We live in beautiful Cornwall with our 4 children, but love France, and several years ago decided to buy a property for holidays and as a temporary respite from the usual daily grind of our busy lives. Our dream is to work less and spend more time there, if we are ever able to retire!

|Why this location?||We have always loved the Loire area, having spent many happy family holidays there. We enjoy the peace, the relaxed pace of life, and the amazing feeling of space that the geography gives you.|
|Unique benefits of property||One of the lovely things about our property is that it is ideal for larger gatherings, being excellent for multigenerational groups with different interests. We have had many lovely holidays with groups of friends and extended family; some head out cycling or running, some lounge by the pool, some go sight seeing, and of course everyone cooks, eats and drinks together!
We love the outdoor life and are very keen cyclists. This area is heavenly for cycling; miles and miles of near deserted but pristinely surfaced lanes through beautiful countryside, with delightful cafés for rest stops.
The Loire Valley is famous for its numerous chateaux. Our favourites such as Azay le Rideau, Chambord and Chenonceau are approximately 1 -1.5 hours drive away. The Château in Azay le Ferron is well worth a look and the guided tour is excellent for children.
Visit the city of Tours and the beautiful medieval town of Loches. You can take the waters at the local spa town of La Roche Posay or hunt for antiques and brocante at Angles sur l’Anglin For something further afield, take the TGV from Tours and be in Paris in an hour!
There are numerous excellent local restaurants. Hotel de L'Image at Preuilly sur Claise is a favourite.
The nearby village of Le Petit-Pressigny boasts a Michelin starred restaurant.
The region is, of course, famous for wines such as Vouvray and Chinon and many producers offer vineyard tours.
There are multiple other local attractions; Watersports at the Bellebouche Leisure Park, animals at the Réserve Zoologique de la Haute-Touche and the Zooparc de Beauval, and Futuroscope at Poitiers. There are 18 hole golf courses at La Roche Posay (14 miles) and Villedieu (26 miles).
The Loire Valley is perfect cycling terrain. There are plenty of marked cycle routes for all levels of fitness. Bicycles can be hired locally from the Chateau. We are keen cyclists and can share numerous local routes including lunch and café stops!
We were a family of 12 adults, two babies and a toddler so we booked both La Grange and Le fournil. It worked absolutely perfectly as everyone had plenty of space. The pool is lovely and warm and perfect for little ones to splash about in the shallow end. There were plenty of deck chairs and parasols for us all too and the floats, toys and baby rubber ring were fantastic additions! The houses were both so well-equipped with baby items, we were so impressed! Everything from baby spoons to cots amd there were even baby baths. It was such a help as we flew so couldn't bring bulky/heavy stuff.
There wasn't a huge amount going on in Azay-le-Ferron when we were there and it definitely lacks a little cafe/bar but the nearby little towns of Preuilly-sur-Claise and Martizay have got everything. Having said that, we did have a delicious pizza at Chez Tituan on the square in Azay-le-Ferron.
In terms of things to do, the Chateau in Azay-le-Ferron is definitely worth a visit, even if you just walk around the gardens. We also went to the Réserve Zoologique which was amazing! Highly recommend. Angles-sur-l'Anglin is also beautiful and worth a stroll around.
Sue was extremely helpful and quick to respond to all of my emails/questions. We would 100% go back and are already planning our next trip out!
