About this property

Gite in a Peaceful Location Close to Swiss Normandy. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Eco-Gites of Lenault is a spacious gite in the picturesque region of Swiss Normandy. It comfortably sleeps 5 plus a baby in a cot. It has a large open plan downstairs area on 2 levels. A well-equipped kitchen enables you to prepare all your meals and you can either eat inside at the dining room table or outside in your own garden. Large comfy sofas are ideal for relaxing on and when the weather is a bit cooler the woodburner will keep you toasty warm.

On the first floor you will find the master bedroom and the twin bedroom as well as the bathroom with large shower. The third bedroom with single bed is on the second floor mezzanine. This room also doubles up as a playroom. Please note we do not recommend children under 5 sleep on the mezzanine as there is no door and it leads straight onto the staircase. There is a stair gate.

Situated just outside the village of Lenault, the gite is 300m away from the nearest already exceptionally quiet road making it a safe environment for young children. There is a large play area with swings, slide, a sand pit, play tower and outdoor toys as well as a barn for shade and shelter. A hard-standing area is suitable for bikes and for playing boules/mollky (we supply both). Children (and adults) have the chance to get to know our farm animals and collect the eggs.

We make a great base for those who wish to explore this beautiful part of Normandy. You will find trips to Caen, Mont St Michel, Honfleur, Bayeux, Deauville, the D-day landing beaches, Swiss Normandy are easily achieved from the gite. There are markets nearby every day as well as museums, art galleries, castles, stately homes plus plenty of festivals and local events. If you have anything in particular that interests you about Normandy feel free to ask any questions and we will do our best to help you.
For visitors wanting outdoor and thrill-seeking activities, a footpath starts right from our back gate and miles of footpaths snake through the delightful Normandy countryside. We are just a short drive from the centre of Swiss Normandy famous for outdoor activities such as kayaking, climbing, paragliding, walking and off-road cycling. You can even have a go at bungee jumping, giant zip wires and cliff-side walks if you are really brave! For the slightly less brave 2 summer dry toboggan runs are great fun. You'll also find 2 riding stables close-by and you can hire bikes at Clécy.

We can accept up to 2 well behaved dogs and a small fee applies. Please contact us before making a booking to confirm the cost and our rules with regard to canine visitors. We can recommend a local vet for your return vet visit and can make the appointment for you if you prefer.

For foodies, Normandy is a veritable feast for your taste buds. Come and sample some delicious Normandy cuisine - seafood, Camembert, tarte Normande, cider, Calvados and tripe! OK, maybe give the tripe a miss! If our chickens are laying and the vegetable patch is doing well you can buy eggs and fresh produce from us.

Eco-Gites of Lenault welcomes visitors all year round. Being highly insulated it stays cool in summer and lovely and warm even in cold weather thus making it a cosy winter retreat. Since 2010 we have welcomed guests from all over the world to our quiet corner of Normandy. Many of our guests have returned, some more than once!

Please note that on high season we generally only accept bookings from Sat-Sat but are totally felxible at other times, dependent on availability. Please do contact us if you wish for a stay other than 7 or 14 nights and we can quote you a price. We look forward to hearing from you and will do our best to answer any questions you have about either the gite or the local area. A bientôt.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Rosie Hill

I am Rosie and together with my husband, Simon and our 2 boys we moved to beautiful Normandy in 2007. Our aim was to open an environmentally friendly gite and live a more simple life in the countryside.

Year property purchased 2007
Why this location? We chose Normandy both for its beauty (it really is stunning in all seasons), the amount of things there are to do and see here and its proximity to the entry ports of Caen and Cherbourg. Guests visiting from the UK by ferry would not have a long onward journey and would never to stuck for things to do locally.
Unique benefits of property We are very family friendly with a large play area and equipment for our younger guests. We also make a wonderfully quiet getaway for adults and everyone comments on how peaceful it is at Eco-Gites of Lenault ... but equally we are not far from so many things to see and do that many of our guests return more than once just to get everything done!

The Owner Recommends

The impressive medieval town of Bayeux with that famous tapestry is just 45 minutes away and should not be missed.

This part of Normandy boasts a beautiful coastline with wide sandy beaches and calm seas. Life guards patrol the most popular beaches in high season. Dogs are allowed on a few beaches all year round and on all beaches in low season (although you will need to check specific dates for any given beach). These are the famous D-day landing beaches of World War II, and together with the beaches the region has a large number of war cemeteries and museums.

Chateaux and Heritage

This part of Normandy offers wonderful opportunities to visit historical sites from a derelict abbey in the next village to the splendid Mont St Michel. There are castles galore with the beautiful Châteaux of Pontécoulant, Caen and Falaise, which are firm favourites with previous guests.

Normandy has a wonderful cuisine centred around cheese, seafood, cider and apples. As a result you are spoilt for choice when looking for local restaurants with something to suit every pocket and every taste. We are happy to make a dining reservation for you by telephone if you wish.

For Kids (young and old)

Normandy caters brilliantly for it's younger (and not so young!) visitors - within easy driving distance of the gite there are zoos, open farms, soft play areas, tree top walks, theme parks and a miniature railway, as well as all the castles, beaches and swimming pools, etc, etc!

For Thrill Seekers

If you really want to get your adrenalin pumping how about a trip to Clécy (the capital of Swiss Normandy) and have a go at the Via Ferrata Cliff side walk, rock climbing, luge, canoeing or paragliding? At the Viaduct de Souleuvre you can bungy jump or swing on some of Europe's largest swings as as well as descend the 1.6km dry toboggan slope.

Markets, Brocantes and Boot Fairs

There are daily local markets in one town or other within easy driving distance of the gite on every day of the week. There are also many brocantes and throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn, boot fairs are a very popular fixture locally.

Walking, Swimming, Cycling and Horse Riding

For active types there is an extensive network of local footpaths starting with GR221 which passes our back gate. You can also cycle on these paths or for something a bit different have a go at the local Vélorails where you cycle on specially adapted cycle carts along old railway lines. All the local towns have wonderful swimming pools with adult and children's pools, slides and bubble areas. If you want to have a go at horse riding there are 2 very local stables and several on the coast giving you the chance to gallop through the waves!

A really super Gite - extremely well equipped and comfortable. Our visit to Normandy this time was to visit the D-day beach sites and after each very intensive day it was great to return to the gite for a relaxing evening in the peace of the countryside. The gite is centrally placed for easy access to all the D-day beach sites and also to the sites to the south in the Falaise gap. Simon and Rosie were excellent, helpful hosts. It was fun to see all the animals and when my kids were younger they would have loved seeing them and using the various play activities. I would recommend the gite to anyone.

The eco-gîte was an absolutely perfect getaway for us, our demanding toddler and 6 month old baby. We had spent literally weeks looking for a spot that satisfied our rigorous checklist of being child-friendly, back-to-nature and in a beautiful part of France and the eco-gîte surpassed all of our hopes. The owners were wonderful, very friendly, warm, knowledgeable and above all, very accommodating to our toddler’s wishes to feed the chickens, ducks, turkeys and pigs. They are a delightful family. The gîte itself is eminently well-equipped, very comfortable and the children’s play area and play barn occupied the toddler on a daily basis. It was also an excellent base to explore the beautiful Suisse Normande on its doorstep (boating on the river at Clécy is a must) and a selection of attractions within an hour’s drive (Festyland, Bayeux, Colline aux oiseaux). We’d happily recommend this gîte to other young families.
