Whether you are travelling as a couple, small or large family or as a group of friends, La Barauderie offers luxury holiday homes in the Loire valley within our seven-acre exclusive, private and authentic domaine. Set in rolling countryside La Barauderie offers beautiful accommodation, space to explore and relax and so much more.

La Barauderie is an ancient hamlet built over 2 water sources dating to before the earliest records in France. As well as beautiful holiday homes, the hamlet retains all the character from these origins including the rudimentary mill, pigonnier, bread oven, wine press and terrain. Better still, all these features are yours to visit, explore and enjoy providing unique spaces and framing spectacular views wherever you are in the domaine.

The domaine’s buildings are centred on 2 enclosed landscaped courtyards overlooking our valley and the regional forest beyond us, offering privacy for grown-ups and a contained space for little ones to run about and play. We have 2 sumptuously furnished properties, one able to accommodate up to 8 people and the second 6 people in absolute luxury with en suite rooms throughout.

Within the courtyards, La Barauderie has a large heated salt water swimming pool with wooden sun loungers and a spacious outside dining terrace with lovely views across the valley where the sun sets in the evening.

Beyond the courtyards, you can enjoy the extensive grounds of La Barauderie’s domaine. The large garden leads down to a small lake with a rowing boat for the adventurous. Past the lake, you can explore our orchards and meadow and the stream that runs alongside them. Separately, you can also enjoy our potager, the wooded chicken enclosure, the herb garden and a variety of other outdoor spaces with sun and shade for all. For little ones (and the young at heart) there is a play area with swings, a slide and a trampoline.

Throughout the courtyards and gardens there are a variety of seating and relaxation areas that means that whether you are looking for space to enjoy with friends and family or some quiet contemplation there is more than enough room for everyone.

We are situated in the natural park of Anjou-Touraine along with some of the best vineyards in France, surrounded by the famous Chateaux of the Loire and the homes of kings, philosophers and writers. La Barauderie is close to everything the wonderful Loire valley has to offer yet provides an exclusive and private escape a world away from the bustle and crowds.

La Barauderie's space would be wasted on adults and we aim to give your little ones the same level of experience as our full sized guests. Aside the pool and the space to run around there is a games room with table tennis and table football, a trampoline and access to bikes to enjoy and explore the landscape around us.

The Owner Recommends

Richelieu

This beautiful small town is 15 minutes away, one of the first ever planned towns, designed by its famous cardinal whose château was next door. Now gone apart from a single corner tower, its park remains a beautiful place to visit. There is a very atmospheric market every Friday and a music festival during August.

Chateaux de la Loire

The famous ones open to the public fall into the categories of ancient fortresses (Chinon, Loches, Grand Pressigny) and grand renaissance houses (Villandry, Amboise, Langeais, Azay le Rideau). The closest to us is Chateau du Riveau (excellent for children).
Surprisingly, there are a lots of smaller châteaux in private hands. You will see them from the road as you tootle along the lanes. Some of them have open days.

Chinon

This is a stunning small town dominated by its ancient castle. It was the favourite of Henry 2nd of England and is where he (and later his son Richard the Lionheart) died. It is where Joan of Arc was first introduced to the French King before her battle against the English at Orléans. It has a summer medieval festival, boating on the river and good food.

Zoo Parc Beauval

Houses the only giant pandas in France. Very committed to the protection of endangered species and classed among the 10 most beautiful zoos in the world.

Futuroscope

Just near Poitiers airport this is a kind of high-tech Disneyland. We advise to buy tickets on the internet and give yourself a full day by starting early to get good value for money

Troglodite dwellings

Some of these caves were used in the Stone Age, some are still lived in today. "La Goupilliere" is a good place to visit a troglodyte farm that was still used into the 1950's and now a museum. Great for kids.

Vin de Touraine and wines of the Loire Valley

Touraine, our local wine making region boasts a dozen AOC wines:

Red wines: Chinon, Bourgueil, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Touraine-Chenonceaux, Touraine-Amboise…
White wines: Vouvray, Montlouis-sur-Loire, Touraine Sauvignon…
Rosé wines : Touraine Noble Joué, Touraine Azay-le-Rideau...

Sparkling or still, dry, semi-dry or sweet, tannic or more fruity, Touraine wines will delight you with their wide variety. These generous and authentic wines are the perfect complement to your meals: their personalities can be easily paired with your dishes. You won't be disappointed by Loire Valley wine tasting, both beginners and connoisseurs will appreciate the generous flavours of these wines.

Markets

The Garden of France, the Loire valley, has an abundance of markets. Near to us include the lively Sunday market in Descartes, local markets in Richelieu and Saint Maure de Touraine on a Friday and the market in Loches on a Wednesday and Sunday
