I decided to move to France four years ago with my wife, a retired school teacher. I am a former Sales & Marketing Manager. Both my wife and I speak French and have very good French neighbours at both of our properties. We decided to make an investment in 2013 in the Loire area which we have visited many times in the past. We are extremely well placed to offer a large family home to people who appreciate the Loire area as we do.
|Year property purchased||2013|
|Why this location?||The Loire valley is one of the most beautiful areas of France, with its many châteaux, wine growing areas and places of historica linterest. The area offers many opportunities to walk, cycle, horse riding and other activities such as golf, fishing and hunting. In the nearest large town, Bourgueil, there is also an ice rink, sports facilities and shops, bars and restaurants. There is also a weekly market, along with many vineyards where local wines can be sampled and purchased. On the outskirts of the town there is also a Hypermarket. The cities of Tours, Saumur and Angers are all within an hours drive away.|
|Unique benefits of property||The main benefits of our gîte are the number of bedrooms (seven) to comfortably accomodate adults and children. Animals are also welcome. Our property is ideal for large families to enjoy. A spacious lounge and separate dining room and separate breakfast room provide plenty of space for all the famly to enjoy. A heated swimming pool with gated access and a security cover offer safety for children. A large gated and fenced garden of around an acre offer security for children and animals. On the first floor there is a large play room for children of all ages, along with a table tennis table in the basement. Ample on site parking for up to six cars is available. Our property is located in the heart of the French country side, however close at hand in the village of Gizeux, 1 mile distant, there is a bakery, general store, chemists and hairdressers, along with a café-bar. There is also a château in the village open for visitors during the season. A warm welcome awaits you.|
The châteaux of Chinon, Saumur and Villandry are close by, all within 1 hours drive. The Abbey of Fontevraud is within 30 minutes drive and well worth a visit. The vineyards of Bourgueil and Saumur are close at hand, along with their many shops and bars with a selection of good restaurants. Futuroscope is 1 hour 30 minutes drive away, and the famous city of Tours with its cathedral and all modern facilities is only 45 minutes drive away. Families are well catered for in this area.
If you head to La Varenne hoping to be able to post photos on Social Media of your ultra moderne/chic Gite in the Loire back to your audience then you will miss out. Twice. The main reason is that this area is about sitting back and soaking up the lack of pollution; noise (first thing I noticed when I got home), light (the stars envelope you here) and air.
I have written a few reviews on Trip Advisor and the common theme throughout all is that it is people that make a holiday or location. Mr and Mrs Ayton who own La Varenne are simply lovely, proud people that allow others to use a home that they themselves also use from time to time.
The house is enormous and located in a lovely spot with views of wheat, sunflower fields, trees and blue skies (10 out of 13 days) as far as the eye can see.
This is not a criticism but the decor is dated. It reminded me of my grandparents house in the 1970's hence my comment about La Varenne not being about image. It would benefit from an overhaul soon but it will in no way diminish your stay and in my case it made me feel somewhat nostalgic and at home.It is clean, fully functional, well equipped and comfortable. We were a family of 5 an that afforded lots of space and privacy when needed and things to do when not. The pool is lovely, always the right temperature. We took 2 dogs who now hate me for bringing them home as the garden is a) immense and b) secure so they could run around all day without any worries.
I love La Varenne.
Thank you very much for your comments. We accept that our project is still ongoing, but we have already come a long way! It was a pleasure for us to have such a lovely family staying in our home, and we were grateful that our property was respected and left clean and tidy. We also love La Varenne and the delightful people round about.
