Since its creation in 1991, the Lyon Biennial has worked as a 'trilogy'. As the artistic director gives a word to the curators participating, this word will decide the theme of the event for the three coming years. 2015 was the beginning of a new trilogy, with the keyword 'Modern'.
Alternating every year between a contemporary arts event on odd years, and a dance event on even years, the 2017 edition will offer a reflexion through arts on what 'modern' means, on what has become 'normal', and a re-examination on one's relationship with oneself, others, and our ever-changing world.

Happening once every two years, the Saint-Etienne International Design Biennial is unique in its kind, and one of the first such events in France. For a month, the event aims to make people question their day-to-day life, how they talk, work, move around or relax.
