Home from home large self-catering Gite with a private solar-heated pool, near Ste-Severe-sur-Indre.
A comfortable home with plenty of space to relax, including two living rooms - ideal for larger groups or families who want to do different things. We also have a lovely conservatory-dining-room with superb views over the countryside. This is a great space for playing board games or relaxing with drinks in the evenings and watching the sunset. There is plenty of space indoors and out, even for a large family or group of friends, to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful holiday in rural France.
The large, attractive and private use gardens have an above ground solar heated pool (which may be upgraded in 2018 to a heat exchanger - to be confirmed), a changing room chalet and sunbathing areas and children's play area with badminton, boules court (can be used as a very large sand pit!), charcoal bbq and plenty of garden furniture make it an ideal place to soak up the hot French sunshine. In the front of a house there is an enclosed sunny courtyard with family sized gas bbq and garden furniture.
There is green lane walking direct from the door. Set back off a quite road at the end of a private lane, the house offers peace and tranquillity, but with the security of the neighbour-owners living next door.
Sorry, no pets.

|Year property purchased||2001|
|Why this location?||We bought in this location as it is a lovely unspoilt region, with rolling picturesque countryside, pretty villages and some lovely local attractions, such as the swimming lakes, chateaux and gardens open to the public.|
|Unique benefits of property||The property is set in the countryside with just one other neighbour. It has beautiful unspoilt views. It is set back of the road, which is a quiet road, at the end of a lane, which then turns in to a green lane just outside the property. There is a lovely 3km circular walk right from the door. The house is used as the owners home during the rest of the year - so there is everything you need in the way of equipment and accessories. It really is a home from home.|
Just over an hour away is the marvellous picturesque city of Bourges. A must see is the cathedral. Also recommend the Musée Estève, Maurice Esteve was a local born artist who donated all his works so that the could be enjoyed for free. Some excellent places to eat out.
Medieval town centre, with a good Saturday morning market. Good restaurants include Le Chopin (13,50€ at lunchtime); La Tosca, La Grenouille and many other to choose from. Several supermarkets, cinema, swmming pool complex (indoor and out).
Local attractions include 18 hole golf course, spa and sauna. Nearby is a newly opened swimming and skiing lake with café and beach. The skiing is without boats!
A local swimming lake with beach and café. Tree Top Adventure suitable from small children upwards on a variety of courses, with zip wire right across the lake and back for the brave! Kayaks and pedaloes.
Our local medieval village has a superb restaurant open lunchtime and evenings. There is the Jacques Tati Sceno-vision" Maison de jour de fête" (Jour du Fete was filmed here). Weekly market on a Wednesday morning. You can buy free range pork here, which is produced just 500m from the property.
The property is on the edge of the AOC wine area of Chateaumeillant. We are within easy day tripping distance of several others including Reuilly and Quincy (around 1 hour), Menetou Salon (1.5 hours), Valencay (1.5 hours) Sancerre (2hours).
A lovely, well equipped cottage with everything you could wish for provided. Lovely setting with pool and gardens and play equipment for the children. Even some pet ducks for the kids to feed. The website really does not do it justice. The owners were very nice and lived next door, very helpful. Any problems and issues were sorted out immediately. Not that there were many.
Very rural, lovely local village (Ste Severe) with a superb restaurant,, Le relais du Facteur excellent value, 3 courses for €13!
To visit, we would recommend Les Pierre Jaumatre (fascinating Boulder walk), sidiallies swim lake and high wire adventure, base de loisirs Notre dame (another swim lake with teleski waterskiing tow line) and villages like gargillese and eguzon. Quiet, rural roads made for excellent bike riding.
Nearest town for supermarkets is la chatre which has a super U and a Lidl, which is about a 15 minute drive away from the cottage but further afield is montlucon or chateauxroux, if you need a bigger shopping trip.
All in all, an excellent holiday home and we would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Couldn't get our kids out of the pool!!
