La Jolie Maison has an enclosed large private garden and is surrounded by beautiful rolling green fields and forests. The south west facing sun terrace is an absolute sun trap where there is nothing better than to sit out of an evening with a glass of vin watching nature hard at work, sun setting, night sky fill with stars ... a truly fantastic sight!

Unfortunately La Jolie Maison is not suitable for wheelchair users, children are more than welcome (and indeed all seem to thoroughly enjoy themselves) but we do ask parents to be aware of the steps up to the house and the open stairs in the Cottage

Beautiful town on the edge of the River Drone which is know as the Little Venice of the Dordogne. Mixture of medieval and Renaissance architecture, belfry of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre is said to be one of the oldest in France. Wonderful weir and hotel on the edge of the river with a working water mill, mill boat trips around the town, numerous restaurants, park, shopping, cobbled side streets, canoeing, busy Friday morning market.

Very popular Wednesday morning market which has been held since the 17th Century. Selling local fresh produce, meat, fish, cheese, vegetables, fruit, bread, live poultry, local artisan stalls with handcrafted items, clothes, bags, jewellery etc and numerous street side bars/ restaurants to just sit and relax.

Of historic interest is the town of Oradour-Sur-Glane which on the 10th of June 1944 had its occupants massacred by the German Waffen SS Company, the town remains the same as it did that day as a somber memorial to the victims. The on-site museum fully explains the tragic circumstances of the invasion
Situated on the stunning river Vienne with medieval churches, an Abbey, cobbled roads with an assortment of unusual shops, restaurants and weekly market. You can enjoy a walk along the Corot trail (named after the painter Jean-Baptiste Corot) which is in a designated zone of natural beauty
A beautiful lake approximately 330 hectares (the largest lake in the Haute-Vienne) with surrounding woodlands of 750 acres. Perfect location for a family day out, whole host of outdoor activities, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, indoor swimming pool with shoot and outdoor slide, sandy beach to relax or enjoy a swim in the lake. For the more adventurous zip wire across the lake or embark on one of the challenging trails/climbs through the forest (suitable for children from the age of 3) wonderful family day out ... highly recommended.
