Night of Little Saint John, Valreas

23 June 2017

Since the year 1504, every year on the same day Valreas celebrates the little Saint John as the night begins to fall. The city centre is full of medieval history, from Notre Dame church to Chateau de Simiane. Costumed medieval drummers, sword bearers and commandants all parade behind the little Saint John dressed in sheep skin, holding his banner and a cross. This ceremony is dear to the hearts of the people in Valreas and is full of history.

Annual Veraison Wine Festival, Chateauneuf-du-Pape

‘Veraison’ is the point in growing where the grapes mature and change colour. Medieval festival with jousting, juggling, sword fights and carnival presided over by costumed medieval Pope.

Soup Festival, Vaison-la-Romaine

Mid October - mid November 2017

Annual 3 week soup festival, where 19 participating villages elect winners to have their entries judged at the Journees Gourmandes by the Venerable Brotherhood of Soup Ladlers. Plenty of soup on offer at the village halls. More details at Vaison Tourist Office.
