Les Balcons in the Loire Valley' is a substantial 3 bedroom house over two floors with a delightful raised balcony offering lovely views, giving you a countryside feel but with all the village amenities. There is also a 'Juliet' balcony off one of the bedrooms. The house is located in the charming village of Le Grand Pressigny in Southern Touraine within the Centre - Val de Loire region in France.
From your Loire Valley house it is only a few minutes walk to the village centre with its restaurants, bars and shops. The village’s location halfway between the cities of Tours and Poitiers makes it an ideal base to explore the Loire Valley, its many chateaux and pretty villages as well as the department of Vienne where you can visit the theme park of Futuroscope. The nearest chateaux at La Guerche and Le Grand Pressigny itself are only minutes away. You can have a true French experience as it is relatively 'tourist free' but still take advantage of all this beautiful area has to offer, everything from picturesque villages, citadel towns ( many with their own chateau), sandy beaches by beautiful lakes, safari parks and troglodytes.
What you also get is the local experience of your hosts who, although not on site, are within easy reach and only too pleased to help overcome any small problems that may arise while travelling in a country with cultural and language differences, we make ourselves available to make your Loire Valley Holiday as carefree as possible.

We have had a great holiday here. The house has everything and we particularly loved spending evenings on the balcony. We enjoyed cycling locally and can recommend the 12 euro lunch at Maire (simple French food). Troglodytes were interesting. Local shops were great plus fresh bread and delicious gateau from the bakery.

We are Jim and Pauline Craig a Scottish couple the wrong side of sixty who in 2005 decided to invest in a holiday home in France. We chose a house in the small village of Barrou in Southern Touraine ( how and why later ). We say invest as even then we had a desire to one day move here on a permanent basis. We had to look at something that might provide an income stream as we knew we couldn’t actually retire to France. After selling up in Scotland (May 2008) we bought a second house to renovate.

|Why this location?||We chose to live and work in the Centre-Val de Loire because, as a holiday destination, it is a very popular choice for discerning tourists as it offers such a diverse range of holiday options with regard to what to see and do. Our guests tend to be looking more for a village experience where they can be involved, in whatever small way, with the local community, whether it is dining at the village restaurant, buying bread from the boulangerie or using a local shop for topping up supplies.|

While visiting the Loire Valley we suggest you should have the 'French restaurant' experience at least once --or more if your budget can stand it! Here in Southern Touraine you are spoilt for choice with many village restaurants offering lunches for under 15 euros.
Le Grand Pressigny boasts two good restaurants with lunchtime and evening menus to suit most pockets. Both offer opportunities for alfresco dinning on their respective terraces. '
La Savoie Villars went through a major refit in April 2013 and now offers good quality food in very pleasant surroundings.
If you are celebrating something special and want a dining experience then you can dine at the 'Mitchelin Star' “La Promenade” in the nearby village of Le Petit Pressigny.
An unforgettable experience
This restaurant has inside and outside eating areas and lunchtime and evening menus to suit most pockets. They are only a few minutes walk from the house.
Loches at only 30 minutes from our rental house here in the Loire Valley, is very popular with our guests and is one of our favourite places here in the Southern Touraine area of Centre Val de Loire. It has much to offer as it is steeped in history due its royal patronage over the centuries.
This is the 'must see' chateau of the Loire Valley - the iconic Chenonceau is the one, most, if not all, our guests want to see.
If the Loire Valley is known as the garden of France then at Chateau Villandry we must have the garden of the Loire Valley.
Villandry and its gardens is probably one of the most family orientated chateau within the Loire Valley in that it has a children’s maze (not terribly difficult!) and play area as well as the chateau and gardens for the adults. If you only have time to view a couple of chateaux on your visit to the Loire Valley make sure this is one of them.
We wanted a couple of weeks in a comfortable well appointed gite in a village environment and were not disappointed in Les Balcons. Jim and Pauline were more than helpful, settling us in and at the end of the phone should we need them. The gite was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equipped with a great library of books, CDs and DVDs. The gardens were lovely as was the lovely balcony overlooking the countryside which we used most evenings to listen to music and have a couple of glasses of wine. Jim and Pauline kept us informed every day by email about things to do and places to visit in the area and further afield which saved us a lot of time and effort. Their welcome pack of fresh milk, juice, wine and beer was greatly appreciated after a long drive and the basics were there to get us started until we could do a shop. The fresh flowers picked from the garden were a lovely touch too. The village itself had a lovely restaurant "Chez Grandma" which we visited a number of times- lovely food and a hotel which also had a lovely restaurant. There were also a couple of bars one of which provided pizza /burgers and a great tourist information office. The people in the village were all very friendly and welcomed us into their World Cup celebrations. The countryside around Le Grand Pressigny is stunning with most towns having markets which we enjoyed visiting as well as countless Chateaux to visit. We would have loved to stay longer and hope to return.
Many thanks for your review and your positive comments re the house and village. It was really good to have you as guests, Not quite sure re score of 7.0 for 'local amenities' after your positive comments re restaurants, bars and tourist office plus the fact that the village also has a boulangerie,a tabac,a bank, a post office a grocers, a butcher,a florist, a hairdresser,a pharmacy,a chateau.museum and an inexpensive bus service to the city of Tours, makes us wonder what more the village could offer.
