About this property

Tranquil, Romantic, Authentic Retreat. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Blissful wisteria-clad cottage, solar heated swimming pool and grass tennis.
This peaceful cottage is set back from the little road, its pretty old stone walls tucked around with swathes of wisteria, its shutters a Provençal blue.
The views are stunning, it's a haven for wildlife and the top of the hill is brilliant for star-gazing. Step straight into a charming, rustic sitting room with a beamed ceiling, tiled floor, comfortable leather chairs and a wood burning stove. The bright, sunny kitchen is perfect for a meal but on summer nights you'll be eating outside on the pergola terrace, surrounded by herbs and lavender. The (larger) double bedroom has roof timbers, exposed stone walls and marble-topped tables, perfect for a romantic retreat, the smaller twin room is ideal for youngsters, colourful and comfortable.
You can soak up the sunshine in the walled and flower-trellised garden, play Molky on the lawn – in the summer months pop across the lane for archery, badminton and a solar heated pool with loungers.
A truly magical place where guests have returned again and again.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Liz Johnston-Trow

In the summer of 2016 my husband, our daughter and I made the bold decision to up sticks and move to France. From the moment we viewed this property, we knew it was the one for us so we made an offer and everything flowed smoothly from there! We moved in on the 1st March 2017 and life in France is suiting us perfectly. We look forward to welcoming you to share this fantastic piece of tranquillity with us.

Year property purchased 2017
Why this location? We chose this location mainly because of the property itself, however, as keen (wannabe) triathletes we are spoilt for choice for lakes and rivers to swim in and long traffic free roads winding throughout the countryside for running and cycling.
Barrou itself has a small Boulangerie where we get our fresh bread daily and a little further out in Lesigny is a larger patisserie where we can buy yummy cakes. Although situated in rural France we are not too far from plenty of shops and only an hour from the much larger town of Tours.
Unique benefits of property The cottage is the only property we rent out, therefore you will not be sharing the pool with any other guests! It really is a very relaxing place to be, free from any noise or light pollution. Just simply relax and enjoy the surroundings. However, if you are after a bit of exercise we would be happy to provide guided bike rides or exercise classes ranging from gentle low impact to something more intensive.

We have been coming to this idyllic spot for many years now, and can truly recommend Liz and Gary as the perfect hosts. They are really friendly, helpful and caring, but never intrusive. The pretty gite in its rural setting is perfect for couples and families alike, and the wildlife is just a joy. To wake up to the sound of birdsong and to go to bed hearing the owls hooting from the nearby forest is magical, and the peace and tranquillity is healing and restorative. If we could, we would stay here forever.

Owner response

Thank you for such a lovely review. As always, we look forward to your return next year x

Lovely to have a welcome pack and some essentials on arrival. Liz and Gary were very friendly and helpful. Lots to do in the area and the kids adored the lovely warm pool. The only thing we could have asked for to improve might be some comfy chairs on the house side as well as pool side although we did love the cosy hammock. Overall an excellent week!

Owner response

We are glad you had an excellent week at The Cottage and thank you for the valuable feedback. We are looking to make some improvements for next year and some comfy chairs is a great idea, thank you.
