The Museum of Pastel (Woad) tells the fascinating history of the plant which produced such a sought after blue dye for cloth. The triangle between Toulouse, Albi and Carcassonne where it grew brought vast wealth to great families in those cities in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. 40,000 to 60,000 tonnes were exported each year throughout Europe. The region was known as the Pays de Cocagne (land of plenty) which it was, until the dye was replaced by indigo. Tel: (00 33) 5 63 70 63 82.

21st festival this year. Attracts around 60,000 visitors each year with their packaged programmes. Everything from jazz to rock is featured at this festival, plus theatre so there's something to suit everyone's musical tastes. Events for children will also be happening this year at the festival.
