This was our second year at La Belle Etoile and it was as wonderful as we remembered.
The house is set at the edge of a small village surrounded by farmland and vineyards therefore is very quiet - if two cars go past on the road below within five minutes of each other we shout - rush hour!.
The house itself is beautifully restored with brand new kitchen and bathrooms with every mod con you could possibly want. Bruno and Ritva provide all the equipment you could need in the kitchen - even an oyster shucking knife!
It is ideally located for visiting the many places of interest in the area and Bruno provides extensive information at the house of good places to visit, restaurant recommendations etc.
Bruno and Ritva are incredibly helpful and welcoming and you can ask them for advice etc at any time during your visit.
The large terrace is a beautiful place to just sit and watch the world go by very quietly and slowly and to also watch the wildlife. This year we loved watching the sparrowhawks fledge and Mum teaching the babies how to hover and hunt, in addition there were goldfinches, wrens, a sparrow nesting in the eaves, watching the red squirrels playing on the grass by the woodland, badgers and deer in the wood.
I recommend visiting Sylvain Champingy at Domaine Lallay - his Rose is exceptional and he is only 5 minutes away. Our favourite restaurant in Chinon is L'Ardoise on Rue de Rabelaise, we also ate at Auberge de L'Ille in L'ille Bouchard - fabulous and good value.

Couldn't fault it - a wonderful property in a very quite location.

The owner was really welcoming and made sure there was nothing we lacked.

Would certainly recommend for a couple or a family group.

What a beautiful place to have a holiday! An amazing house in a stunning location - it's exactly what you see in your mind's eye when you think of France. The house is very spacious, certainly for our family of 4 adults, and equipped to a very high standard - we really enjoyed the football table, too. Of course the best part is the huge terrace with glorious views across the valley. We spent most of our time and all of our meals there, glass in hand listening to the birds, enjoying the warmth and luxury of this truly lovely place. There is so much to see and do in this area, but you could easily relax here too. Don't hesitate - if it's available, book it!

Our first stay at La Belle Etoile was thoroughly enjoyable.

Bruno is excellent, a friendly and informative owner. He has provided accommodation of a very high standard. The gite is roomy, cool and comfortable. There is UK television to watch for rare wet evenings and wifi to keep in touch with friends and family, let them know what a wonderful time you are having and how unlucky they are not to be there.

The village is well placed to visit most of the famous chateaux of the Loire and some of our favourite places including Chinon, Richelieu, the zoo at Doue and wine co-operative of St Cyr en Bourg which has an underground car tour ending in wine tasting.

The local red squirrels are fascinating to watch as they somersault around the walnut tree and the local ginger cat calls in the evening to beg a morsel or two.

My advice is to book before it becomes as popular as it deserves to be and places become limited.

A lovely place for a holiday.
