The Lac de Vassivière or Vassivière Lake is one of France's largest artificial lakes of about 10 square kilometres (2,500 acres). It is the largest area of water in the Limousin region of France and provides water supplies, hydroelectricity, and leisure facilities. Facilities include: 5 patrolled beaches, a small marina for water skiing, canoeing, wake-boarding and windsurfing.
There are footpaths from beside the Barn or there are marked footpaths for a range of longer walks. You could take a packed lunch and sit by the river to watch the birds of prey hunting.
In the heart of the Chabrières forest, just a few miles from Guéret, the Loups de Chabrières animal park is the place to discover over forty animals in their natural environment. All the family, the adults as well as the children, can appreciate the relationship between man and wolf. This is a truly unique site in the Limousin region!
