La Grange is a delightful, 6 Bedroom comfortable 18th Century Barn which has been lovingly restored to an exceptionally high standard giving space and complete seclusion with the wow factor as soon as you arrive. Although retaining many of the original features, including exposed beams and stonework with large fireplaces and wood burning stoves, every modern convenience has been thought of. The huge farmhouse kitchen, which has just been completed, is the hub of the house and leads onto the back garden, where you will find the last rays of the evening sunshine.

Its glorious restoration was done some years ago and the feel is warm, open and natural. Like a Tardis, the modest, rustic exterior belies the vast, comfortable and inviting spaces inside, and it’s perfect for families; there's a heated swimming pool, 3 barbecues, bikes and a ping pong table in the barn area. The huge sitting room has an equally huge fireplace topped by a gargantuan beam, myriad armchairs and a hunting-lodge atmosphere. The double-height dining room is in lovely old stone and sites the splendid oak dining table. Through the original wooden door lies real treasure: the beautiful, spacious sunny kitchen with all you could need and glorious views. Upstairs, bedrooms are done with style and originality; the big master suite is an absolute wow of creative décor and a free standing bath with a view. There are some fine pieces of furniture, too, in white rooms with knotty pine floors. There are a total of 5 bathrooms - all delightful.

The private and heated swimming pool is close to the house whilst the meadow at the back of the house is perfect for a kick around. Although this is the sleepy part of the Haute Vienne, and perfect for a get away from it all holiday, the pretty market town of Magnac Laval, a pretty market town and the closest place, is only 7 minutes away, the beautiful towns of Montmorillon, Mortemart, Le Dorat and Bellac are all between 13 and 40 minutes away, and for those wanting to explore a little further, Limoges with its old city, covered market and museums is only 45 minutes away.

There is a ping pong table in the barn plus 7 bicycles which you are free to use.

La Grange is perfect for an "all ages" holiday with plenty of room for everybody to find their own space.

Kitchen and dining

The brand new kitchen has just been extended and renovated and is light and spacious and leads onto the rear courtyard. Large wooden refectory table plus island with bar stools. The utility room has a washer and dryer. The more formal dining room is in the entrance hall with antique wooden table and seating for 12. There are various al-fresco areas in the gardens.

Living rooms

The huge sitting room has a lovely open fireplace - perfect in case of chilly evenings. Patio doors lead onto the terrace which is perfect for breakfast. There are lots of comfortable sofas and chairs which are great for an afternoon snooze. There is a tv which offers UK Freeview.

Bedrooms

There are 3 bedrooms in the "new" side and a further 3 bedrooms to the original side of La Grange. All are delightfully decorated and extremely comfortable - no fighting over views as they all have them! The master bedroom has a victorian free standing bath. Two new shower rooms have just been installed.

Bathrooms

There are 2 bathrooms on the new side - one with bath and shower over and the second with a shower cubicle. On the old side are 3 bathrooms - one with free standing bath and shower attachment and two with mini-shower cubicles.

Heating

There is a wood burning stove in the hall and an open wood burning fireplace in the living room. There is of course central heating if required.

There are a plethora of excellent restaurants, markets and many activities in the local area. Consult the detailed 2019 "Visitors Guide" written by the owners on where to go and when.

Garden and outside

The star of the show is the private and heated swimming pool to the front of the house. There is a patio off the living room and a large area to the right of the house which hosts the original bbq and large dining room. To the rear of the house is a large grassed area which is perfect for sunbathing or to just have a snooze in the shade.

Why this location? La Grange is situated in a wonderfully secluded location with beautiful views. You feel very private and yet close to the many attractions of this lovely area.

Although retaining many of the original features, including exposed beams and stonework with large fireplaces and wood burning stoves, every modern convenience has been thought of. The huge Baronial style entrance hall with its atrium and antique furniture sites the splendid oak dining table. The private fenced and heated swimming pool is close to the house whilst the meadow at the back of the house is perfect for a kick around with a football. Although this is the sleepy part of the Haut Vienne, and perfect for a get away from it all holiday, the pretty market town of Magnac Laval is only 10 minutes away.

Magnac Laval

Magnac Lavel is the local village/town with a supermarket (closes midday Sunday), a petrol station and a couple of very good restaurants and cafes (good for a morning coffee or an afternoon beer). Thursday and Sunday are market days when you can shop in true French style. There are two boulangeries which close on different days so that you can always pick up fresh croissants every morning.

Lac St. Pardoux

Sandy beaches and very large lake at Lac St. Pardoux - 30 minutes drive with large beach areas. Surrounded by woodlands, ideal for mountain biking, horse riding, jogging, and walking. 330 hectares of lake where you can take part in a number of water sports

The property was recently refurbished with a lovely new kitchen diner and bath/showe rooms. We loved all the outside areas. Very good quality outside furniture had been provided to the pool and outside dining/bbq area. The gite was also well equipped with good bikes for adults, table tennis and (everyones favourites) the badminton net, boules and swingball.
The housekeepers Tony and Vikki were very helpful and friendly.
There will be fight over the master bedroom which is fab, although all bedrooms are good.
This is a rural location which is what we wanted but you need to travel a little if you want larger towns/nightlife.
We canoed near Moussac and visited Oradour and Lac Pardoux all of which are worthwhile expeditions.
We would recommend this property for family/group holidays.
