Although I bought La Baudiere in 2000, I was only able to spend a few weeks a year here until 2007, when I gave up my job and moved here full time. Restoring the property and grounds has been a labour of love and I now at last enjoy sharing my beautiful home with my partner, Sue, our two Bernese Mountain dogs Elsa and Bruno, our families and friends and the many guests who book to stay each summer.
|Year property purchased||2000|
|Why this location?||The Indre et Loire region of France is so peaceful, it has such a wonderful summer climate and is of so much historic interest that, after several years of holidaying here with my young daughters, it was a natural progression to purchase a property. I fell in love with this (then derelict) house because of its stunning views with colours that change with the crop rotation and the seasons.
As this area of France is known for having the second most hours of sunshine annually after the Riviera, a priority part of the major restoration project was the installation of the swimming pool!
|Unique benefits of property||Although La Baudiere is located in such a tranquil, rural setting, all amenities are close by and travelling here from the UK can easily be achieved within a day. Three airports are in easy reach and travelling by car via a variety of channel crossing points is also straight-forward.
La Baudiere, its courtyard and pool area all face south and enjoy hours of sunshine all year round.
We have a list of the most popular places to visit and the most popular things to do, we can email these lists to you to help you plan your holiday ahead of your arrival date. Steve and I are happy to book events ahead for you or organise things once you are here, as you prefer.
The 2016 Tour de France is scheduled to pass close to our house on the leg from Saumur to Limoges. Come and join us to celebrate the biggest event in the cycling calendar!
Spacious, clean, well equipped, good customer service. Cannot fault it
Thank you Richard, it was a pleasure meeting you all and we're really pleased that you were happy with everything! Best wishes Sue
We had a wonderful time at La Baudiere. Sue and Steve couldn’t have been more helpful. One of the best equipped gites we have stayed in. Would definitely recommend and hopefully we will make return visit very soon. We spent a lot of time visiting chateaux but could have easily spent leisurely days relaxing by the pool. Good road network allows fairly quick access to famous chateaux like Chambord and Chenonceau. Also ventured to Puy du Fou. Lots of good restaurants locally. Lunch menus very good value. We also really liked the Friday market at Richelieu ; excellent local produce.
We stayed for a week in August 2018 with my parents and children. The setting is beautiful and the house is immaculate - furnished to a high standard and also very practical (kitchen facilities for cooking etc.) Whilst we were there we celebrated my fathers 80th birthday - and Sue and Steve shared a bottle of wine with us for the occasion :-)
Nothing was too much trouble for them - communciation (before the holiday and during) was fantastic, and they went out of their way to try and make my parents comfortable. It is a quiet area - which is great for relaxing - but you have to drive 40 minutes or so to visit most towns - which normally is not a problem for us but is hard for elderly people. BUT - so lovely to stay by the pool, play table tennis and just relax. Local town nearby has a large supermarket - so stayed in and enjoyed BBQ's. Plan to return sometime - teenagers loved it - pool, games and just hanging around and not rushing all the time! DVD's are available - so the one evening weather wasn't good we just watched a film. They have really made a fantastic job of their conversion and rebuilt it to such a high spec - one of the best we have seen. And a lovely friendly couple - don't write many reviews but they deserve it. Totally recommend a stay here !
Thank you very much for your comments and feedback. We're pleased that we could fulfil most of your requirements except for moving our house nearer to a town! ??
It was a real pleasure meeting you all and it was good that your elderly parents were able to enjoy the holiday too. Hopefully à bientôt Alan and family, best wishes Sue and Steve
From first booking our holiday with Sue and Steve we’ve enjoyed an absolutely first class experience.
Holidaying as an extended family, with three generations (and 4 dogs), we had quite a number of requirements but we found La Baudiere well exceeded all our expectations.
From first arriving, the idyllic location of the farmhouse, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful countryside and the fabulous welcome we received from our hosts, we knew this holiday was going to be something special.
Lots of our time was spend having fun in the fabulous pool area or just relaxing on one of the sunbeds and enjoying the glorious sunshine
Inside, the magnificent large kitchen / dinning room, which could have been an advert in “house beautiful”, was perfectly equipped everything had been thought of to make this a real home from home.
The lovely sitting rooms, all sensitively restored and decorated, were large yet cosy with lots of comfortable sofas.
Similarly the luxurious bedrooms, individually styled and enjoying stunning views, were beautifully furnished with plenty of storage space.
We would all like to thank both Sue and Steve for their generous hospitality, warmth and friendship. In addition the assistance Sue provided by booking trips and reservations on our behalf and in particularly for providing much needed support and translation with both medical and veterinary appointments was invaluable
You have given us a holiday we’ll never forget. Merci !
Thank you very much for your lovely comments Elaine. It was such a pleasure meeting you all and so good to know that our house and all our facilities were just what you needed as a family to enjoy your holiday. Steve and I are always happy to help with any extras, even medical - good to know all went well. Hopefully we'll see you again, best wishes Sue and Steve
