Provence/Cotes d'Azur has 3 main appellation controlee regions covering a large wine-growing area from Marseille to Nice. Although growing conditions differ, they all benefit from one constant - the sun! The Cotes de Provence regions produce half of all the rose wine produced in France - it accounts for 80% of the region's production. Rose makes for a perfect summer aperitif and just gives a real flavour of the Mediterranean. Bandol wine is one of the oldest and dates back to Roman times; this appellation nestles between Toulon and La Cotat and utilises the Mourvedre grape to produce a strong red wine with body and spice. For something rather special, look no further than the Bellet appellation which produces limited high quality original red, white and rose wines. These wines are rarely found outside Nice.
