22 - 23, 29 - 30 June, 6 - 7, 13, 20 - 21, 27 - 28 July 2018
This sound and light show was performed for the first time on the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Verdun in 1996. Des Flammes a la Lumiere puts on a performance every summer and tells the story of 3 young men, one French, one German and one Belgian who tell the memories of their ancestors to each other. Through their stories we can rediscover the Battle of Verdun and what life was like behind the battlefront from the beginning of the war to its end. The show is extremely impressive, with more than 250 actors and the sounds and lights of the battle, the bombings and life on the frontline are reproduced as realistically as possible.
Over the last 20 years, this show has become a major event and welcomes over 20,000 spectators every year.
First weekend of July (6 - 8 July 2018)
In Bar-le-Duc, the first weekend of July has become a time for culture and festivities. Over this weekend the streets of the town are invaded by a crowd of musicians, comedians and circus entertainers. Between traditions and modern performances, The RenaissanceS Festival enables artists and their audiences to meet and enjoy a lovely weekend in the city of Bar-Le-Duc.
Due to its proximity to Germany and Belgium, Meuse traditionally celebrates St Nicholas on 6th December. Traditionally on this day, St Nicholas visits and rewards all of the children who have been well-behaved over the year and offers them presents of sweets. This tradition is linked to the Christmas Markets that take place all over December and welcome choirs, sweet shops and crafters to many public places in various towns and cities throughout Meuse. These Christmas Markets are a reflection of Meuse's culture and enable visitors to discover many different foods and traditions through the little shops and activities on display there.
