Very comfortable detached 2 bedroom stone cottage situated in the beautiful Correze countryside midway between the popular towns of Objat and Pompadour. This rural retreat is perfect for those wanting to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, yet is only a short drive from various towns and "beaux" villages for shopping, eating and sightseeing.
Well behaved pets are welcome and the rear garden is secure.
The non smoking cottage is furnished and equipped to a high standard and caters for up to 4 adults.
Ground floor - Open plan lounge with 3 piece suite, welsh dresser and corner unit; dining area with oak refectory table, 5 chairs and an oak dresser; kitchen with built in units incorporating sink unit; cooker (gas top/electric oven) and dishwasher. A fridge-freezer and pine unit complete the kitchen furniture. A door from the kitchen leads out onto a decked terrace at the back of the cottage. Also on the ground floor is a separate toilet; a utility/storage room with washing machine and the bathroom with the walk-in shower and vanitory unit.
Upstairs- An open spiral staircase leads to a large upstairs lounge area which is equipped with a settee; 2 armchairs; coffee-table etc and the 2 double bedrooms are at either end of this area.
Garden - There is a large gravelled area in front of the cottage and your car can be parked close to the front door, making loading and unloading an easy process. The garden at the rear of the property is very secluded and peaceful; perfect for sunbathing and enjoying meals on the terrace. A large awning over the terrace can be utilised when it gets too hot! Most of the garden is down to grass and sunbeds are provided along with table, chairs, cushions and gas barbecue. The garden is securely fenced for dogs and can also be accessed via a gate at one side of the cottage.
There are no extra costs involved with renting the cottage as the rental price includes all electricity, gas usage, and all bed linen and towels are also provided. Heating is not normally necessary in summer, but when required is provided by an electric underfloor system on the ground floor, and individual electric portable heaters upstairs.
Beds are always made up ready for your arrival and a welcome pack of some food essentials (including a bottle of wine!) will be found in the kitchen.

Separate toilet opposite the shower room.

Petanque can be played on the gravel to the front of the cottage but the terrain is not ideal. Public terrains are in every town and village and the nearest is in St Solve. We frequently play there with friends in the summer.
Securely fenced rear garden. Very secluded; mainly grassed with shrubs around the borders.
Secure parking for several cars in front of the cottage. There is no garage.
You can park close to the front door if you wish for loading or unloading the car.
The cottage is ideal for persons wanting to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. There are numerous walks to be enjoyed either from the cottage or by taking the car and following the many walks described in the books and pamphlets in the cottage. It is also well positioned to visit the many interesting and historic towns and villages of the region as well as its natural beauty.
My wife and I have lived in France since 2005 and have let Priezac Cottage since 2008. Before our move to France we had a successful B&B on the Isle of Wight and I ran my own company. We have always tried to provide good value and good quality accommodation, and understand how important holiday breaks are for everyone. A "home from home" is what many of our guests have said about the cottage and we hope you will find everything you need for a very pleasurable holiday.
|Year property purchased||2005|
|Why this location?||We enjoy the rural aspect and scenery of the Correze and it is a part of the country where you don't have to worry about forgetting to lock your door or close your windows!|
|Unique benefits of property||We actually lived in Priezac Cottage for 18 months whilst we renovated our current house and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is situated at the end of a private driveway and has no neighbours apart from ourselves. A private, quiet and peaceful rear garden overlooks fields.|
There are several Trocs, Antique shops, and private dealers in the region, and during the Spring and Summer months almost every town and village has at least one "vide grenier" sale (literally-empty the attic. UK equivalent-car boot sale). Brive has several Trocs and antique shops and there is also an auction house that normally has a Thursday morning weekly auction.
Correze and the Limousin has a wealth of footpaths and trails for both the casual and more energetic walker. Most of the footpaths are well signed and maps/leaflets of many local and other walks are provided in the cottage. Several walks can be undertaken from the cottage itself without the need to drive anywhere.
By far the best value eating out is to take advantage of the lunchtime menu of the day that every restaurant, hotel and auberge will advertise. The price for a 3 to 4 course meal starts from about 13 Euros and in some cases will include the house wine and coffee (small black). There are several good value restaurants in the area. Again, Brive has the widest choice of restaurant with several Oriental and other cuisines available.
These evening events, held during July and August mainly, are very popular with both visitors and locals. The idea is to provide a venue where genuine local farmers and producers can sell their produce directly to the public in a social and convivial atmosphere. In the Limousin region there are well over 50 towns and villages that stage them on a regular basis. There are several a short drive from Priezac. Many of the visitors to these markets buy local produce (meat, sausages, bread, wine, etc) then cook it on the large barbecues that are provided there. Trestle tables and benches are also provided; many of them often under large awnings or marquees. You can also buy chips and a bar is always available if you want a beer or soft drink. From about 8.30/9.00pm live music will also usually be provided. The markets start from around 5pm and at the height of the summer often go on until midnight.
The racecourse at Pompadour, situated below the impressive Chateau, is one of the most picturesque in France. Meetings are held every week during July and August, mainly on Sundays. It is inexpensive to get in (6 Euros per adult 2013) and the race card comprises flat races, hurdles and cross-country! It is a family friendly place and you can wander around freely including access to the grandstand.
This museum was established by the former French President Jacques Chirac and houses an amazing number and variety of valuable gifts that were bestowed on him as the leader of France on his many overseas official visits. It is well worth a visit and as it is a fair distance from Priezac we would advise visitors to take a whole day to fully enjoy the museum; perhaps take lunch in the excellent restaurant in the museum grounds and also visit the Monedieres forests and viewpoint which are nearby.
Objat is the nearest town to Priezac, just 8 km away. It is well known in the region for staging a Sunday morning market all year round, that is well supported by locals for their supply of local vegetable produce, fresh fish etc. The centre of the town is closed to traffic and a wide range of stalls can be found in the various streets with most of the permanent shops also open for business. During July and August Objat also stages free concerts every Wednesday evening where the entertainment can vary each week from folk dancers to rock bands. An open air swimming pool with slides and infant pools etc is situated in a park close to the town centre and there is also a large lake. On Bastille Day (14 July) a firework display is set off over the lake. Objat has a wide range of shops, several cafes and restaurants, and several supermarkets.
Apart from the horse racing held there, Pompadour is also famous for its imposing Chateau that sits proudly in the centre of the town and for it being the centre for the Anglo Arab National Stud. From March to October you can enjoy national and international level equestrian competitions such as eventing, show jumping, dressage, best of breeds show, donkey day, endurance events etc , and you can attend most of these free of charge! Guided tours are available of the chateau; the stables of Puy Marmont and the stud farm with the mares and foals at La Jumenterie de la Riviere, about 6 kms outside Pompadour. There is a Tourist Info office at the entrance to the Chateau for further information on local events, activities and places to visit.
We have just returned from spending 2 weeks at this Gite and would recommend the experience to anyone who wants a quiet and relaxing holiday.
The Gite is superbly equipped and the garden is totally enclosed so we had no worries about our dog exploring the beautiful countryside on her own.
The town of Objat is only a 10 minute drive away with all the amenities you need.
The hospitality shown by David and Doreen was first class without being intrusive and in all honesty we couldn’t praise Priezac Cottage more highly.
We were two couples, who were looking for somewhere where we could just relax and chill. We found such a place in Priezac Cottage. The owners, David and Doreen Sedgewick, are very friendly and helpful, without being intrusive.
We would highly recommend the cottage. We hope to return to sometime in the future.
Priezac Cottage is a beautiful gite to enjoy. The cottage is spotless with home-from-home facilities and comfort. The owners are close at hand but totally respect your privacy and are simply there to help and advise if needed. The interior is excellent and a gorgeous rear garden is perfect for those outdoor meals in great peace and privacy. It's location is perfect for trips around the Correze area with 5 of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France within easy distance. The National Stud and local horse races are some 15 minutes up the road in Pompadour. It's a super day out to enjoy blending with local tradition and custom. Brive is an excellent centre with a lovely Saturday market. The local village of Objat also has a great Sunday market and offers all the visitor needs. Outdoor activities are endless with walking, horse riding, river sports etc all very close to hand. The local roads were most enjoyable fir cycling, running through such beautiful countryside. We've travelled all of the Dordogne but would recommend this area ahead of all those well known tourist haunts. We've enjoyed numerous holidays in a France for some 25 years and this experience is at the top of our list. Allez Priezac et merci mille fois!
Priezac Cottage is a very well equipped converted outbuilding with it's own private garden with wonderful, far reaching views.
The English owners are terrific. On hand should you need them but otherwise totally discreet.
The location is hard to beat. Set on a hillside with panoramic views. Utterly peaceful.
I think it fair to say that children would become a bit bored after a day or two but for us it was, without question, the best French rental holiday ever.
