The gentle, pretty countryside of the Loire Valley makes this a popular walkers' region with its fabulous chateaux, forests and lakes amongst its many attractions. The Loire Valley has thousands of kilometres of hiking or walking trails to help you discover its heritage and landscapes. What could be nicer on a summer's day than walking the Forest of the Chateau de Chambord (perhaps along the GR31) or alongside the Loire River? (The GR3 starts at La Baule on the Western Loire coast and then tracks east to the Loire's source.) Another hiking idea is to try some of the GR35 which passes through pretty Vendome and west to Montoire-sur-Loir. This part of the Loire Valley is particularly rich in troglodyte heritage so you may well see caves and cave dwellings en route.
