogs. Please contact the owner for more information.
Lower ground floor utility room with washing machine, tumbledryer and fridge for the fishermen.
Relax on the patio or down next to the river and enjoy the tranquillity! Look out for the kingfishers flying along the river. Walking distance to the local bar/restaurant. Local lake close by for fishing if you prefer lakes to the river. Popular area for cycling and walking. Bessines sur Gartempe is about a 20 min drive away and has a weekly market, supermarkets, tourist information, cafes, restaurants and a lake to fish in or walk around. Or go further afield and visit the interesting old city of Limoges, famous for its meat market and porcelain. Or visit Lake Pardoux for swimming, water sports and fishing.
A fantastic holiday had by all . A great quiet , rural location. Relaxing .
The house was equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay .
We bbq’d most nights and sat in peace watching the shooting stars .
Facilities in the nearest towns are brilliant but can get most of what you need .
The larger supermarket are better stocked and cheaper.
We will definitely be booking again . Many thanks
Gill & Terry !
Thank you for posting this review which gives readers a good insight into the nature of our property and its setting. Repeat bookings always give us comfort that we're doing things right!
This is the most confortable and well-equipped gite we have stayed in during our many trips to France.
We loved the peaceful rural setting and enjoyed sitting by the river fishing and watching the kingfishers and otters. The outdoor space was also very well equi[pped with furniture and a gas BBQ and lovely views. This part of France can best be described as rural and is ideal for walking, cycling and generally getting away from it all. We would defintely recommend this gite and would love to return.
We welcome this review but have one point of clarification to make. It would be nice to have otters in the river, but actually the interesting creatures that can be seen quite frequently are coypus, not otters. Coypus are vegetarians so they have no impact on the fish stocks. They are rather partial to apples, however, so have been known to make frequent visits (when they think no-one is around) to our apple tree nearest to the river bank!
