A typical entry in our guestbook:
"At the end of our 2 week stay in Farmhouse Cottage, it is difficult to find enough superlatives to use in praise of this idyllic house, its glorious peaceful garden, the fantastic swimming pool and, of course, its generous, welcoming owners - Peter and Jane! And whoever has been in charge of the weather .... could not have done a better job either!"
I have a wonderful life stretched between family in the UK and living here in France enjoying summer sunshine and trying not too buy too many treasures from the local brocantes. I have one full time member of staff, (at least that's what he calls himself) my husband Peter who fixes everything, sometimes when it's not even broken. We love to welcome guests to our cottage and hope to ensure they have a really special holiday by being available in the most inobtrusive way possible.

Within 5 miles there is a restaurant to suit everyones pocket from the Michelin Star restaurant at Little Pressigny to the local Auberge at Abilly.
The local village has a variety of shops and cafes grouped round the village square and medieval church. There is a weekly market that caters for all your needs. Supermarkets range from the local grocers to the larger supermarkets that are 15 minutes by car. The medieval town of Loche, just 30 minutes away, holds twice weekly markets in the cobbled streets below the impressive Chateau and its medieval ramparts. For the more serious shoppers there is Tours and Poitiers, both of which are about an hour away.
Le Grand Pressigny 2km
'Chez Grand' Ma 2.5km
The local village, Le Grand Pressigny, is just a over a mile away. It has its own chateau and a new exhibition building (opened Sept 2009) to focus on the region’s importance in the Neolithic period. Tennis court hire, horse riding sessions and fishing permits can be bought locally. Approx one hour away are the Chateaux of Chenonceau, Langeais, Amboise, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Usse, Chinon, Valancy and the medieval towns of Richelieu and Montresor. Just 35 minutes away is the bustling, medieval town of Loche with its twice weekly markets and fine chateau on the hill overlooking the town. To the south there is Futuroscope at Poitiers. A futuristic, interactive media centre with fun for the whole family. Scattered within the small local villages are the more intimate family chateaux that characterise the local area, where time has stood still and the beauty and grandeur of the buildings is there for all to see. There are two golf courses within easy driving distance catering for both the amateur and champion golfers.
Farmhouse Cottage is the perfect holiday retreat and looks even better in real life than it does in the fabulous photos on the website! We were two families with kids aged from three to seven years old and had a great time. The garden is very big with lots of nooks and crannies for exploring and the pool is a good size and accommodates a fair number of inflatables! And if you do get five minutes peace, there are plenty of comfy sun loungers around the pool terrace for chilling out with a book and a nice glass of wine.
Farmhouse Cottage, although rustic with lots of French charm, is absolutely immaculate inside. The owners, Peter and Jane, are great hosts and on hand if you need them. Equally, you wouldn't know they were there if you didn't need anything. Their house is next door but has separate access and own garden.
The only drawback for some holidaymakers may be that there are no amenities in easy walking distance; the village of Le Grand Pressigny is a 20 minute cycle or a five minute drive away.
We would definitely return to Farmhouse Cottage :-)
Many thanks for your lovely comments Cath, we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
After a week at Eurocamp with the kids (which was good fun!), we headed up to the Southern Loire for the second part of our holiday at Peter and Jane's wonderful holiday house which is located halfway between the villages of Abilly and Le Grand Pressigny. Before we left the UK, the information pack they send you in the post before you go is excellent and gives you a great feel for what lies in wait when you arrive.
Peter and Jane were the most charming hosts; they showed us everything we needed to do when we arrived and left excellent instructions for anything we needed to know for the week.
The beds were very comfortable and there were fans in case the nights were too hot. The bathrooms were downstairs which was fine for us, as one of the toilets was at the bottom of the stairs; the showers were both excellent. One bedroom downstairs and 2 up was perfect for us. The kitchen is brilliantly kitted out and very easy to use, though watch banging your head on the centre extractor unit as I am 6"4" and this was the perfect height to bang my head.
TV/DVD/UK TV easy to use. BBQ is charcoal and again easy to use The pool was a great size and well presented; having a heated pool is a luxury, but definitely worth it as the weather was a little changeable the week we were there.
The local boulangerie in Le Grand Pressigny was excellent and used most mornings while the nearest decent supermarket was Intermarche in Descartes which was about a 15 minute drive.
All in all, excellent!
We have had many villa hiring experiences but the exactness of the care and thought that has been put into Farm cottage is exemplary and comes from the very genuine love of the place and surroundings of its owners , Jane and Peter, and their enjoyment of sharing this with others.
We were a little concerned with the proximity of the owners , but this was unfounded and both Jane and Peter are completely respectful of the need for them not be seen or heard. However they are such helpful and genuine people that we were glad and welcoming of their knowledge and input.
The cottage is immaculate in presentation , has just the right amount of personalisation to lend itself to a homely feel and had absolutely everything provided and beyond to ensure we were comfortable from the moment we arrived . Everything is cared for from bedding to entertainment and Jane makes for one of the best tourist information sources and Peter for anything to do with wine and local geology.
The setting of the cottage is very rural and very quiet but if you are looking for time way from a hectic and full on life as we were then this the absolute place to go. There are two supermarkets within a 15 minute drive away and the local village is five minutes a way with two bars two resturants; a bakery; a butcher and a pharmacy . Everything you need in fact is close and even walkable. There are lovely local walks and lots to see and do within an hour if you feel the need to move.
We had such a lovely, relaxing holiday at the Farmhouse. Jane and Peter could not have been more welcoming. The house is ideally situated about 2km from the town, among beautiful golden wheat fields. You can cycle into town, pick up your fresh croissants in the morning, have a drink in the main square or go to the fabulous local run restaurant (traditional, good value and delicious). In the town there is a wonderful old castle and you are within perfect striking distance of all the history and culture the Loire region has to offer. On the road into town there is a place where you can go and take a pottery lesson and try your hand at making pottery on a pottery wheel. We did and have fabulous souvenirs of our holiday.
Alternatively you can hang out at the house, in the large garden or by the pool (safely covered with a hard cover so less stress for parents of young children).
We went with our 4 year and 6 year old and had a magical time. The house is in an idyllic location, everything you could think of has been provided and Jane and Peter give you all the privacy you want.
We could not recommend it highly enough
Thank you Fiona for your lovely comments, it is much appreciated. Jane and Peter
